1. haha I remembered that question on Kaplan. But yeah it does make sense though. I guess with standard precautions it is good enough to protect the pregnant RN.
2. Thank you! I will pray for you to pass on your exam, next week right? I know you'll pass, we have almost similar Kaplan qbank/qtrainer scores. (you did better lol). Uhm yeah in my opinion NCLEX is harder, but not so much. Idk hard to explain. Like the question is kinda like how Kaplan does it but the choices makes it hard. In Kaplan, you know somewhat right away which one is the right answer after you've eliminated a few. On the exam, it's a bit more difficult than that. Just a bit though. Especially the priority questions which was ALOT lol. For SATA's...I had quite a few. But If you break it down like how Kaplan does it (true/false) it shouldn't be no problem. It seemed simple enough. Unlike the SATA's on the alternate type quiz in Kaplan. Anyways goodluck. Don't cram. Rest tomorrow. Just read your rationales and read the nclex review sheet on this site. Trust me, NCLEX will throw questions from every angle. Like I think only 1/4 of the stuff I studied was on it...Work on the strategies. Goodluck!!!!
3. goodluck lc1028!! I passed my exam today, well unofficially. Got the good pop up. We went thru the same kind of training with Kaplan so I know you'll pass too!! good luck!
4. yes you passed. I took the NCLEX today and got the good pop too. Don't doubt it because last time I did the PVT trick, it went to CC page and I really did fail.
5. Doesn't matter if you get it wrong. What's important is for you to read the rationale, find out why you got it wrong and go from there. Keep going at it. I did Kaplan too and my 1st qbank scores weren't good either. Trust me, just keep at it and always read the rationale. Something will click inside of you and you'll get the flow of how Kaplan should be answered. Your scores will get better.
6. Hey guys, I took the exam today at 2 pm. Stopped at 84 with ALOT of SATA's (I was like why this many??) probably like 15-20. I had 3 exhibits, 1 put in order, NO calculations! Lots of meds like 10. I only knew 3 of the medications...(note: I studied ALOT of meds). I approached the two hour mandatory break around #82, but I was like I can still handle it. Clicked next, got hit with a SATA and then next again and a somewhat easy question...then it went BLUE SCREEN. My heart sunk, I was thinking I failed it bad. I felt I was guessing my way out. NCLEX is a step harder than Kaplan. But I felt ready with the type of questions. Like the flow of it is nearly like Kaplan but harder. Alas I drove home very weak. Like I felt so mentally fatigued... But I thought to myself, if I failed, that meant I did better last time because last time I had 135 questions and failed. This time was 84. Then I realized I had no calculation questions!! which means I didn't approach that low level question. Buuut I thought about the last question and it seemed simple enough. Not too easy but not difficult. I checked it and I was correct but why did it stop then? Shouldn't it give more questions? It couldn't have decided if I pass or fail with that question. You can see the throught process I had. Got home, didn't even got out of the car..picked up my ipod and I was within range of my home wifi. Did the PVT trick...and I got the GOOD POP UP! I got teary eyed and just said thank you God. I did it 10 more times and its still the Good pop up. I know its not official but I know the PVT is truth. Last time i did it, it went straight to CC page and failed. Thank you allnurses! this site have been a great help!
7. Wow good job! that means were doing something right? right? I did take it easy today, but now I want to read the rationales from QT4-7 and then my pharma notes that I did and also read half of the study guide found on this site. I'll head in early to the test center early tomorrow. It's a 45 min drive. I can just review there. Nothing big, just lab values and hopefully pass that exam at 75 questions. Right now, I feel almost TOO relaxed, like I should worry more lol. But I know I did my part, God will do the rest. I'll let you guys know the results tomorrow. For now I'm going to review a bit.
8. Thank you guys! I really appreciate it. My friend who passed first time using Kaplan and who is now working, told me today that the hospital he works at (and near my place, nice new hospital) is hiring on their Med surg/ICU unit and i should hurry up LOL. Ohh maan is this what God has planned?? I sure hope so, and I'll find out friday. Oh man the pressure. @lc1028: I'm rationalizing QT7 right now, and I must say I am making simple mistakes because I was reading too fast. About question 150 onwards I was just tired with it! Questions where I should know the answer right away, I missed it because I was fatigued from taking questions this many. I pray that I pass with 75 questions, because I'll have a hard time if this takes too long. But if it does go to 265 I'll be ready. I just need to take frequent breaks. I hope they don't mind me raising my hand a lot of times lol.
9. Update: QT6 - 65% QT7 - 60% Oh man anxiety is building up. I'm one day away!!! my last night of full study tonight! Please pray for me passing this Friday!!
10. I'm reviewing ALL the rationales i've written down doing all the Qbanks and Qtrainers 1-6. I will also review my pharma and then I will be doing QT7 tonight. (about 2 hours from now). I was planning to do it yesterday but I just felt fatigued and not really up for it. It's 265 questions so definitely need to be in top form. I did however focused on SATA's, (the alternate type questions on the Kaplan thing). Did horrible!! I really need to take my time to answer those type of questions. But you can't fully prepare yourself for SATA's. Just gotta take it as we go. I also did Exam cram questions last night. I scored 69 out of 100. It felt weird because it was so easily worded and right on point. Unlike Kaplan where you have to critically think your way to answer correctly. I'll stick with qbanks and qt7 till then. The higher the difficulty the better it prepares you. Your scores are real good. Better than mine! make sure you review the rationales and ALSO review why you picked the wrong answer and not the correct one. But yeah, better do your Qtrainers. Unless your fast in doing rationales unlike me lol. Let's keep updating. I'm testing friday...I was super close to rescheduling it. But the next available date is Feb 11 which is too far away. My gf says, i shouldn't because I'll overstudy and thats not good. She says better take it why everything is still fresh. So yeah QT7 tonight!
11. ahh it's getting closer and closer now....i hope we all pass!!
12. I sure hope were part of those 98% people that will pass with Kaplan. My friend did the live class Kaplan and he had a classmate who was doing very good on her qtrainers and qbanks while he was doing average. Long story short, he passed and his classmate failed. But yeah it is up to God at this point. Thank you for your prayer
13. wow your scores are good! Yeah I think the sample tests are much like the nclex. But also I think QT6 is like it as well. I know QT7 will really signify if were ready or not. Try doing sample test 2. I did horrible on that one, i eliminated 2 answers and out of the 2 left i picked the wrong one We can do this!
14. thank you guys for all your encouragement posts. I did my QT6 last night and got 65.5%!! I was so surprised because I thought I was doing so horrible and feeling fatigued after the first 100 which isn't good if fate wanted me to answer all 265. But none the less I'm so happy that I got that high of a score. Which means I'm doing something right lol. Now I went to church today, asked for guidance for this week. Now I have to rationalize all 200 questions tonight. How fun lol. I plan on probably doing QT7 tomorrow because it takes me a day to rationalize all those questions. Mon - QT7 Tue - rationalization Wed - overall review + pharma review Thurs - absolute rest day Fri - Judgement day I will also practice with Kaplan's SATA's (Select all that apply questions) on the Alternate type quiz section on Kaplan tonight. Also some on my Saunder's book.
15. ahh I hope we both pass next week. Are you done with everything in Kaplan? I'm taking my QT6 right now. Taking a 5 min break lol.
16. congratulations, I want to feel how your feeling right now. Must feel amazing to be done for life with this exam :)
17. Hello, I'm about to take my NCLEX next friday (Feb 03). This will be my 2nd time taking the exam. I failed the first time using just Saunders 5th edition. I know deep down I failed because I took the exam and my review lightly. This time, it took me 4 months and I took Kaplan. All my friends and almost all the success stories I've read in this forum took Kaplan and passed. I did all I can this time. Gave up almost 3 months of nonstop everyday review. I took the online review by Kaplan, answered 100% of my Qbanks. Wrote down every rationale from every qbanks/qtrainer that i didn't know right or wrong and reviewed them every other day. Diagnostic - with no review whatsoever 53% QT1 - 60% QT2 - 57% QT3 - 50% QT4 - 53% QT5 - 60% Qbank 100% complete - 58% Sample test 1: 54% Sample test 2: 48% Sample test 3: 83% **I swear sample test 1 and 2 mostly resembles NCLEX in my opinion. Maybe QT6 and 7 too, I'll find out. Readiness test - 54% (I hurried through it because it was required to be finished by the last day of review. Shouldn't have though I'm about to take my QT6 after writing this then QT 7 on Tuesday, then just taper down with my review on Wednesday and take a whole day break Thursday then showdown on Friday. I've been feeling good and ready till I read a few recent posts from people who took Kaplan and failed. It brought me back to earth. What if I fail again? Everything is riding on me passing and finally getting a job and move on with my life. I'm sure all of us share the same background story. Truth be told, I'm scared to see that CC page again when doing the PVT. I have a phobia of that incident. I wish I didn't read the stories of people that failed with Kaplan.. My reason for writing this is for advice and guidance. What should I do? I know that if I have this mentality, I will surely succumb to failure next week. I know also that there's no way you can fully prepare for this exam. For those that have passed with Kaplan, what did you do when you were just hours away from taking that exam. Did you feel ready? confident? did the decision tree worked for you? Did the qbanks and qtrainers prepare you? is it easier or harder than the nclex? Also is it wise for me to plan on taking about 2 hours for the first 75 questions? I don't do well in such long periods of concentrations. If i go past 75, i need frequent breaks to keep on going. Please any opinions or advice, I will be truly grateful for. I can not afford to fail again. I want to move on with my life. With God's help I know he'll guide me. But what can I do to avoid these feelings of doubt in myself.
18. aww man I was thinking of using that approach as well. Focus mainly on the first 75 questions. But yeah I guess that's a bad idea. I'm a slow test taker too. Oh man I need to answer correctly with using as little time as possible. Thank you. I feel your pain, I felt the first time too and this would be my 2nd attempt. :/
19. do you what you did wrong? or where you were lacking in terms of Kaplan? Cuz your scores are really good if your scoring that high in Kaplan.
20. wow are you sure you failed? did you try the PVT? maan you got me nervous now. I'm testing next friday and i did Kaplan too...
21. Remember for PPE is that gown FIRST! then mask or goggles then GLOVES LAST!! For removing them some say gloves first but (according to Kaplan) UNTIE GOWN FIRST!! then gloves then mask and then gown. LOL putting water on his/her perineum? I think it's turning on the faucet to facilitate urge to void. Hearing water drops makes you pee doesn't it? There are other ways too such as Crede's Maneuver. Pushing on the bladder to facilitate voiding
22. hmm I guess if put that way, that sort of makes sense. Thanks.
23. but isn't that thinking your way into the question? I mean choice 3 has that fact included in the answer which is he is CMV negative. Idk. This is what I don't like about Kaplan sometimes. Their rationales sometimes are lacking
24. the rn makes nursing assignments for the burn unit. which of the following indicates the most appropriate assignment for a client with a positive cytomegalovirus (cmv) titer?

1. a nurse with an upper respiratory infection.

2. a young nurse who is 8 weeks pregnant.

3. a male nurse who is cmv-negative.

4. an older nurse with 30 years of experience.

strategy: determine the nurse with the least risk. (1) those with a cytomegalovirus-positive titer are often immunosuppressed clients who should be protected from other pathogens (2) cmv is fetotoxic; should inform client of risks (3) this nurse is at increased risk for developing the disease (4) correct--most appropriate option due to decreased risk a question in kaplan. i answered 3 but why is it wrong? why is the male nurse not accepted? he's cmv negative. isn't the older nurse slightly more at risk?
25. Oh wow, your probably feeling the pressure right now. I know I am. What are your scores for your Qbank and Qtrainers? I won't hesitate to reschedule if I do bad on qtrainer 6 or 7. My Qbank right now is 50% completed and 56% average score :/ I plan on getting 60% at the end of this. Also do you use the decision tree? I find it hard to use sometimes especially if the questions goes immediately to step 5 which is evaluate the outcome.
