Hello All, I know this topic has been mentioned before, but I haven't found any recent threads. I am a med/surg nurse with one year of experience who just received a job in postpartum (yay!). I am so excited. I just have a couple questions. Are there any special supplies/equipment that you use? For example, an infant steth? Also, I saw the sticky on what books to read, but are there any quick reference books that you used when you started? Thanks for your help and I am so happy that I get to be a part of this community. It's been my dream.

A lot of you mention changing specialties, are there any suggestions for this? I am thinking of leaving acute care, but I am not sure where to go. I feel the same way you do OP and I've only been doing this for a year. It makes me sad that I have lost my passion I once had.

I am glad you brought up the lack of equipment because we definitely have that. I see this as a major problem because I know some of the nurses will try and hide a machine if they have found one and liked it.

Yeah, I did not want to sound offensive, but I feel like they are putting a lot on our shoulders. I feel like I run around the entire shift and this just adds to the endless list of things I have to do. I heard CNAs used to be able to take blood sugars, which sounds so nice to me. I don't know this just seems over the top to me.

I work on a med/surg floor where I guess some CNAs complained that nurses abuse them and our manager has now made it where the RNs will be doing all vitals on top of everything else. Is this normal for other hospitals? I understand that everyone is busy, but CNAs used to be able to do so much more. Now at night, they will only be taking patients to the bathroom and changing patients, which the RNs do as well.

Keep positive thoughts. At least they let you know and you can move on.

Major bummer...I used to work there and I miss it so much. I was really hoping for an interview.

Which units and hospitals did every choose? I chose Grossmont and Memorial's Residency.

Still quiet for me too. Whoever gets called has to post. Lol

All of mine still say app received. I would at least like any update whether good or bad.

As I was leaving the interview, I stopped by the HR desk by the door and that is what she told me.

I was told that 195 were interviewed and there are 80 positions.

It didn't change, it just says applicant review still.

I applied to all but NICU. All of mine say application received. I am not sure how long it will take for them to look over all those apps. There's probably over a thousand overall.
