Hi, I have met a couple of nurses from overseas who were being sponsered by the respective nursing agency. They are contracted to work for the agency for a set period of time. That could be an option for you depending on whether you want to be an agency nurse or not. It might be worth some research once you get some experience.........good luck :)

I agree, you can also look at houses for rent in these suburbs on http://www.realestate.com.au/ select Queensland and type in the name of the suburb you are looking at. I live near Springwood and it is a 15 - 25 min drive on the freeway to the PAH depending on the time of day and traffic. Good luck, and welcome :)

Hi Hassled, I am a mature age graduate nurse...I know it is disappointing not the get the hospital you wanted, but if you can get into one in your area, it is a start. Have you thought about going agency while you wait....I live in Brisbane and I know there is plenty of work here for Grads. But I have heard from others that some regional areas are harder to find work.

I was told as a student RN to keep an address book, and write the names of drugs, both generic, and trade, their action ie: hypertensive, beta blocker, antiangina, and the maximum dose for each drug as I came across them. I continue to do this as graduate RN, and it is handy to have something on me (I carry it around with me in my pocket), to remind me, if I go blank on what the drug is for when I'm administering it. I also have at the front of the book acronyms which I find useful to assess patients, or which help me in my nursing practice. Hope this is of help........ :)

When I was doing my degree I used the following databases ; proquest nursing, and swetwise alot. Use the database directory through your university, at Griffith, we could link up using a program to the university database and search it from home. Good luck...............

I agree, I also think this is a major issue in nursing. My son is doing his apprenticeship and will earn more income at 21 than I do, being a newly graduated RN (I'm late to the industry). It is the responsibility that is not being compensated for... and this is a worldwide issue in nursing. I love being a registered nurse, it is the profession for me, but... the income will always be an issue when considering the cost and responsibility involved.
