VCU CRNA DNAP 2021
Meanwhile, I'm a third-year student here and know of at least 3 people who came off from the waitlist into my cohort. And they're currently kicking *** ?

Should I get accepted to a CRNA program?
Current SRNA here (graduating this year). My biggest concern was my first degree's GPA as well, but not all CRNA programs put that emphasis on grades. Use the other avenues (letters of rec, personal statement, interview) to distinguish yourself and shine. I wouldn't heap on the excuses/explanations for past poor grades, unless they directly ask. Then be honest. Work hard in the unit, get to know your priorities, and flesh out why you want to become a CRNA. (CRNA school sucks no matter where you go, so you really need to want it!) Any program worth their salt should appreciate and acknowledge the academic and professional growth. I will also be 38 when I finish CRNA school! ?

CRNA Mills?
I know during the application process, it's basically a "somewhere, anywhere take me please!" type of feeling. BUT after witnessing and hearing the type of treatment my friends and former colleagues have experienced at some of these places....please know that you are also interviewing these places: for them to prove themselves a good fit for YOU. Red flag: fully front loaded programs. Ask for how many students they enroll per cycle and how many clinical positions they have open. These numbers don't usually match, which means they intend to admit more students than available clinical capacity.....=intentional failing out of students but thanks for the tuition $$$.

Nursing is the Biggest Mistake of My Life
Please don't give up. When I graduated 3 years ago, I went through a similar emotional breakdown to this. I live in a large city with a very extensive medical center, yet I still couldn't get the hospitals to call me back either. I actually even reached the second round interviews for the county hospital, before I was rejected. However, I called them back and asked if there any other opportunities for me, and I landed my first job about 3 weeks before the nurse residency program started (very last minute). Luckily now, I'm at my dream job and feel very happy with this career path. We all go through it and sometimes even for a bit after we pass NCLEX (some of my classmates had difficulty for a while longer than I did), but eventually everyone was hired and working by the end of the year.

University of Houston-Victoria Second Degree BSN 2012
I'm currently in the UHV second-degree BSN 2012 program and our class also raised similar concerns to our faculty in the beginning of the year. Their explanation stated that the TxBON follows the traditional cut-offs for calculating success percentage on NCLEX (since most programs start in the fall), whereas we start in the spring to allow us to graduate in the winter (ahead of most new grads so we can prepare for NCLEX and apply for residencies earlier). The previous class has been more successful than indicated on the website (I believe >80% passing rate?), but it has not been reflected due to most of the students from the previous class taking it after the cut off for 2011. I actually don't really understand about the numbers and cut-offs, but I've been reviewing NCLEX prep books alongside studying the content presented, and I feel confident that this program will prepare our class for success, IF (big IF) you are able to keep up. This is a rigorous program and the majority of our faculty are PhDs. I know for sure that a couple of them are also NCLEX question contributors, which makes for hard tests but good practice! This is also a new program so the professors are actually much more helpful and will reach out to individuals who may need additional attention, instead of kicking them to the curb for one poor performance or grade. If you have any other questions, hopefully we can answer them during orientation.

I've already signed up for the surscan drug testing over a week ago, but I have yet to hear from them and whenever I try to repeat the transaction, it displays an invalid vendor error. Is anyone else having a similar problem? I e-mailed the customer service, but it's hard to be patient since I will actually be out of town most of this month!

I had the same reservations about the program when I was researching choices in the Houston area, but it IS a relatively brand-new program with the same CCNE accreditation. Perhaps the students were ill-prepared for the pace of the program or elected to not take the exam, thereby lowering the average? However, when I take into consideration the cost and convenience of attending nursing school (already have enough debt from undergrad!), not to mention how much more quickly I'd be eligible for employment, I'm really hopeful for entrance into UHV.

nooo....I was afraid of that >_ Was the GPA requirement chiefly concerned with the pre-reqs (which doesn't concern me) ....or the cumulative GPA from my previous degree? (It was a few years ago...but ack not above 3.0)..... Thank you so much for enlightening us about the details!!! I've been sweating bullets so I'm fairly certain others have as well?

Oh goodness ...thank you for your prompt response. I was ready to cry, because I've already gotten jacked from one of my colleges messing up my transcript request and TWU refusing to take late transcripts Thank you very very much! I hope we hear good things for this upcoming session :)

This might sound like a really stupid question, but were we supposed to apply to the UH-V campus itself before submitting information to NursingCAS?? I've been reading past posts (found this site today! ack!) about entrance into this program and people were mentioning MYUHV? ....Could someone clarify this for me? Thank you!!:redbeathe
