Delray is not a facility I recommend working at. At least not on a telemetry floor. The nurse to patient ratio sucks. Day shift gets 6 patients, nights get 8. 90% of the time you don't have enough aids on the floor, so your stuck doing everything yourself. Everyone in the higher up positions pretend to pity you and be supportive, but all they care about is making money. Scheduling days you want to work, never happens. Forget trying to have a decent social life. That hospital runs their employees to the grave. The only reason it receives so many awards is because the people who are stuck there, by a contract, fight every shift to cover their ass and protect their license.

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately my contract states I have to stay on my unit for a year before I can transfer somewhere else. Guess I have to bite the bullet until August. I have thought about transferring to the ER. A friend of mine works there and loves it. Also thought about pediatrics or maternity. I guess time will tell, just have to stay strong

I feel like I am forcing myself to work as an RN and I hate it. The ratio of taking care of 8 patients, the long hours, constant rushing and high stress is not cutting it. I thought nursing would be centered on the patient, but since ratios are so high in my county, its impossible and unsafe to take care of that many people at one time. So im stuck in a dilemma. Im getting to the point where I hate the person I am, cause im starting not to care about what I do as a nurse. If I get things done, I get it done. If not, oh well. My sensitivity for the patients has decreased and my anxiety increased. This job is demanding and I dont think its fair to my patients to have me as a nurse. So what can I do? If I terminate my contract, I owe the hospital 10 grand for breaking it. Im stuck. Someone please help me.

Oh wow. That blows. So are these new grads transferring? After speaking with Human Resource, this new grad program is the largest amount they ever had hired. Maybe its to alleviate this shortage of nurses?

I do as well, but I will be training until the end of November. More than I would receive with any other hospital. Usually, you get 6 weeks of floor training, then your on your own. With this grad program, it last 4 months. It consist of classroom training, plus floor training. I prefer the longer training.

A majority of my classmates work in different hospitals throughout Palm Beach County and are also around the same pay rate.

I got offered a position here for there new grad program (neuro/teley). My concern is many people say Delray sucks. It even got the nickname, "Hell-ray." Therefore, I need some input from people who actually work there. Please help.

I just got offered a position in their new grad program for neuro/teley. They want to start me off with $26.37 and a $3 shift differential. I keep hearing horrible things about Delray Medical Center. Is it still a bad place? They are rated one of the best hospitals in the country by Healthgrades, six years in a row

A month and a half. Some topics did not require the 2-3 days.

I studied 6 out of 7 days a week. I found that when I was reviewing the material, I retained more when I took my time with it. I would spend about 2-4 hours a day reviewing just 1 topic, ex: fluid and electrolytes over the course of 2-3 days. Reviewing it over and over again within those 2-3 days. Then I moved onto the next topic. In addition, practicing questions is a must. I was completing 70-100 a day and 2 weeks before my test date it was closer to 150-200 a day. The last 2 weeks before my exam, I reviewed the entire Hurst book again. By this time, I was able to read a topic a day and state it to myself. I retained it. Highly suggest picking ONE source to review for learning your core content (unless you don't understand something) and go crazy with using multiple sources for questions.
