  1. Thank you for your comments
  2. Hi, I am planning to relocate to Dallas and I have few interviews set up. I am wondering what is the base rate for 3+ years experience BSN RN. I believe that HCA recruiter in North Dallas TX offered $29.88 base rate. Is that acceptable for that area or should I negotiate? Thanks
  3. Thanks for the input.
  4. My first RN job after graduation was in operating room working as a scrub and circulating nurse. I also did not know what to think about it, but I really enjoyed the role in the OR (except the attitudes from surgeons). I was in a great teaching hospital and with a great team, and I learned many useful skills. I think I would still be there, if the surgeons would really learn to appreciate the nurses. I was able to switch departments within the same hospital, since I was interested to learn more about my patients and see actual progress in recovery. I am glad I did not turn OR position down. I gained great experience and eventually was able to progress to the department where I can be at my best. Good luck with your decision.
  5. Hi, I am interested in position at HCA Medical City Dallas and I learned that for documenting they are using Meditech system. I am used to working with Epic charting system. I heard that Meditech is user unfriendly and I was wondering what are the thoughts of nurses working at this facility with this system. Thanks
  6. UCSD is a teaching hospital, so lots of resources available. Rady is the only level 4 NICU in So Cal, so you'll see lots of different cases, a chance to expand the skills since all other hospitals in the area transfer the critical cases (mostly cardiac related) there. Sharp Mary Birch expanded recently- 84 beds in the NICU. All of them are very good. It depends what you are looking for in terms of experience. BTW, USCD NICU is planning to move to La Jolla in October. So, there will be lots of changes. They've been hiring more than usual.
  7. They have same location but are different hospitals. Rady focusing exclusively to pediatric healthcare and Sharp Mary Birch caring for women and newborns. Rady Childrens has level 4 NICU, Sharp level 3 NICU.
  8. I contacted travel agency but they told me that for NICU I need 2 years and that is also for all the staff position in the NICU department in San Diego area. I started applying for surgery positions, but I left that job a year ago and I am worried that I forgot lots of things. I would not do it as travel position since the training would be not enough to refresh my skills. I applied all over Cali, even in north part, just to get closer to my husband.
  9. I've been working as RN for 2 years in a teaching hospital. My first year I spent in a surgery and second in the NICU. My husband's job is in SD and I would like to finally join him there (since I spent 2 years away from him getting my experience). I've been applying for jobs in SD but so far nothing serious happened. We decided that in next few months I'll move whether having job or not. But I am getting cold feet and I am really afraid I might not find a job in the hospital there. Should I risk it and move or wait and wait, and hopefully, something will come up?
  10. Hi gsi00154 I am at Duke too. I love it here but I miss my family. Are you working in CA? Which area specifically? And how long did it take you to find a job? I am planning to move out at my 2 year mark.

  12. I precepted at JMMC-WC and I love that hospital. I tried to get in, but they cancelled the program, so I was forced to look for a job in another state. I definitely recommend to do some research in what hospitals they hire, how many programs a year they offer, how many applicants they accept and where were the last layovers. Bay area is tough and for new grads it is extra tough. So, look up the places that can give you the best options for your start in the career.
  13. I also recommend moving out. Cali is rough, and it seems like it is not going to get any better soon. Don't waste your time here. After I graduated I was looking for 8 months for a job in CA. Then I got a great opportunity in NC. I am finally doing what I originally planned to do. It is going to be 2 years soon, and even though I am trying to get back to Cali, I still am happy that I made that move. I wish I wouldn't have to start looking for jobs in CA but 2 years living across the States from my husband is too long.
  14. Hi, I also have been looking to relocate to southern Cali. My husband is already working here and I am still in NC. I have a year experience in surgery and trying to get another year in the NICU where I would like to stay. I tried to get a job in Sand Diego area, applied to 15 positions and got reply from 1. They suggested me to apply in surgery because I have longer experience there but I really want to stay at the patient bedside, preferably with neonates. At the moment, I am working in one of the top 10 best hospitals and I have a great time there. But most of my family is in Cali now and so I am looking to move soon.
  15. Thanks AP0525 I love the hospital, job, my team. Everyone is so nice and supportive. I feel so privileged to work a Duke
  16. Hi onetoremember1123 I haven't heard from them but I am not waiting any more. I accepted job somewhere else and I am glad I made a move. You can also try to call the unit manager and ask them. I remember that they mentioned to call back, if we do not hear from them by mid. of Aug. Good luck
  17. Students who have the highest GPA or are involved with different college associations/ programs have the priority to sign up for the classes early; at least my college had this system. Something you might check at your husband college.
  18. Hi, The interview was fine but Salinas seems like out of nowhere. They are looking for 2 more people and they are still waiting for the budget approval, so it might take a while to hear from them. Probably by mid of August. Good luck to those who interviewed on Monday.
  19. I tried to chat online with recruiter on Duke site but she did not have any news for me. Did you find an apartment? I am going to be in Durham next weekend, so will check some places. Hopefully, it won't be too difficult to find something reasonable.
  20. Hi bigworld, Did you hear anything else? I tried to contact HR but no reply.
  21. Does anyone else has an interview on Monday?
  22. This was for Maternal Infant Unit.
  23. No, my status did not change. It just say "in screening". I got the email yesterday. Did you get it too?
  24. Hi, Did anyone else get an email saying that he/she is invited to participate in a final selection interview for the position of Staff Nurse I- New Grad at Natividad Medical Center in Salinas? I got email like this and I am not sure what to do. They said that this is temporary, non-benefited position and I would like more information about this before I commit to interview with them. Also, it would be helpful to know more about the hospital, any reviews from the staff or patients. Thanks
  25. Not really, sorry. Right now I am just searching online and it is hard to decide what is appropriate. Will be there end of July and hopefully, will find something.
