  1. I am a new grad RN working for the VA and I absolutely love it. I am in their RN transition to practice program. Each facility varies. But the nurses I work with our very smart, our Veterans have their own private rooms on our floor, the benefits are great, we do self scheduling so you do have opportunities to use all that PTO.
  2. If you don't mind me asking. Since its an online program was it hard to get accepted? Also do you know how many ppl they accept each class? I plan on applying for their winter start
  3. I like the progrom so far and working for the VA as well. Being a new grad I was worried about the transition to professional from student. But i didn't have any problems. Everyone at my facility is very nice and helpful
  4. You'll go to class one a month for a year. Have a mentor along with ur preceptor on the floor ur working at. Have to do a evidence based project and present it to the higher reps of the hospital. Im in my 4th month of the program
  5. I liked the program. And I'm working for the VA hospital in their RN residency program
  6. I was hired as a new grad as well. My references I used were my clinical instructors and they sent forms to fill out. The other personal reference I used my work study boss n another person i knew. However to my knowledge only my clinical instructors received forms to fill out
  7. Good luck. Have fun. Graduated May 2014
  8. You be surprise. Compare the cost of living in California to Mississippi. Big difference therefore big difference in salary
  9. All depends on where you live and/or if your willing to relocate
  10. Yea I plan on spending my whole career with them. And yea ur right make sure your school is regionally accredited or else ur degree means nothing. I know the one I went to Tampa campus is fully accredited
  11. Yea i think looking outside of your current state is a good thing. I was hired out of state, luckily for me it's with the VA hospital so I didn't have to apply for endorsement since they accept any state licensure. But I think as a new grad it is important to expand your job search to not just ur city or state provided u have the means to do so
  12. Florida ADN & BS in Health Ed. & Behavior Graduated: May 2014 Passed: NCLEX June 2014 4 Interviews from: July-August 2014 Accepeted Job Offer: August 2014 Start Nov 2014 with the VA hospital
  13. Hi I was offered 2 positions at 2 separate VA facilities and I am a recent new grad with a ADN and BS in health ed & behavior. Took the position now waiting for salary. So yes as a new grad ADN u can get hired. For me it was not hard. I applied and around 2 weeks later had an interview. IDK about the shift dilemma u heard about but when i was interviewed and offered the position I was brought on to work nights 12 hour shifts and they never mentioned shifts changing to shorter ones
  14. Thanks. And good luck
  15. I am a recent graduate this past April. Just a heads up even though your only taking 2 classes a semester they are very demanding. You won't have much time to work. Your gonna have clinical, homework, ATI, and exams. Your class schedule changes a lot. And each semester gets harder. But Keiser is a good school. In my opinion. Passed the NCLEX in June with 75 questions. Received 4 new grad residency job offers. And now I am going to be working for the VA hospital.
  16. Also I did not contact recruiter. One posting was open only for 2 weeks and the other was continuous opening. But i got offered both hospitals. And I'm also a new grad so don't give up hope
  17. From when I applied to interview around 2 weeks. And job offer from thsat point 3 weeks
  18. HR would be your best bet to ask to help with these questions. Any errors can risk your application not being considered. They usually list a contact person on the job posting
  19. Well I wouldn't overstudy. Remember u have the knowledge u just spent all those semesters in school. I feel the nerves is what messes ppl up. Hurst is either in classroom or online. U can go on their website to check it out. I just studied with them and passes first time with 75 q's
  20. There isnt a magic recipe. Study!! Study !!! Invest in taking prep courses. I recommend Hurst. Others have taken Kaplan or ATI
  21. Any advice or comments are welcomed. I am currently a new grad (May'14) who has passed boards in June'14. I was recently given a tentative offer at 2 separate VA hospitals. Both of which are out of state for me (but I'm fine with relocating). One is in Jackson, Miss and the other is in Columbia, SC. Both positions will be on the same nursing floor. The benefits will be the same. However I have a possibility of getting 60% of my nursing student loans paid by the government through a certain Program if I work at the facility in Mississippi. Other than that, big difference is the different cities. My question is does anyone have any insight or have worked for either facility and could give me feedback on both? Also if you currently live in either of the cities which one is nice to live. I have an idea where I want to go but I know this site is meant to help one another so I figured I just ask for some opinions. This is an amazing opportunity to have offers from two different VA hospitals as I know how tough it is to gain employment with them let alone being a new grad. Thanks in advance. :)
  22. Well if u meet the qualifications then your status will say referred usually and that's when u wait to see if you'll get an interview. But the process does take some time from start to finish so I wouldn't count yourself out just yet.
  23. It all depends on the facility. I got calls for an interview after the posting closed 3 weeks after another was 2 weeks.
  24. I have a BS and ADN graduated in April. Received license in June. Have had 4 interviews for hospital positions 2 critical care 1 med surg 1 telemetry/med surg. Now deciding between 2 VA hospital positions at separate locations that I have been offered
  25. Thank you same thing I did here in Florida.
