  1. I wonder what you decided on.. Wow, what a difference a year makes!! I got the Turbo Jam Maximum Results and Elite Fat Burning Packages a couple of weeks ago. I LOVE them!! I actually look forward to working out..well, most of the time! The music is some of the best I've heard in a workout, Chalene and her team are very motivating and fun (my faves are Anna Rita and Mindy), and she has special features on her workout, such as Jamm'd, which is her version of Punk'd. My favorite thing is that she tells you mistakes still burn calories. When she tells you to dance, everyone does their own thing. I can DO these!! As far as calories, I'm burning the same as I do with Leslie's 4-miles. Can't tell you any results yet, but I'll post anything significant. I'm ready for the ball and Live! workouts!! :heartbeat
  2. Don't feel guilty! Congratulations!! I'm so excited for you! Go and celebrate!! I'll be sending vibes to the mailman for you, altbsn!
  3. I didn't get in. I'm pretty broken right now. Good luck to you guys.
  4. EEEEEEE!! Okay, NOW the nervousness is setting in!! I'll be sending happy thoughts and vibes for all of us! We've worked hard, and it's our time to shine!! Mail already passed here today, but I'll be checking on here every couple hours to see if you guys got anything!! :redbeathe:heartbeat:redbeathe:heartbeat
  5. When I saw her last summer, Mrs. P said letters would be mailed out in May. (Hopefully, EAAAAARLY May! ) I'm so nervous, you guys! For me, I'm equally as scared about financial aid. I'd gotten into my dream school a few years ago, and couldn't afford it. Are y'all from NOLA? I was born and raised there; now, living a couple hours away in Lafayette.
  6. Whew! Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I feel SO much better! :heartbeat
  7. I'm still stalking the mailman as well! Have you guys filled out the FAFSA yet? I'm such a procrastinator!!
  8. hi tumblinswiss!! I'm so sorry you were waitlisted! Did you apply for CARE or the normal BSN program? I applied for the CARE program--still haven't heard anything yet. Don't give up hope!! I was rejected from Johns Hopkins, wrote a letter asking for recondsideration and got in! (of course, I couldn't afford it..) Keep positive!
  9. Hi! Here's a good thread about LSUHSC: https://allnurses.com/forums/f150/lsuhsc-care-accelerated-bsn-program-applicants-graduates-216662.html Hopefully Ray can pop in and tell us how his second semester is going! I just mailed off my application today! The thing that scares me more than anything is how to afford the program. Keep in touch!!
  10. Hehe, the head of the CARE program beat you guys. Got an email about five minutes after I sent it. Sorry to have jumped the gun. Now I have to worry about the cover letter, letter of intent, and the other question. P.S. Ray, if you're reading this, I need to reply in the other thread, but I'm thinking of ya! Hope your first semester is going by smoothly and you're getting a bit of R&R time!! Started dissecting your cadaver yet? edit: For those hopeful CARE applicants, NO we DO NOT need the TEAS. :)
  11. Hi guys!! Called LSUHSC, the Student Affairs office didn't know, so the first thing I thought of was to pop on here and ask. I know all BSN students are required to take the TEAS test--do the CARE applicants take it as well? Thanks SO MUCH in advance!! Panicking over here--they just posted on the website today, and I have to work that day!! (plus, I'm 2 hours away in Lafayette!)
  12. Here's a great thread going on right now. Learned a lot from it. :) https://allnurses.com/forums/f50/getting-organized-239828.html
  13. I wouldn't sweat it. If it was from your early years, and you've shown vast improvement from then, they'll know "the real you." Take it from me. I literally had 19 W's on my transcript from the five years I spent on my first degree (also had 9 major changes, yikes!) From the time I started back in 2003 to the time I graduated in 2006, I had straight A's. I always made sure to include on my application why the W's/C's were there, and that I know where my mistakes were. Good luck!!
  14. Hi everybody!! Yay, other people to "nervous" with for a year! I'm HOPEFULLY starting next fall. Pretty frustrated with myself, as I finished my pre-reqs and first degree back in Fall 2006. I set my sights on a dream school, and got in, but didn't realize just how costly it would be (not just money-wise). So I feel like I've wasted so much precious time, and NOW another year of waiting.:trout: On the other hand, everything happens for a reason, right? This school is much more economically feasible (I'll still have to move out on my own though), and I can use the year to try and pay off bills/begin to save. I just can't wait--all these threads for those starting NS are great--I'm so excited for those starting just from reading them! So tell me a bit about yourselves! I'm Tanya, 29, from Louisiana. I'm in retail management, single, one-furkid, need to get out more often. Can't wait to get to know y'all! Have a great weekend!
  15. Hey Ray!!! Just wanted to bump up the thread and tell you I was thinking of you. Hope you had a great Family Day/Orientation yesterday. How did it go? I'm dying to hear details! Good luck on your first semester!!:smiley_aa:flowersfo
  16. hi rn1day08!! like Ray said, a 3.0 is the minimum. The head of the C.A.R.E. program told me the average for the entering class was a 3.4. Hey Ray! It won't affect the length of the program. Not sure if this is going to go in effect this fall or next, but here's the curriculum. Block One: (the same) Natural Science (Anatomy) Natural Science (Physiology) Intro to Professional Nursing Block Two: Foundations of Nursing Practice Foundations Simulation Lab Foundations Practicum Health Assessment Theory Health Assessment Lab Pharmacology Pathophysiology Block Three: Adult Health Nursing Adult Health Practicum Adult Health Simulation Laboratory Mental Health Nursing Mental Health Practicum Child Health Nursing Child Health Practicum Research in Nursing Block Four: Women's Health Women's Health Practicum Genetics Critical Care Nursing Critical Care Practicum Critical Care Simulation Lab Population Focused Nursing Population Focused Practicum Block Five: Perspectives in Professional Nursing Nursing Management in the Health Care System Nursing Management Practicum Gerontology Ethics and Legal Issues or Elective Hope that helps!! I'll go through my packet a.s.a.p. and let you know if I see anything else! Take care, Tanya
  17. Hey guys! Went to visit the SON yesterday and met with the head of the C.A.R.E. program. Wanted to give you guys a heads up. They're going through a MAJOR revamp of the program. Give it about a week and it will be on the website. Also, they are eliminating spring entrance (I'm SO bummed about this because I've waited so long to start nursing school, and I feel the longer I sit out, the more pre-reqs I forget! On the other hand, I can save more money--hopefully!) Work's been nuts the last few days. Tomorrow night I'll try and post the new curriculum for you guys.
  18. Hey Ray!! Thanks so much for all the info! You really did help!! CRNA is an ultimate goal of mine too! I'll be emailing Monday to try and get a day to meet her. I think LSUHSC is the best thing for me. Hopkins is SOO expensive and with Drexel or USA, it'd be nice to be done in a year, but I want to keep my grades up. Even though my friends and family are just about gone after Katrina, my heart still belongs in NOLA. Take care and keep me updated on how you like it!
  19. Thanks SO much, Karen!! :blushkiss This site (and the videos you posted), motivate me to finally stop procrastinating and get in nursing school. Here's a video one of these linked to, and it cracked me up..Bringing Patients Back (a Justin Timberlake parody). Enjoy! sFYf6kiA1B0
  20. Congrats to everyone who got in for the fall!! I've been trying to decide which nursing school to go to for a year now, and am tired of putting things off. Wish I would have decided this in time for the fall semester, but I'll definitely be putting my application in as soon as possible for the CARE program's Spring semester. Anyone else? (Is there a large entering class in the spring? It feels like everyone goes for fall) Still conflicted. Such a huge part of me wants to return to the town I was born and raised in (I'm now living two hours away in Lafayette). Another part wonders if I have to move away from my parents and brother, why not see the rest of the country. Two years or one year? Gah. It's all making me crazy! :trout: Is the LSU nursing school back to it's original state? Are they still making repairs? One other thing. The letter you have to write requesting admission to the CARE program with your application. How formal did you guys make it? How different is it going to be from your goal statement on the application? I'd be grateful for ANY words of wisdom/tidbits you guys have on these things or the program.:heartbeat
  21. Hi ICU2CRNA!!! Thanks so much for everything and congrats on breezing through CRNA school! A 4.0 is amazing!! Just realized today that Hopkins only admits students in the fall. I don't know if I could get the financial aid by this fall, and I really don't want to put off nursing school yet another year (I'd be doing the traditional 2-year option). I'm just so lost you guys. It's like I finally figured out what I want to do with my life, but making so many mistakes in my past (not following up on identity theft among them) is holding me back. Plus the decision of one-year vs two year/in-state vs out-of-state is killing me. Sorry for the vent. I have no idea what to do at this point. :uhoh21:
  22. jahra!! Another VF'er!! Anyways, I was very curious about TJ, heard great things, but there's also a pretty big thread on VF about those who DON'T like it. What ultimately saved me from buying these were people telling me it's kickboxing meet dancing. I am VERY choreographically challenged, so pffft. I've lost 22 pounds since April 5th. I've been doing Nutrisystem and working out for the first time in more than four years. The videos I've been doing the most? Leslie Sansone's Walk Away the Pounds. She has a new informercial out for WalkSlim. These are workouts where she does the usual walking, but inserts jogging intervals in there. I'm addicted to the 4-mile!! It's done in about 50 minutes, and I burn between 400 and 450 calories a workout! I also do a bit of Tamilee Webb's Tighter Assets Cardio Blast, Jillian Michaels' Workout for Beginners (a circuit workout, 6 intevals of 30 seconds of cardio followed by 3 weighted workouts). Speaking of weights, getting into Jari Love's Get Ripped. Good luck! :balloons:
  23. Hi anc33!! Thanks so much for the advice! That's the awesome thing about nursing--there are so many fields and things to do. Drug research sounds very interesting. At this point, CRNA is definitely a goal for me. I've researched and talked to people. Of course, I want to actually spend some time shadowing to make sure it's for me. Have a great day, guys! I REALLY do appreciate the help!
  24. Hi ready4crna! Yes, you have helped more than you know!! Thank you SO much for the clarification!!:heartbeat When I went to Accepted Students Day at Hopkins, there was a panel forum. One person said they would be starting UMAB's CRNA program that fall, and that there was an arrangement between the two schools. I can't believe no one corrected this person! Congrats on getting in and going through CRNA school!! I wish you the best of luck!! :balloons:
  25. Thanks SO much for replying, piper!! I recently came back to AllNurses, and when I searched Drexel Ace, saw your posts from when you were there, and followed it up to your acceptance in CRNA school. Congrats!! :monkeydance: Would you do Drexel again? Do you think it's better to "get in and get out," or go with the two-year to concentrate on my grades? I know you got great grades in the program, but would you say that's the exception and not the norm with the ACE program? I REALLY appreciate your time, patience and wisdom! :thankya: :bowingpur
