Any CrossFit-ing nursing students out there?
I'm a fellow crossfitter (-: I live in georgia, & I've been crossfitting for almost a year.. I just started my second week of nursing school, my school schedule combined with being a mom is pretty demanding! Since I'm familiar with a lot of the movements I asked the trainers if I could come in and do the workouts on my own-- unless I needed help of course.. I love crossfit & really hope I can keep going while in school esp since I've never been in better shape!

Statistics
YouTube was my best friend in stats! As many have mentioned it is very time consuming, and takes practice.. I didn't take stats online, but I had a professor whose voice put me to sleep (it was bad!), so youtube and google and a TI-83 saved me and I made an A in the class.. Practice the formulas and putting them in your calculator and you'll be good!

Brenau Part-time Spring 2014
Hey shanna! I'm taking patho and Spanish 2 this semester. Patho is interesting for sure! It's cool because we are learning what happens when a&p goes wrong. It's a lot of information to take in, especially the signs & symptoms, but I think once I start clinicals that will help patho sink in by seeing the conditions. We do a case study every week and that really helps since it gives us practice in recognizing signs & symptoms and how to decide which diagnostic tests to proceed with. My patho instructor is really nice and he is pretty funny, so that helps!

Brenau Part-time Spring 2014
Hey ladies good luck with your applications!! When do you all find out about your acceptance? I'm currently in a patho class that has a lot of part-time nursing students in their 1st nursing semester, & so far I gather that patho is the toughest class the 1st nursing semester. (I decided to take patho early since its better for me to take tougher classes while my kids are in school).. Anyhow, good luck with your apps and I'm in the brenau full time program but maybe we'll be classmates sometime (-:

Thanks everyone! Yes I'm nervous! I'm taking patho right now and just looking through that book makes me wonder how ill be able to retain all the nursing info in 5 semesters... Does anyone happen to know the sequence of courses we take?.. I keep telling myself that thousands of people have survived nursing school before me, so I will too.. Hopefully ?

Brenau spring 2013 applicants
So here's my application status... I spoke to the secretary this morning and she said she had no record of my application! After a lot of searching at my house I couldn't find the copy I had, but the secretary called me back and let me know she found it! It apparently got lost in the shuffle, so it has yet to be reviewed:-( The director of the nursing program won't be back in until tomorrow, so hopefully she can review my application and let me know if I'm accepted or not, or if there is even any spots left..

Yes, I took the Kaplan at brenau. I have all my general ed requirements completed apart from Spanish 2 so I'm taking that and patho in the spring. Did you take patho at brenau?

Brenau spring 2013 applicants
I went to chattahoochee tech and Gwinnett tech before transferring to brenau. I just finished chem and Spanish 1 at brenau this fall.. I asked the nursing department if I could register for patho and they said yes, but told me it is part of the curriculum for the 1st semester of nursing.. I just chose to try and get it out of the way since summers are pretty busy for me.. Of course if I don't get in I'm going to drop the class.. Your gpa might be okay.. I'm not sure on the average stats if who they admit.. Be hopeful! We should know this week(-:

Kaplan Nursing entrance exam- 2nd time around!
I took the Kaplan about a month ago, & I felt that the actual Kaplan study guide wasn't very useful for the test.. I used a book put out by NLN and the math was almost exactly the same as the math on the test-- lots of ratios, proportions, & percentages.. I actually studied science the most, & ended doing the worst on the science part! I felt like the science was almost like critical thinking, & then there would be some specifics like questions about tissues.. Its a hard test to study for, but I think reviewing a&p and practicing how to set up math problems is def helpful-- the Kaplan guide has a lot more stuff than is actually found on the test, which can make it overwhelming.. There was no chemistry on my test.. Good luck(-:

Kaplan Exam
I took the Kaplan exam last week. I took it over a computer, & it was broken down into 4 sections; reading, writing, math, & science. The math was easy, and the test had a link to a basic operations calculator if you needed it. There was mostly percentages, fractions, ratios, & proportions in the math section. The reading was comprehension, & I felt like the passages were a bit long, but not hard to answer questions regarding them. Writing wasn't bad either-- mostly proper word usage, and spotting errors in grammar. The science was tough, & that was the section I studied the most! It was all a&p, so I would suggest you review that. I actually don't know what is considered a good score on that test because I couldn't seem to find much info regarding it, but at the school I was applying to they required a minimum of 60% and I scored an 82%. I was a little disappointed since I studied for like 6 days straight.. I studied a&p review books and I bought the NLN pre-nursing entrance exam study book, & I felt like the math was almost exactly the same as on the test.. Hope the info helps, and good luck!

ASN vs BSN
This is a good post, & I know something all of us have considered or are considering! I'm nervous about employment as well when it comes to ASN vs BSN.. The BSN's I've talked to that are working in atl area hospitals told me that the BSN makes you more 'desirable' for employment.. Then I know a couple nurses that have their ASN and they're employed and making good money! I wish I could just sit down with a hospital representative and ask them what to do lol.. Anyhow, I'm applying to both BSN and ASN programs. A couple things happened and I was unable to meet my application deadline last year, so in the meantime I just took the extra core requirements towards a BSN.. So we'll see if im accepted and where! Might just end up going ASN and finishing BSN online
