I need reassurance, or reality check?
ABOUT THE GPA ISSUE In my original college, I failed those classes, then retook them, got 2 Bs and an A. I began a different college after that, because I moved, and they didn't factor in my previous gpa, only the gpa I acquired while attending THAT school was valid there. Everyone has gotten so concerned! lol Thanks, though. I didn't realize I should've elaborated on that detail. And yes, I've heard that all classes you ever took anywhere EVER is transferred to a university. And that's why I'm so nervous :'(

I need reassurance, or reality check?
I do great in all my pre-req's. Except one semester I failed 3 courses =0 Because I was a freshman and thought that dropping my classes meant not showing up Oops =( I cried, and then I took the classes over and got 2 B's and an A I have a perfect GPA 4.0 But there's one more thing, I dropped out of high school and got a GED I've been a Patient Care Tech for a few years. Do you think that my application would be competitive when applying to a university? Think UIC, Loyola, Chicago State? Or do you think that since everyone and their momma is considering nursing, I don't stand a chance? Please give me advice.

CNA experience in Illinois?
Hey all :) I'm in Patient Care Tech program. I'll be a CNA in September, but, everywhere I look on job boards... the employers want at least 1 year experience. Of course, there's the common complaint, "How can I get experience if you don't hire me!?" I was wondering if any seasoned CNAs can shed some light on this topic. I've called some agencies and they require experience, as well. Help! Please? I took this course so that I can provide patient care while I'm in Nursing school, but it sucks that I can't find a job that doesn't require experience. I spoke with a couple CNAs who worked at my program's clinical site, and they said it only took them a week to find a job after being certified. But HOW? Thanks for any advice in advance ladies and gentlemen :)

MENP or BSN? Clever marketing tactics? Or not?
I'm a freshman at a Chicago City College. My ultimate goal is to become a Family Nurse Practitioner. I'm confused on which route I want to go from here. I've always wanted to transfer to UIC for the BSN program. Then go into a Master's Program. Probably at UIC. Recently, I discovered a BioScience Concentration at DePaul (BS degree). It has an emphasis on how 'societal issues influence individual health'. I love that, because I'm a strong believer that our country's food preferences attribute to most of our preventable diseases. I really want to study especially topics regarding that, because I am passionate about it and want to educate patients correctly. DePaul also has a minor in Urban Agriculture, that's starting this year. That sounds interesting, as well. In addition, Depaul also has an MENP program. What if I went the Depaul route? Is it just clever marketing to take all my dollars and keep me in school longer? Kind of sounds like it as I re-read my post here... Please. Give me opinions and experiences!

Volunteering at a hospital worth it?
I am extremely grateful for stumbling onto your post! I have been seriously considering applying for a volunteer position at the new Children's Hospital near me. According to your post, you really enjoyed tutoring in college: I would suggest seeking an academic position within the hospital's volunteer program. I'm sure you could tutor the pediatric units? Or you could even think outside of the box and suggest starting a children's/ adolescent (idk which one you would prefer working with) study group for the in-patients! I'm sure they would really like that during their stay, and that might give you some brownie points when applying to the hospital in the future? Like I was beginning to say... I'm glad I came across this post because I can now evaluate what's important to me in volunteering, and what would be the most enjoyable position. Thanks for the insight, I'm sure not all volunteers have the same experience as you have at a hospital, but you are the first I've heard from so it's valuable nonetheless :) But if I were in your position: try and do something that's worth it to you, within the volunteer experience. Continue to find your niche!
