Thank you for your honesty. I am a new grad putting in application after application without interviews. I was self-employed for 22 years, but I guess that doesn't mean **** in the health field. Being a good employee who is reliable and ready to learn is getting me pushed to the bottom of the HR File. This Thursday there is a job fair and I am going. I cannot wait forever to be hired as a nurse. Hence, this week and again on the 28th I will be looking for jobs that may not be a nursing job. IF there is a job where nursing may apply even a little bit that will be great, but I am not counting on it. Nursing will lose an intelligent, good hearted, hard working person if they do not give me a job soon. I am a single mom, and I need to work. I cannot wait!!

Interesting. However, one of these days coming soon there will an exodus of nurses retiring. They cannot work forever. With the process listed above, they have effectively tossed new nurses from the occupation b/c WE CAN'T WAIT FOREVER.

I don't. Grades DO matter in my opinion. It's a mark of your dedication to learning, and whether you are willing to do the work and forfeit immediate pleasure for the delayed gratification of 3.5 or above. B's are okay sometimes, our classes are difficult and life does get in the way sometimes, but C's are a sign of laziness in my book. Unless you are stretched so far that C's are the only thing you can muster. Stretched meaning, a job, a family, AND school...then I might understand the C; at least you are getting clinical experience along with the C. However, shouldn't clinical experience equate to good grades? More A's than B's...No C's...

OmGsh!! 300-400 applications!! You've got to be kidding?? What is wrong with this profession that they are forcing nurses (ADN or BSN) to work so hard to get a job when we have been told, "Nursing is one of the fastest growing professions." Moreover, there will be a nursing shortage at some point. A perfect storm is brewing. I am currently in a BSN program b/c i knew long before this turn of events I was going to need more education. However, I don't think a BSN is going to land me a job all by itself. I have applications in at the local psych hospitals and I am HOPING for an interview. 300-400!!! It is a pathetic statistic that the nursing world should be ashamed of;/

Nurses salaries should start out at $50K. I agree with fjellgren when he says, "magnitude of risks, and stress, involved in providing patient care regardless of the care setting." I am new to nursing at 50 getting my BSN. I have never seen people work so hard with so much stress all at once, and constantly throughout their day. $50,000 to start!!
