We give Cytotec 50mcg PO every 4 hours starting at about 2100. We must have a positive NST prior, monitor for 1 hour continuously after, then monitor for 15 minutes of every hour. We start a saline lock also. Then do a pit induction in the am. I r...
In the facility I work at we are encouraged to come to the side of any nurse who is being verbally abused by any doctor. The abuse tends to lose steam when the MD sees we are all supportive. We also have an immediate chain of command with administr...
We use 18's here. Will use a 20 if the pt's veins aren't so great. If they end up needing surgery with the possibility of blood products anesthesia can start a new site.!
I'm a night shift person by choice. I find the "quieter" nights are easier on me physically. Right now I work the "baylor" hours 2/12's on Sat/Sun. My room is darkened, the ringer on the phone is down, I have a beeper for emergencies, and the hosp...

Hi Joybelle, Good luck with your boards. There are also some great completion programs in this area. Check out Lakeland college and the NWTC locations. There is also a hospital in Oconto Falls, about 1/2 hour from GB and Shawano, and a hospital in...
I work in a small hospital about 25 miles from Crivitz, and have been here for 27 years. We're renovating so things are looking great. We are always looking for staff. The wages are comparable to the larger hospitals in Green Bay. Check out our W...
I went to a two year RN program and thought it was the way to go. We were able to get the sciences and other general ED classes done before the nursing classes. For those that want to pursue their BSN, it can be done after. There are also LPN to R...
We don't do baths until baby is at least 3 hours old with a stable temp. We also do it at the bedside in the warmer and encourage Mom/Dad participation.
I do 12 hour, 7p-7a, Sat/Sun. When I get off Monday AM I sleep about 4-5 hours, then keep a late night schedule and sleep 'til noon. I'm frequently on call so I am able to go in late nights if needed. I don't answer the phone when I sleep during t...
We are a small hospital and are almost done with our OB renovation. We have placed whirlpool bathtubs in every suite and our patients are loving them, both antepartum and postpartum. They are sanitized by houskeeping post discharge.
I know the thrill of a precipitous delivery. I've certainly had my share and haven't lost one yet! Rarely are there any complications with a full-term OB that delivers quickly. The Doc that misses their delivery usually treats us all to pizza, LOL!...
Might be a good idea to look into a nursing program where you are an LPN after the first year and bridge over to RN the second year (ADN). Might be a waiting list but you can get some of the classes out of the way.

Wow! Can't believe the fundal pressure thing. The only time we ever used to used it was for shoulder dystocia (in the dark ages), and that isn't the accepted technique anymore. Maybe he needs to new info!!!!!!!!!!
If you are looking for L&D and working with newborns, a small hospital is the route to go. I work in a facility where we do it all, Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Post-partum. Because we are small we don't always have patients but then we float...
Do you have a SANE program in Ontario, You might start by contacting a local hospital that does and they should be able to talk with your staff or find resources for you. It's great that you have concerns and are willing to get any info you can find...
I work in an OB unit also and we do have scrubs that match our decor. We all had a hand in picking them out and they are provided and washed by our facility.
I work on a Med/Surg floor. We have 4 siderails on the beds now. In our state if you keep all 4 rails up it is considered a form of restraint and you have to document the reason. We don't use the floor pads but all of the local nursing homes do. ...
Rose, short for Rozanne. and last intial. Not very original. Should have been Menagerie. I have a ceramic shop called The Rose Menagerie. We live on a farm and actually have quite a menagerie.
