Bad Nursing?
Scenario 1 : An EMT points out to the RN , that the patient is bleeding from the mouth. The patient is in a hemodialysis center. The RN states" This is just a dialysis center, I'm not trying to save the world". Note: in dialysis, heparin is typically given to clients to prevent blood clotting. Same situation 25 minutes apart. A lady finishes hemo dialysis and there blood pressure ending the treatment is 226/ 82. The nurse states " your blood pressure is a little high" , turns around and indicates to the EMT" I could give them something for it but it's probably not going to work"... They should be good to go" Comment: I'm losing my sight in nursing, I thought we were suppose to be proactive and at the same time an advocate for our patients. The above scenarios are real... Am I being offered a fair pay?
Hola I live in Corpus Christi and the prices vary, but that is definitely low pay / you should try to negotiate it. In Corpus Christi, the lowest an RN makes would be $20.00 hr but the highest I have seen was $35.00 hr. My friend who graduated, managed to get a job in ER with no previous experience and is getting $35.00 an hr / no benefits. I would have thought the Austin area would pay more but in Texas, too many graduates are saturating the area particularly in Houston & San Antonio. Overall, low pay considering experience + area +specialty.

What specialty are you considering?
Varies Right now I'm working on my BsN but in Maryland, there is a program that you can take MS wise. If you take that program, it is a hybrid of Acute care nurse practitioner / Critical care clinical nurse specialist. Once taken, you are allowed to sit to take the exams whether NP or CNS wise.

Is taking 3 science classes insane?
Taking three science classes is complicated. I hope you do no have any obligations because it will be even worst. I took two sciences at once with other courses during my pre nursing days and I was always on the run because exams were back to back and conflicted with my work schedule. It may be possible to accomplish this, but do not procrastinate because by the time you know it , you will never be able to catch up. Labs are attached with each of those science classes you are going to take. So eek :0.

Forced to stay and work under mandatory evacuation?
It is completely legal . You signed up for this once you became a RN. You cannot refuse and leave as this is considered "abandoning" a patient. Abandoning in my state / Texas puts you up for license revocation. We as nurses took an oath. On second thought, you are not required to stay but some hospitals will try and get you under the abandonment clause.

What is the point of becoming a nurse?!
You have to dig deeper in order to find a Nursing position, if you did it for the money then you are not going to last long. The Job market has been saturated with new grads in Houston and San Antonio , Texas. In San Antonio, I hear they are going to to lay off anywhere between 200- 700 nurses. Dig deeper and make yourself marketable.

A "dating female students in your class" post
Everyone in my class back stabs each other, one of the bad cohorts. If it was from another cohort of nursing students gladly :) in my group, definite no, it adds extra stress or as the ladies put it " Drama".

How long is your commute to nursing school?
Not to far

NursingCAS , GPA & Transcripts
From my experience--> NursingCAS uses the transcripts you send them to verify GPA and actual courses taken, usually takes a week or two for them to calculate GPA. You should err on the side of caution and send an extra transcript to the programs / universities you plan to apply toward. Nursing CAS I believe breaks down your GPA, one for sciences, and one overall. The nursing school you applied to does not receive that information electronically per say, they have a username and password which allows them to access applications off of Nursing CAS. You have to pay the Nursing CAS fee that is required and ensure that they have your transcripts, because it will take time to process GPA calculations. Pardon my quick typing :l , I used NursingCAS back for Fall of 2011.

Medication Range Doses-What if Patient Wants Less?
You cannot adjust the dose because that medication is ordered by a physician. We as nurse are not allowed to change doses in that manner. If a patient wants a lower dose, consult physician and act as the patient advocate... Ie maybe the client wanted a lower dose because of side effects. Even though your facility does not have or care for dosage adjustment, go with the more stringent choice, contacting physician. At the end of the day always try and err on the side of caution otherwise, your license is up for grabs.

Any males out there tired of the drama?
Yes. It sucks when I get drawn in the cross fire especially in my nursing program, everyone is out to get one another and it's hard to be neutral. I ll try to avoid it but the same thing is going to happen again and again, bad cohort. :I

Accepted! Now what?
1. Ask questions 2. Don't procrastinate 3. Make friends 4. Form study groups 5. Read content before your next lecture 6. Take notes during lectures 7. Attend tutoring sessions if needed 8. At least study more than 1week before an exam 9. If a peer needs help, help them out. -------------------------------------------------------- Best of luck
-
Is this too much?
It can be accomplished, just use your time wisely. With those courses do not procrastinate, it is a lot of material especially since the semester is cut in half.

nurse fired
The U.S. would not stand for this violation as it clearly invades privacy / HIPPA. The information was not used as a need to basis but because of the fact she knew them. It was right to terminate her as an employee because she on the hospitals side could cost the hundreds and even thousands of dollars.
