  1. And probably retirement age will go up, or retirement will become unaffordable
  2. Been there, I have four kids and as babies they did not want to sleep without me Few suggestions: Very young babies fall in light sleep first (adults fall in deep sleep, so once we are out, we are really out). A baby takes about ten to fifteen minutes before deep sleep starts. That is when you can move away from them without disturbing them. In the meantime, either enjoy your rest or have a study ook or notes ready so you can do reading while waiting for the deep sleep. During a feeding, see if your baby wants to take more milk from one breast first before switching breasts, or switch breasts back and forth. I this way, they get more of the fatter hind milk, which slows down digestion, calms the stomach and may have them sleep a bit longer between feedings. But even if you do not switch, they still get plenty of the fatter milk. It is just as if you add a bit a whipped cream to the whole milk. If you need study time, try to figure out when the longest naps take place. Forget about the housekeeping if you want to give priority to your study. It is hard, I know that from experience. Break down your study materials and chores in the house in tiny bits. Even five minutes of work here and there will give you a sense of accomplishment if you know that you finished the chunk of work completely. Really think in small steps, for instance: I want to get the laundry from the washer into the dryer and have it turned on. That is different than thinking that you want to have the laundry done, folded and stored away. Carry your baby in a sling or wrap. They sleep longer so you can get things done in the house while they sleep on you. Learn to nurse while your baby is in a sling or wrap. Saves time, you can do more nursing on the go. Record your lectures and listen to it while getting around the house, in the car (only one earbud) while trying to fall asleep, while cooking, ironing, you name it. Relax. They will change and in a few months from now, life looks different again. Hug your baby, enjoy these precious days when they are so small.
  3. Here a two year program starting in August too. Orientation is at the beginning of August. Paperwork meeting half of June, but I think I will ask for a head start due to traveling this summer and I want to be sure that all is in order on time. Shoes: I know from working as a hostess and server that standing and walking for long times ask for comfort shoes. Of course we needed dressy shoes, so I paid a good amount for shoes that looked nice and supported well enough to get me through sometimes a shift of fourteen hours. Phew, hope I still can do such long shifts, I am a bit older now after all. I plan to get fit over the summer. Loose a few pounds, do gentle weight training for my arms and walk, cycle and swim whenever I can and get my muscles that support back and shoulder in shape. Eat well, sleep well, be happy and relax. .that is the plan and if only 25% will be achieved I will be in a better place than where Ai am right now after completing all required coursework I started cleaning and organizing my house again and train the children in being more independent where it comes to waking up, breakfast, lunch totes and homework. Need to figure out if and what form of support I need, get a backup list for babysitters if youngest falls ill during school. Luckily the oldest is available for two weeks into the program, which gives me a bit longer to get sitters lined up. This way I can wait for students returning after the summer. Updated my computer and tablet, and I am figuring out what apps may be handy in school. Free apps, that is Although I am a paper and pen person, I will try to make notes on the tablet and upload it to a cloud so that I can access my notes anytime, anywhere, even on my phone. Also plan to record lectures that I can listen to when driving. I did this for pharm and it worked out wonderful. With driving to and from school and clinically and driving the kids on other days I can repeat many lectures in all these hours. Thanks for this thread. I gives me the chance to put my thoughts in order, which helps my planning and stick to the plan Two years is actually four times four and a half month. That does not sound like a long time.
  4. Hello Tom, It looks to me, from your posting, that you have a lot on your plate. Read through similar postings and see how others dealt with their stresses. Only you can decide what to do. I can only suggest what I would do in your case: I would see a counselor at my school and would rethink working two jobs and time spend in school, but take it one class at a time. Why the hurry? I would also see how I could either set aside money right now so I could work less during nursing school, or find out what financial support I could get, again, school may know more about this. Also, talk to your instructors, try to find out where it goes wrong on your test. and finally: be honest to yourself. Check the total amount of time you study each week for your classes. Do you spend the time on it that you are supposed to put into it, or do you try to cut corners due to overload of commitments? What I learned from other students and here by reading the forum, is that there is no single path set in stone that you have to follow to get where you want to be. We all have our own path, our own strategies (keep it legal and honest, please) and our own pace to get to that moment that the application for a program is submitted. Good luck with your decision.
  5. Hi Carolina, Thank you for your explanation. I still need more, I still can not wrap my head around the liters and pounds. I would say that 4 to 6 liters is roughly 1 to 1.5 gallons of fluid, which is a bit on the low side. Now how can I imagine such an amount of fluid in pounds? One gallon equals 8 pints. One pint is about one pound. And then I get at about 8 pounds (actually a little bit more) for one gallon of fluid. I understand that you cannot just convert fluid into weight. On the other hand, if we a talking about the human body, then a liter of fluid is approximately 1 kilo. To measure on a day to day basis if someone is retaining fluid, it is close enough. So, to get to the 2 to 3 pounds, I still feel I oversee something significant. Help.
  6. Hello, I do not understand the 2 to 3 pounds being equivalent to 4 to 6 liters. I would think 2 to 3 liters would be 4 to 6 pounds. Conversion from liters to pounds, or kilos to pounds, is liters times 2.2. What do I miss?
  7. Congrats to you too, see you soon!
  8. I am in! Just got the letter in the mail.
  9. I got the letter, I am offered enrollment!
  10. Take muffin pan, line with muffin papers. Fry finely chopped onions, bell peppers broccoli in a frying pan until aldente, mix in beaten eggs, poor mixture in muffin pans and bake until eggs are solid. Take one or two in your lunch bag, cool de remainder for the next day or day after. I did not try to freeze them, but that may work too. If that works, you can make ahead of time and have lunch to grab. a combine with some fresh fruit and you are good to go. The protein helps prevent dipping blood glucose levels. Clivia
  11. Community Colleges have many online courses, so you can do some of the prerequisite at a time schedule that suits you. Also, they offer afternoon and evening classes as well, which again may fit your schedule better. I had young kids when I started back in school again so I took it one class at a time. If admitted to nursing school, I will go back full time. Even if you cannot afford a tutor, schools offer tutoring. Also, instructors have office hours and are always happy to help you with questions. In fact, they appreciate that and see when you are serious in achieving your goals. One step at a time and you will get there.
  12. Hey, look at my prediction I heard from a friend who is in the other pharma class when they were meeting so that is where my estimate came from. Are you doing other classes as well at the moment? How is pharmacology going? I am glad I have that out of the way, it is such an enormous amount of work!
  13. I am 49, have four kids and am waiting for a yay or nay letter this month. I started working on prerequisites a few years ago, when all kinds of hold ups happened. I persevered and hopefully the pay off will come soon. Now I need to go back to preparing last two finals in the next few days.
  14. Rumor has it that the committee did not get together for the final decisions yet. I would count on at least ten more days :)
