As a fellow Chemeketa student, I can tell you what the school says on the matter. The drug screen before the start of each year is required for everyone, but the school reserves the right to test at random or if they feel there is cause on a student by student basis. The clinical sites arranged by the school also have the right to request additional drug tests prior to or during your rotation. On a side note, I can tell you I am also employed by a hospital in the Willamette Valley and our facility stipulates that although marijuana is legal according to Oregon state law, it is NOT legal by federal standards, and since my facility receives federal funding, a drug screen positive for marijuana is a fireable offense. I expect many if not most facilities have a similar policy.

The help desk assures me they are working on one and it should hopefully be out in a few weeks. I too am suffering without the app on my phone. [emoji25]

I asked in site feedback about the app disappearing from the Apple Store. They said they do not currently have a mobile app. (This was earlier today.) I hope it comes back soon!

Calendars 5 syncs your Google calendar to the app, color coding and all. I've used it forever now, it seems. It has a cost to it, but I think it's worth every penny.

The nursing program itself is a specific number of credits per term. One term may be 11 credits, while another may be 9. The classes are all scheduled for the entire program; there's no way to pick and choose your schedule. Some days class will start at 0800, others you may need to be at a clinical site by 0600. Many people have successfully completed the program as parents, single parents, and even working full-time. Best of luck to you!

75% exam average for my program. Papers and projects didn't count unless you reached the exam minimum. Clinical is pass/fail. Math test each term is 100% to pass with 3 attempts. Students who didn't reach that goal are kicked out of the program and have the option to apply for re-entry the following year.

I toured a couple model homes, went out for lunch, and went to the movies. I test tomorrow as well. Good luck to you!!!

GrnTea, I've stumbled across your advice on these threads many times in the last few years. Your words have never steered me wrong, and I plan to use this advice as I prepare to take my NCLEX-PN on 7/9. I just wanted to say a heartfelt "Thank you" from the Pacific Northwest. Thank you!! :)

A really good planner! There are some additional texts and things that helped some students, but didn't help others. Really, my advice is to enjoy your summer. Make sure you meet all the deadlines for immunizations and such. You'll have a better idea of what will work for YOU after the first week. 2nd year students will be available for advice, and if you create a FB page, it's not a bad idea to invite a couple 2nd years to it. That really helps when it's Sunday evening (or 2 am) and you need an answer, but know you can't get ahold of an instructor. :)

Upon closer reading, I won't have access to my 2nd year LaunchPad until I've submitted my acceptance letter. That is likely the same for the newly accepted 1st year students.

My access to the 1st year LaunchPad started about 30 minutes prior to getting the emailed acceptance letter. However, I received my letter of acceptance to 2nd year yesterday, and have yet to have access to the 2nd year LaunchPad. I plan to give it a couple days and will contact Chemeketa Monday if I still can't view the course.

Make certain that once the FB page is created that it is set to 'secret'. Then it becomes invite only and people can't see posts or tags unless they're part of the group. :)

Once you get accepted, you will have access to the Nursing forum on Blackboard. You will get announcements about things like uniforms and texts for sale through that. :)

I completely understand!! It's SO hard to wait, especially when the trend the last few years pointed to yesterday being a good bet for emails to go out.

You are very welcome. I know how hard it is to wait, and I truly expected today to have been 'the day'. I can say with certainty that the Chemeketa program is worth the wait!!! :)

The program at Chemeketa is really well organized. However, there is a lot going on for the current nursing students wrapping up the year. Have hope!!

There are other classes available to bump you to 12 credits. One is strategies for success. Another is supervised practice. Often people add a PE course or something in there. The credits vary per term, but there is always something to add into your schedule to get to full time status. There is also a mentoring program, where you will be matched up with a 2nd year student to help you navigate the first year. :) That helps take some of the stress off, I think.

You can NOT go by the schedule showing on the course list. Do NOT plan your life by it. You can expect commitments Monday through Friday, sometimes 8-4, sometimes 8-12, sometimes just a random time for a checkoff, and clinicals vary per site/instructor. I don't think I can post the clinical sites; sorry. The instructors will give you a term calendar at Orientation. The schedule my class followed last fall may be hugely different than the proposed schedule for this fall. I know this seems very unhelpful, but it's best to go in not knowing, than to think you know and for it to be wrong. Good luck to you! Acceptance letters should be soon, right? :)

Unfortunately, the schedule varies and is not predictable. The school will provide a schedule at the beginning of the term. Some days classes are 8-4, others 8-12. Some clinical days are 8 hours, others 10, others 12. This may depend on the clinical site, the term you are in, and the overall ability of the school to maximize their scheduling. They do a fantastic job of laying it all out for you as much as possible, but you WILL need to allow for some flexibility in your schedule.
