Hostile work environment - Violent Doctor
Just got same experience with horrible Doctors. Why do these doctors act like kings? What recourse do we have? Can we report them to CMS? DOH? Check your facility maybe there is a hotline where you can report anonymously. My experience has been that the nurse is at fault most of the time, even if it's otherwise.

what items could you not go a nursing shift without?
coffee, coffee, coffee, coffeeeeeee ad infinitum......

IV Push Lasix
This pt sounds like she needs to go to an Acute Care Setting. I would refuse giving any meds that I do not feel comfortable giving. You should tell your Supervisor.

Feeling depressed with new job as a nurse...
Try finding a different area in thesame Hosp that you think you might like. Also, you do not have to work 3 consecutive days in a row, vary your schedule and find something else to do on your day off. I hope you have flexible scheduling. Be thankful for the job you have as the economy is not that great yet. One hour drive is not really that bad (at least for me)- it will get better soon. Good luck

Nurse on vacation
The best advise is do not bring your cell phone to your vacation, but you need to contact your family too. So the other best advise is to screen your calls or put everything on voice mail, review the voice mails later. When you are on vacation, only impt calls should be answered. (ie life and death situations involving family members at home). Enjoy your vacation. LOL.

Impossible job expectations
No this is not normal. This is the way how Nursing has become because RNs who went up the Chain of Command forgot how they got there. They do not think about patient acuity, workload, RNs are human beings and do get tired. These so called Directors or Managers are just interested in their bonuses? This has to stop. ryrn59
