Suspended and need advice
Hi all, I'm not sure if this is the right place to start this topic but I really need some advice. I just started working as a STNA at a nursing home over two months ago. I come in do my job and take care of my residents. I have gotten compliments from the Nurses stating that I am one of the better STNAs that they have at the facility. One told me that I do my work the right way and it seems that I have been doing it for years. Well I worked last night and while it was busy because we were down a staff member I did my job as I normally do. The only thing really eventful that took place was I had to lower a resident to the floor and get help from my nurse because her legs got weak while transfering her to the toilet. She DIDNT fall I lowered her to a safe position and got help. The nurse didnt say anything to me except "well **** happens just now we know to do her as a two person next time." After that it was dropped nothing more was said. We got her in bed cleaned up and went about my night as normal. I got a call this morning around 11am from the DON stating that I was suspended per investigation. When I asked what for I was told that we couldnt discuss that on the phone and for me to come in tomorrow at 11 am to have a talk with her. So right now I am fustrated because I have no idea what I did wrong. I am afraid that I am going to get fired and not knowing why is really getting to me. I really need this job badly and cant afford to lose it. The only thing that I can think of was the insident with transfering the resident to the toilet. I cant see why they would suspend me for that if thats the reason. But, besides that one insident I have no other incidents at work or any reason why they would suspend me per investigation. Just wondering if anyone had advice or if I could get someone elses opinion on this. I really have no idea what I did. Thank You

Is it possible for a CNA to both work and go to school full time?
A lot of people do not recommend working full time and attending Nursing School Full time. You figure while you are in Nursing school you have your classes, rotations and if your school requires you to do volunteer work then you have that too. Between that you have to figure in study time between work and school. I am not by no means saying it is impossible. I have known people personally who have worked full time and went to school full time. I myself am doing it. It is NOT easy by no means. But you have to put nursing school first before your job.

Interview Advice
Okay so I am kind of nervous. I had a interview with Mount Notre Dame Nursing Home in Cincinnati, Ohio about a week ago. The person doing the interview told me that after she did all of her interviews that she would call and let everyone know. Well, its been about a week and I havent heard anything. I was wondering if I should call her? Also, I have a interview tomorrow at Mongomery care center in Cinninati for a STNA position as well. I am nervous as all get out. I mean I really need this job or any job for that matter. Does anyone on here have any tips?

I need help, someone please relate!
Hi K. Fountain, I too am currently at Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor. i just finished up my summer classes there. But, because of the 2 year wait there is why I am leaving Michigan and going to Cincinnati for my RN program starting next month Aug 20, 2012. But if you are looking into a LPN program close to you check out: Nexcare Training Insitute in Westland, Mi on Joy Rd between Middlebelt and Inkster RD. This school is about a 30 min drive from Lakeshore Apartments in Ypsilanti, Mi where I live at currently. I went to Nexcare for my CNA and currently work there at the Nursing home as a CNA. Heard good things from this program. Its about 16K for the program plus addition 1500 for books and the pre req for the class is A and P 1 and 2 which they offer there now. You can also try Detroit Business Insitue LPN program down on Jefferson Ave in Detroit. Monroe community college has a LPN program I believe but dont qoute me on it I can be wrong. These are the only ones that I know of that is around the Ypsilanti/Ann Arbor area.

Nursing Program -becoming easier to get in?-
Yes programs in Michigan are still competitive as previous posters have stated. That is one of the reasons why I left Michigan and am going to Ohio for RN school. I was attending Washtnaw Community College in Ann Arbor, Mi they have a 2 year wait. Schoolcraft College has a 4-5 year wait with other colleges having a competitive admission process.
