  1. I want to say don't stress but hey I've been there! I'm a single parent too! Worked while in school and I made it out alive! NCLEX for me was a breeze. However I had a program that previous graduates would say if you can pass their exams boards are a breeze it was true I was educated by some amazing people who make NCLEX seen like a piece of cake! Jobs all depend on your location. My first was as a flu nurse 19/hr. I have been working LTC now for just over a month and my first weekend not training was this weekend(I'm working bailor shifts) sat/sun 7a-7p. Work 24 paid for 32 I have no benefits. Only FT get benefits. But I'm compensated with higher pay. I have a very demanding workload of 30 pts five are tubes/trach I'm still slow in my early med pass and nursing school doesn't prepare you for the world of nursing. Documentation is something you learn with time I'm still learning! I was lucky to land a job in a facility who let me train for over a month and would give me more time if needed.
  2. This was me a few weeks ago. I was on my own for the first time tonight. I had five weeks of or. They would give me more if I wasn't confident. It takes time to learn patients. I had cheat sheets(who gets crused/hole/tube) and other things. I'm responsible for six patients head to toe while I work my two day bailor. It's not at all what school prepares you for it's so much more. Take notes and don't be afraid to ask a question even if you think it makes you sound stupid. ASK!! Good luck

Yes it's LTC on what they consider the hardest hall in the facility. Which they never usually hire new nurses for. I'm slow at my morning med pass it is ridiculous.
  4. I just started my first LTC job as a new grad 19/hr in NC
  5. I did flu clinics and worked with staff who did the wellness clinics. It's fairly easy and I'm sure it won't take you long to get a hang of it!!

I started my first job as a LPN and I am beyond overwhelmed with the workload. My feet are killing me. I honestly questioned myself the first few weeks if I made the right decision. I know I did and this is part of my duties. I felt nursing school never prepared me for this at all
  7. I feel the same some of the I just started my first LTC position three weeks ago and I feel like nursing school didnt prepare me enough for this. I have huge med passes and I'm slow as ever. I feel like I still have tons more to learn(total different rant) Just remember you are thereto be a good nurse and have compassion. I think a lot of people forget that!
  8. Do what you can. I worked pt, went to school at night and have a 4 year old I made it through I also know several other women in my class who worked Ft and supported their entire family while In school I say it's all in your determination
  9. When I was in school I used quizlet a lot even looked at others material
  10. I passed my license went active yesterday!! Two days after my test!!
  11. Read everything. Make your own notes from reading or lectures, record lectures. Utilize YouTube, quizlet and this site!! You will do great!! Good luck!!
  12. Congrats to both of you!! As far as math if you have a good teacher she or he will be able to explain it in a way that makes sense to you!! It's worth it! I just graduated and took NCLEX this past Monday!!
  13. There's no wait list at gaston. There's a point system based on your Pre-reqs, gpa, teas score. They take the highest scoring students. The following year it starts back over there is no technical "wait list" but gaston has a high NCLEX passage rate. Those are important things to look at
  14. Where did you go to school? I was pinned July 31 and took NCLEX yesterday. Compared to our exams in school it wasn't bad at all. Few things I haven't heard of but with how I was taught I knew how to answer. :) good luck. I didn't study at all besides a few ati questions. Cut off at 85 and pvt won't let me re register
  15. Things I didn't know...know your ABCD's!!
  16. Cut off at 85 questions and pvt would not let me re-register. Quick results are available tomorrow. My teacher said she is positive I passed
  17. We did a ati comprehensive test to tell us if we took it that day what our chance of passing was I had a 97% chance of passing. That was 4 weeks ago I graduated July 31
  18. I haven't studied at all for it. None of my classmates have either and so far everyone that has taken it have been cut off between 75-100 questions. I answered a few ati questions since graduation but that's all.
  19. I always say determination gets you where you want to go. Similar situation except I got a pell grant. Single mom here I actually maxed it out and my dad had to help pay for my last semester. I was pinned last night as an LPN and preparing for NCLEX. I've worked as a CNA in home health for over two years. I worked 20 hours a week and went to school FT. Little guy went to daycare and my parents watched him until I got home from school at night. I know other women who worked FT and did the program Ft while being the sole provider for their entire family. It's doable very hard I became accustomed to four hours of sleep a night and stayed stressed a lot. But the outcome is worth it. No social life as every free moment I had was or my son. He's missed me a lot and now is just excited to have me back during the week days. Stick to it and know that the hard times, weakest times to never give up on your dream.
  20. I know several people who have held down jobs and children. It's all in your determination. I worked 20/hrs a week. And studied my life away. I did not have a Social life at all.
  21. Thanks for the response I answered this question myself not long after posting!!
  22. Look into programs in your area to help with daycare or even the schools you are thinking of applying to. I went back to school when my little one was 9 months. I moved back to my parents but he went to daycare(I had assistance from our local DSS) also my school offered a daycare program too but there was a wait list. I failed my first attempt at RN then started LPN right after tonight is my pinning and It was all worth it. I missed a lot of time with my little boy but like you it's for him to provide :) DSS might me a good place to start and then the schools.
  23. Kind of dragged my rear about paying everything plus the money wasn't there. I mailed in my identification sheet to NCBON today they should have it by noon tomorrow. I am Being fingerprinted(livescan) tomorrow How long did you guys wait for your ATT? I haven't paid Pearson I planned to wait until I get my ATT or should I go ahead and pay them?
  24. Remember your ABCD and maslows
  25. I would think regular school would be a good idea. I am from around Charlotte and I'm not familiar with any year long schools (unless they are private) they usually run aug/sept to may/June.
