Hi I had malpractice ins but after meeting with my insurance guy who always does a great job keeping my costs down he said I already have a clause in my existing homeowners policy similar to malpractice ins that covers me for inflicting any harm anywhere I go (8-0 lol (even at work) so he said I did not really need extra ins because this one covers my net worth which is what he recommends . So if you have something in place already then u might not need it but I do suggest some sort of coverage and the malpractice wasn't too expensive anyway.. Better safe than sorry!

That's a tough position. Myself I would prob do something part time within the day care hours. It's good for you have some interaction with adults while your husband is deployed but full time might be too much time from the kids.. (?) overall in the big picture any experience is good experience and the acute care can.come later if that the way it needs to be for now.. ..I'm in the same career boat without "acute" care experience but I have a very rewarding position with medically fragile kids .. I think after working here now I'd prob qualify to work acute but not sure i even care if I ever do anymore : )

I disagree re acls and pals I was specifically ruled out for several positions because I did not have them. Where I live there are 800 new grads coming into the market at every semester completion with all the JC university and private school graduations. Competition is very very stiff for new grads and every certification you can get behind you will keep your resume at the top of the stack .. Around here anyway. Maybe there really is a nursing shortage where you are and these things don't matter. If so that's awesome for you!

Acls and pals are great to have though many laces will pay for them later it looks better on ur resume up front

I agree .. Compared to a lot of people I do pretty great financially.. Especially in my area which was one of the 5 worst hit in the nation during the recent economic problems. I make about 73k and it goes pretty far because our cost of living is pretty low.

And ps you might want to give a sincere thanks for the break for positive reinforcement.

Mho: If the dr handled then I wait and see if it happens again.. She may have learned something there. Make a note of the date and time as suggested and give her the benefit of the doubt for now..

As a fellow nurse- baker.. Don't limit your self to cupcakes.. They are a trend and the next low carb diet craze rolls around you'll be out of beeswax faster than Krispy Kreme was in my state when Atkins hit the news. You need a variety of offerings and skills to make it in the bakery biz... So hone up on cake making /decorating and learn a few other tricks and treats..something special not being offered in ur area.. cupcake only shops need to be somewhere that gets very intense foot traffic of ppl in a good mood to have a treat..like down town in a tourist area where hundreds of ppl are going by.. Think of how many $3 cupcakes u need to sell per day to operate a storefront and rent and utilities and other staff in a prime tourist spot.. .. That's a LOT of cupcakes..you'd need a few $500 wedding cakes a week just cover ur costs..not trying to be negative.. I'd like to do the same thing someday lol.. Just some practical thoughts I have had for my own considerations of having a small bakery some day.. Good luck : )

It's ok. You will like it once you get past the awkward phase of being a student. And there are a lot of biotches out there that's true but ur new best friends are out there too ..give it a try for a bit,, and see what happens. Being a nursing student is completely different than being a nurse . ..

I'm not sure what the official answer is but I've gotten every job I've interviewed for while wearing scrubs. I think it's a way for them to visualize you working there as that is what you will look like when you come to work (?)

I've known people who have gotten stuck. They rushed .. I refuse to rush with sharps.

When I went to nursing school I was a single mom with no child support or family financial support. I could t even get food stamps. The only aide I got was a $750 pell grant each semester and discounted child care. Turned out it was all I really needed. I waitressed full time and worked at a Dairy Queen decorating ice cream cakes part time while i went to nursing school full time. My mom helped with the extra child care because that was the only way she could help me. I paid for each semester with my waitressing tips lol! ...the place was just a neighborhood pub where a bunch of regulars came. Nice people and very fond memories of THEIR support knowing I was juggling all this with a 4 yr old. Ahhhhhh I miss those days!!! I loved school!! I remember the first day of school when an instructor asked those who had jobs to raise their hands an about 6 of us did and she told the rest of the class "take a look at these people with their hands raised.. You won't be seeing them next semester" sent chills down my spine.. But they saw me, the next semester and the next and the next lol

So I'm a single mom working NOC .. am fine with this shift as i have an adult family member here when I'm at work for my kids. Now the family member is going to be moving out in the near future and I wont work noc leaving the kids home. So do I approach my current employer and let them know I'd like to make a change even though they have just hired a bunch of new ppl for days..then risk them replacing me without a day position for me or just look for a new job altogether ?? This is so stressful. I like my job they pay me well and I've only been here 5 mos. ugh ..I hate making a change so soon..what to do

Everywhere at work this week were flyers listing all the goodies and fun things they did for nurses week. Days and pms both had something special done for them on every shift this week.. Food prizes etc... On Noc we got nothing.. Like zilch. Not even a lousy piece of candy left for us lol! ..I guess nurse appreciation only counts when Managment is there to soak in their generosity. Lol

For me I can't stick to a noc schedule cause I have kiddos.. But if OP is single it might be easier for you! I have weekends off so I transition over Friday by staying awake most of the day and sleeping Friday night..and taking a long nap late Sunday afternoon. I tend to do better every day by taking a nap before going back in .. If I don't get he or so nap in the early eve I really struggle..

I'm with you! I started noc in Jan. there's a lot to love about night shift. lol I recently noticed I can't sleep very well all of a sudden. When i started it was still dark when i drove home ..I'm thinking because the season has changed and now the sun is bright when I'm driving home that's kinda messing with me. It was recently cloudy and dark when I drive home and I slept great that day.. I do have black out curtains and stuff.. So I think it's the bright sun doing it for me...I drink lots of ice water and ice tea when I'm working and that helps keep me up. But around 4 I start to Peter out and I'm trying to stop that!!

I was just saying after 3 of us were huddled over a written TO trying to figure it out that we need to create a gameshow for nurses called "Guess That Orderrrrrrrrr"

This place in working at now is a SNF. Its prob 40 yrs old and I'm not sure if the original building was a medical facility or what. .I'm doing NOC charge so I've got 2 units in a circular building and about 27 PTs. Just last week I had patients in both units asking about the children playing in the hall. One was complaining they were keeping him up and another lady was talking to them. The lady has dementia but the guy on the other side is just there for pt and still practices law part time..the week before we had people calling a gold colored puppy into their rooms. Again more than one person asking about the puppy on the same night.. I don't know ..kinda weird..but As long as were just talking kids and puppies I'm not too freaked out lol..one lady was seeing the devil devil which disturbed us Lol

Not a great plan. I had to complete a refresher program because my ex would never let met work after I graduated and passed nclex then fast forward 14yrs later I'm a single mom with no license or work experience. The program was 3k and took 4 really intense months. If u let ur license expire you will need to take one to get it back. I am slugging a year out working SNF and moving to a smaller town where I m going to Get out of SN and get into acute care.

So we all want to be RN's at the hospital..I lack those precious years; of "experience" and am doing time in sub acute rehab..I am sickened (physically nauseated) by the fact we have a very elderly getleman (94yo)who lost his wife to cancer,, we put him in the van to go to her funeral.day after he got there...the next day therapy has him doing leg raises and complains he is not trying..I am ashamed,,I want to be a nurse to help people get better but I have become part of some ugly machine that keeps people who shouldn't be there to keep census looking good for corporate..how is acute nursing compared? Do you find yourself ashamed for sending people not really ready to d/c?....where can you be a nurse and do the right thing?
