AORN Periop 101
I am currently doing periop 101 through my internship, i am a recent grad and this is my first job so all the interns are having to do this class. Luckily, we don't have to pay because it costs a lot! All of periop is online, you read through a section of power points on a certain OR topic and then you take a quiz on it after you are done. It is a lot of information but it is helpful, I wouldn't buy the program if you are not in nursing school yet. See if you can shadow an OR nurse for a few days, that is the best way to see if you like the OR if you have not done that yet

Could I survive in the OR?
@usnwbama which job did you end up taking?

Help need support Failed NCLEX 265q 1st attempt
Don't get down on yourself, negative thoughts just keep your hopes down. Positive thinking is more important than you may think, so try to look at all the things you have accomplished that were difficult or challenging. You passed nursing school, that is huge! Anyways, I took NCLEX this june, and i graduated at the beginning of may. I think 6 weeks is a good time for studying. I did kaplan and it helped me a lot. I went to the classroom for a week and learned some tips from a kaplan teacher and you do a lot of practice questions which helps a lot. I did 90% of the qbank which i thought was really helpful. I think the more questions you do the better. My kaplan teacher had as take a sheet of paper and write down anything we discussed that we needed to brush up on. She said take one day a week and go over all the content you don't know. The other days you mainly just do practice questions. Maybe look over the drug groups and be familiar with main side affects and contraindications. Know the different endings of the drug names too incase you see a drug you have never heard of you may be able to guess based on the ending. Pray about it and relax. You got this!

Commuting, is it worth the drive?
Thanks everyone, I guess it was a no-brainer! What is interesting is i looked at some other nonnursing websites that discussed the long hour commute and a lot of them were against it because of gas costs and traffic.

Commuting, is it worth the drive?
Hello fellow nurses, I graduated in May and moved out of state to a new area. I have been struggling to get a job where I am now located but I may have an opportunity in a med-surg unit at a hospital which is great! The only problem is the hospital is an hour and 15 min away. Is it worth the drive working 3, 12 hour shifts a week? This hospital is connected to another hospital that is 5 min from my house so I am thinking eventually I could transfer. I have commuted 40 minutes to a past job and didn't mind it but this is far and working 12 hr shifts!! What do you guys think? Thanks!

nclex failed, 265 questions..
You will get it, did you use Kaplan? If not I highly recommend it. I took it and many of the questions were similar and I thinked it helped me gain confidence :)

You got it! I took it earlier this summer and passed, definately prayed a lot! Take breaks when you need them, I think that helped me to stay calm.

UTSouthwestern internship in Dallas
They are usually paid. Their aim is to train you the way they want so they can hire you on so the chances are pretty good of getting hired after the internship. Good luck with everything, I applied for an internship there too on a surgical floor recently but haven't heard much except the recruiter wanted me to submit my transcript.
