Obamacare Survives, Supreme Court Rescues 'Big Health'
I don't agree. I am from Europe, lived there most of my life and decided to get my nursing degree in the States. I will never go back to their nationalized health care. What you read is not real, just bunch of the words to make them feel better about themselves. Ordinary people just suffer there.

Interview at Duke
Thanks. I went to school in bay area. But SD was always my dream place. My family has a house in Coronado, so we usually spend summers there. I love that place :)

Interview at Duke
Congrats. I tried for SCRIPPS too, but I did not even make first 500. When I finished with my application, it was already too late. What unit did you get in? Well, I know I will have a great time at Duke. Hopefully then, more doors will open :) and maybe SD will welcome me :)

where to rent in Durham?
Thanks DeLynn, I will check the site. Also, I am looking for a small complex, maybe 2-max 4 units. I am not a big fan of those huge complexes, whether they have great pool, gym or other facilities. I want something small, duplex would be ideal.

where to rent in Durham?
Hi, I am relocating to NC from CA and I am looking for 2BR apartment in Durham area. Which are the good/safe areas to rent near Durham? Something no more than 30-40 minutes commute from Duke Hospital. Thanks

Interview at Duke
I did not make any calls yet. But I have some places I would like to check. I am going to be there mid-late July, so as I get closer to my departure, then I'll call some places. Did you find any place?

Interview at Duke
Do you know if we have to apply for relocation grant before we move to be eligible for it? I know we can apply for it after we sign the contract (which might be the end of August), but then I should be moved in NC. Would I still get the relocation grant after I am moved in? Did you have a chance to talk to recruiter about this?

Interview at Duke
Thanks bigworld. I am planning to get a car there. Right now, I am looking close to Durham or Chapel Hill. Do you know when they ask us to sign the contract and do all the health check ups? Are you planning to get relocation assistance from Duke?

Interview at Duke
I interviewed for the OR unit. So, I think it is different than regular new grad program. I was selected to attend open house, which I believe they did for 2 days. Their website mentioned that this program is offered 1-2 times a year. They selected 30 applicants and from those 12-15 got the job offer. They have Tuesdays and Thursdays live chat on their website. You should try it and ask them all the questions you might have. They are very helpful.

San Diego job market for RNs
I am sorry if I am too negative but after 6 months of trying to find a job down here, I end up disappointed and frustrated with the nursing job market. I would not move to SD until I have a job offer in hands. There are too many new grad RN's trying to get a job in SD or anywhere in CA. I finished my degree here and got my license but I am not wasting anymore time here. As much as I love SD I can not wait here helplessly. For that reason I am moving out of the state to get experience and hopefully, after few years I can come back. Sorry, if I sound discouraging but SD is very competitive, the entire CA is overwhelmed with new grad RN's. Good luck, there are few lucky ones, so maybe you will find what you are looking for.

Interview at Duke
Well, it is definitely cheaper than California. There are nice houses with lots of land for reasonable prices. But your salary would be much less than in CA. Anyway, I think you get better quality of life in NC. Don't get me wrong, CA is beautiful and I love it but as a young professional I am struggling here.

Hi bigworld, I've been looking at some places online. I won't be able to get there until late July. Let me know how it goes with you.

Are they contacting everyone (all 16 candidates) that they interviewed or just people who got into the program?

Interview at Duke
BTW, if you have any questions about the program or just about DUKE, you can chat online with the recruiter. They have chat session every Tuesday and Thursday. I got lots of my questions answered there before my interview.

Interview at Duke
I love DUKE. The staff is friendly and super helpful. I wish that hospital like that could be in SD. But I am ready to move if nothing else here. Yes, I accepted the offer. The program starts at the end of August, so I have plenty of time to move to NC. Are you still waiting to hear from SD? What unit are you interviewing for? Let me know how it goes.

Interview at Duke
Hi Luckybella. Congratulation on interview. My advice would be to be yourself. Be confident and don't be afraid to talk about all your good qualities that you can bring to their hospital setting. They are interested in someone who is highly motivated and eager to learn. So, mention some of the experience where you showed these qualities. Good luck

California BON investigating 2 misdemeanor driving convictions from 10 years ago!!!!
as an applicant, you should present the board with as much detailed and truthful information as possible. you must report: (1) traffic ticket(s) that resulted in a fine of over $300.00; (2) conviction(s) that have been expunged (i.e., a conviction that was stricken or deleted from official records); (3) all misdemeanors, felonies and/or convictions that resulted in nolo contender pleas; (4) convictions that occurred prior to the age of 18; and (5) military convictions or dishonorable discharge. i believe that you must write a letter to brn explaining the situation of traffic violation and also submit a letter of recommendation from a professor. you should be truthful about it and not hide anything. you'll pay your fine, jump through some hoops, but at the end you should receive your license (it might just take a little longer).
