How Could She Have Died?
Thank you for raising awareness of this issue. Like other commenters, I was taught in nursing school that preeclampsia was a pregnancy issue that resolved with childbirth. I had never heard of it postpartum until it happened to my daughter-in-law three years ago. She had no symptoms and discovered it completely by accident a week post-partum when a friend came to visit her and her new baby, wanted to try out a new stethoscope, and discovered alarmingly high blood pressure. Fortunately, she got appropriate, prompt treatment and avoided the horror of Amy in your story.

How to show awards and volunteer work on new-grad resume
I am a new ASN graduate, with no health related job history. I have two questions about my resume: 1. I received the "Academic Award" at pinning. A pretty non-informative title to list with no explanation. The program had a paragraph about integrity and critical thinking and communication and compassionate care, but mainly it was for having the highest GPA in the class. How should I show and describe it on my resume? 2. I have volunteered at a local hospital for the past year, doing basically pct work in the recovery area of the GI lab. I have it under volunteer work on my resume, with a description of my duties. The online applications I have filled out populate it from my resume into the job experience section. They have no section for volunteer work. Should I keep it under job experience, calling the title "volunteer" and the salary $0? Or remove it and have nothing relevant in the experience section?

NCLEX results on hold
The same thing happened to me. Tested june 11, 75 questions, 2 hours, no breaks, and the palm thing needed a manual override at the end. The results on my state BON checklist changed from pending to incomplete yesterday afternoon (48 hours). Still on hold I wonder if anything will happen over the weekend?

nclex!!! test results on hold!
So ShawnGriffin, how long did it take for them to release the hold? I just took it on June 11 at 2 and am still on hold. 75 questions, almost 2 hours, no breaks, and they could not get a palm scan at the end, despite MANY tries.

What Pre-Requisites should I stack?
The school I did my pre-reqs at had the same rules, and yet my lab partner for Micro was also taking A&P1 and Chemistry (I think 1 but it might have been 2) at the same time, so apparently exceptions could be made.

ASN vs BSN
I went with Perimeter's ASN program. Mainly for convenience. This is my daughter's last year at home and I want to enjoy it. The GSU ACE program looked like it would be just too intense for me this year, and I did not want to commute as far as Kennesaw or Clayton State. I will see how things go. So far, GPC grads are still finding jobs.

GPC FALL 2012
I just looked at the calendar in icollege (First Two Months Calendar under the course calendar icon of the home page) and saw that Mondays were entirely empty. Is there another calendar I should be looking at?

Question about Pre-Res Classes?
The A&P you took in high school probably counts as A&P1. There is still A&P2 and Microbiology that most of the schools around here require. Most want Intro psychology, so if you have a chance to take AP or CLEP this year, that might be a good one to get done. The BSN programs also want to see Statistics (another one you can do AP), and Developmental Psych or abnormal psych. It varies a LOT from school to school. Sometimes a course has to be that school's own special version, and can't be transferred in by any means. Not all the pre reqs need to be done before you apply, and some can even be done as co-requisites alongside your nursing work. I second nyteshade's advice - contact or look on the website of schools you are considering. The pre-reqs and application process are not standardized much at all.

GPC FALL 2012
Will we be using those giant textbooks in class or are they mainly for reading and assignments at home? I'm trying to decide if I need to buy a wheely bag to carry everything.

Forced to stay and work under mandatory evacuation?
On a very practical note, what kind of childcare arrangements do people have that you can stay at work indefinitely on almost no notice? When my children were young, all the daycares I could find closed at 6 or 7 and charged $1 per MINUTE late fees. One summer I had a nanny, and she was somewhat more flexible, but she also had a family to get home to and could not easily have abandoned them on short notice to stay with my children. This is one of the biggest reasons I didn't even consider nursing as a career until now, when my youngest is going into 12th grade. So, to people who have dealt with these situations personnaly, what kind of arrangements do you have?

CLEP & GPA
I have CLEPed out of two classes already, and plan to take two more. The official school transcript counts them as transfer credits, so I get the hours but they have no effect on my official school GPA at all. But I have heard that my nursing program (Georgia Perimeter) does count the transfer grades and counts CLEP scores as B's when figuring the nursing admissions GPA. Not sure if that's true, so I have no idea what my admissions GPA is! It was good enough.

I need reassurance, or reality check?
Don't count on this. I have a bachelors and a masters degree, both with decent gpas, both from highly ranked national universities. When I applied to my local community college for a career change to nursing, they admitted me as a FRESHMAN! Only 18 of my 190 credits transferred, because they were either in subjects that the community college does not teach, or they were at too high a level, since they only give credit for freshman and sophomore level courses, or they were not part of the course of study for my proposed major. I had to submit my high school transcript, and had to either submit SAT scores or take their reading and writing placement tests.
