Weight Requirements
Thanks for the info Just Cause! I looked up the reg's on the GoArmy website and that's what i was told at MEPS a few months ago.. "You're gonna have to do some intense donut-dunkin' exercises kid.. you're not gonna make weight if you stay as you are" said the doc. I'll keep at it.. maybe i'll add a few extra oreo's to my workout

Weight Requirements
i have a question on the (down?) side of this topic.. i'm wondering how strict they are on the weight minimum requirements. I'm 5'6" and have been trying my darndest to make the 120 lbs that they say in the website but i can't seem to get above 115-117. It seems between all the pt i'm doing to get ready for OBLC and working nights, i'm losing more weight then i'm gaining.

Parents.....URRGGHHH
I'm glad things are starting to smooth out for you.. I had the way kinda paved for me since my bro's already in but i can feel your frustration and sympathize. Just let her knowo you're going to OBLC AND Bragg already knowing someone :) hehe. Have you thought about having her talk to your recruiter or someone to get her questions/concerns answered? No matter what age we are, moms will be moms and feel the need to protect us to the best of their ability. We're lucky they care so much.. Lemme know if i can help at all!

questions for army nurse?
did you speak with a general army recruiter or an AMEDD recruiter? That makes a huge difference in what you're told.. b/c the regular army wants you to go enlisted and go through all these hoops to be in the medical field but the AMEDD (army medical dept) recruiters ONLY deal with the medical side of things and know exactly what would be best for you. I figured this out after 3-4 weeks of dealing with the regular army while going to school.. tried telling me that i should go to school full time, be in the reserves, and join as a medic... not even close to what was the BEST choice! that said, talk to an amedd recruiter :)

I answered some for her earlier in this post if you wanna look back over it but if there's anything you're wondering, i'm def willing to offer any knowledge that i do have! :):)

oblc and army residency program: advice please
haha well then i guess my recruiter and major hairston were wrong! Raki'1985 is going in July also... that's all I know of so far. Sorry, from your post it sounded like you were just starting your process. Have you received word then where you'll be going? I had BAMC as my first choice and Major Hairston told me that it was full so i got my second choice (Bragg).

Just received assignment....
yup they ask you for your "top 3 choices". The options are as follows, and are obviously subject to the needs of the army and your wife's experience. All novice nurses (Less than 6 months experience) will have the opportunity to be enrolled in Medical Surgical Nursing Program. This program is offered at the following locations: 1. Fort Hood, TX (DAMC) 2. Fort Sam Houston, TX (BAMC) 3. Fort Bliss, TX (WBAMC) 4. Fort Gordon, GA (DDEAMC) 5. Fort Bragg, NC (WAMC) 6. Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC) 7. Fort Lewis, WA (MAMC) 8. Hawaii (TAMC) 9. Germany (LRMC) 10. Fort Benning, GA If she is a nurse with over 6 months of experience, she may be needed at one of the smaller MEDDACS. Nurses with over six months of nursing experience should look at assignments at the following locations: 1. Fort Sill, Oklahoma 2. Fort Polk, LA 3. Fort Irwin, CA 4. Fort Leonardwood, MO 5. Fort Riley, Kansas 7. Fort Campbell, Kentucky 8. Korea 9. Germany 10. Fort Knox, Kentucky 11. Fort Wainwright, Alaska 12. Fort Carson, CO 13. Fort Benning, GA 14. Fort Belvoir, VA 15. Fort Stewart, GA 16. Fort Jackson, SC Hope that helps! That's directly from the email that I received a few weeks ago, so it should be pretty reliable! :)

- oblc and army residency program: advice please
Hey! SOrry it took me so long to respond- I'm taking my NCLEX tomorrow :grn:and have been studying my butt off and haven't been on here! I found out 'unofficially' the day i posted that message but got an email from Maj Hairston yesterday stating that I am going in july and will be stationed at Ft Bragg. I'm pretty sure you won't be in the July group simply b/c they made a special class in july just for all of us that got boarded in Dec so that we can get through.. so the entire july oblc group is our dec class. I understand your desire to just get started once you're done with school but things will take more time that you'd like. You'll graduate but you have to take your boards first then once you get that done then they can really process you through b/c everything is one at a time with them (can't get orders til you pass boards, can't get funding til you get orders, can't go to OBLC til you get funding.. etc) You should expect for it to take at least 4-6 months after graduation to be sent. frustrating, i know... lemme know if I can be of any more assistance!- Just received assignment....
Raki- I'm going to the July OBLC and am stationed at Ft Bragg too :) I"m pretty excited about it b/c my brother's stationed there and i'm pretty familiar with the area since i've been to visit him a gazillion times! Bragg was my 2nd choice- i chose BAMC first but Maj Hairston told me the same thing as you for Walter Reed- no openings. You were right about getting the acu's ahead of time but waiting for our dress blues at Fort Sam unless you can get them super cheap. We don't get our ID's til we get there. I'm not sure about the loan, but Fayetteville isn't the 'country' lol (well maybe to you since you're an NYC-er:) ). Downtown is pretty ghetto and closer to post is just realtively commericialized with a TON of apartments, restaurants, pawnshops, and the mall on Skibo Rd. Having a car there is pretty necessary- I don't really remember ever seeing a bus. I'm from PA and am driving my car down to NC but not taking it to Texas, obviously. If you have any questions about the area, i'm pretty familiar with it, so feel free to ask! I have a feeling we'll be seeing a lot of each other lol :) - oblc and army residency program: advice please
