  1. Hi everyone! I just got accepted for May 2015 start and is debating between UTA and Chamberlain. How is the school load manageable while working full time 3 12's night time and taking two classes at the same time? I want to be able to finish as soon as possible! I received my RN to BSN through them and doubled on classes as well and found it manageable. After reading some previous post....what is the camera for? Is it for examination proctoring? Any insight would be great thank you!!
  2. Hello Everyone! I have been writing several recommendation letters recently for the July 2015 Residency Cohort and remembered relying on these forums heavily when I was applying for the Feb 2013 cohort, therefore I wanted to come back on here to see what has changed! I do notice that the available spots are getting slimmer and slimmer even though we are in dire need of nurses but it is due to the number of preceptors available as well as balancing out the ratio of new nurses to experience nurses on the floor at once. Do not get discouraged if you are starting off with an ADN they hire just about evenly with BSN but if you do have an ADN make sure you reiterate your plans on going back for your BSN and if you have already been accepted in to a RN to BSN program that is even better. Interview tips: Look over Seton Mission and Values! Draw up several clinical experiences that stands out to you because you will be asked about that example: when was a time you have shown leadership? What is your strength and weakness? If you can describe yourself in 3 words what are they? You will be given scenarios as in if you do not understand a certain procedure or protocol, what would you do and who would you turn too for help? Overall be yourself! They are always looking for the perfect fit for the unit so attitude is key! Look at the different certification that pertains to the specialty unit that you will be interviewing for, it will show your interest and your knowledge for that unit! Makes you very appealing! Example: ICU: the CCRN certification, ER: CEN certification, Peds: CPN certified Pediatric Nurse and so forth. I do believe it doesn't matter whether you are locally or from out of state it just matters how you interview and definitely going to the open house is the hugest difference but don't be discouraged cause a fair number of people from my cohort were from out of state and was not able to attend the open house but they did make the effort to come to Austin on a different time and came up to the hospital of their interest found the managers and spoke directly with them. Overall, I wish everyone luck and that Seton is an amazing network to work for! I myself started off with an ADN, came from out of town and had never stepped foot into a Seton facility but was still offered a spot! So don't feel discouraged, everyone has a fair equal chance!!
  3. You will get paid your base hourly wage í ½í¸Š
  4. Yeah you are absolutely right Chamberlain is the best way to go overall!! Thank you for your input!
  5. I got my BSN through UTA as well :) but you said now they offer one class a time but would that even qualify for financial aid..and I would go ahead and assume that will be out of the 24 month finishing time frame as well?
  6. Quite honestly it may have been more manageable for me because Brit lit was the only gen req I had to take. I was fortunate enough that previous works was transferrable. Professional Nursing and Health Promotions, Holistic health assessment and vulnerable populations I took by themselves. I doubled up on the rest Nursing research with Co-Op nursing work experience, holistic care of older adult and nursing management, and then british literature and capstone. I have seen other coworkers gone through other programs but I have nothing but great stuff to say about UTA granted their admissions department and advisors maybe difficult to get a hold of at times but their RN to BSN program is on point and is one of the cheaper alternatives compared to other programs for the credibility of the name. Feel free to PM if you have anymore questions :)
  7. I am starting in May too! Just out of curiosity did you apply to UTA as well and if so what made you chose Chamberlain over that considering all the local state school we have here. I feel as if I have been battling internally trying to figure out if employers would care in the end as long as we have our certifications?
  8. I just graduated the program Dec 2014 and started back in Jan 2014. I started off taking one class at a time and ended up doubling classes all the way till the end because I really wanted to get done within one year. Most classes was not hard at all just very tedious work just follow the rubrics to the tee as you are writing up the assignments you'll be fine. The grading is fairly laid back from my experience except for nursing research the only B I got throughout the program. Nursing research was a pain...it is trial and error and luck all rolled into a course either way you''l eventually move on. Capstone wise....save your powerpoint presentation from management!! I used the same powerpoint presentation but just tweaked it to comply with the rubric requirement and I made an A. It still comprised of you logging your weekly experience like the cooperative nursing elective course. You submit your updated resume with your graduation date as you have done with past courses. Overall, if you reuse that powerpoint it will save you a lot of headache and make capstone much easier! The discussion requirement is just the same as all other courses. A few posts back someone listed the easiest to hardest class for the program. That was fairly accurate but unfortunately due to the availability of some classes you had no choice but to double up unless you were okay with dragging it out but it is doable!
  9. Hello all! For those who applied but did their RN to BSN at UTA, was the admission requirment different? I talked to a program specialist and she told me they didn't require some of the stuff listed if we are previous UTA alumnis. Can anyone provide some insight into that as well as how hard was it to get in? It seems as if everyone applied has gotten in because I am also looking at Chamberlain college as well.
  10. Hello all, I just talked to the specialist about the FNP program online and she said that the requirement is different for the alumni whom have done the RN to BSN program. How so is it different can anyone be able to go into details about that? She mentioned how we wont need reference letters and some other stuff. Also, for the GPA do they calculate for the BSN portion courses or the last 60 hours? Quite honestly not a fan of having to take the GRE at all. So far it seems as if everyone has been accepted with no rejections? Thanks in advance!
  11. Wow, it has been awhile since I been on here and was receiving emails about this forum! To be honest, Dell have 20 spots available for Residency is a miracle! Last year during my co hort there were only 4 spots at most. My best advice is don't be shy! If you have a unit in mind, go up to the unit and go find the managers to make yourself stand out and see if you can set up a shadow date. Sometime you maybe able to shadow on the spot! So good luck everyone! Seton is an amazing network to work with :)
  12. I would agree with Shiner50 mine was 45 minutes some was close than hour but do be prepared to stay after a little bit to tour the units to talk to the already working employees and some of the versant nurses there ..I stayed for about 2 hours after one of my interview and shadowed a nurse so ladies have a pair of flats ready in the car or don't go to high heels. :) best of luck! Prepare to answer questions on strengths weakness , scenario questions on what would you do if you came across a rude Doctor telling you to do something you are not within scope as well as handling difficult patients
  13. I work on the 6th floor at Main and from what I was told they are hiring 8 cohorts on my ortho/neuro floor so if anyone is interested its a safe bet to apply for that floor! Its a busy floor but you for sure learn ALOT of things!! But hang in there the whole process is a long process but worth it in the end. Seton treats their nurses very WELL!
  14. Oh man! There is so much to do! Definitely you have to try Salt Licks BBQ..it made it on to the food/travel channel quite a few times. Definitely find the food trucks located randomly across town....but it isnt spring break without some alcohol filled nights so check out 6th street for the night life....and after 2am around the corners are food trucks ...must try! :) I hope this helps...a little bit
  15. I know exactly what you mean!! It's even harder when you fought so hard to get a job and now that the hard part of getting a job is over and one is waiting..this happens equals 10x's more frustrating!
  16. I know me either! but some of my classmate has though...but it would be my application to be messed up! called the BON and they said my school code is wrong...which I find insane considering I chose my school from a drop down list but yet the code assigned to it is wrong!!! So I have to email them and wait for them to process it which they have yet still to do and wait for my school to approve and email back the BON. A LONG UGLY PROCESS!!! And Seton wants testing to be done by the 25th!!! That is cutting it toooo close for my books!!! So I would called the BON and ask what is the hold up!
  17. Oh thank you for passing that info along!! Man that means testing centers will be swamped! Seton wants licensure by the 25th if possible! :/
  18. Has anyone receive their ATT yet? It is near impossible to get through to the BON when I call them...I am almost close to driving up to the office. This coming week will be marked as the third week since our official grades has been posted. My nerves are killing me!
  19. Yay! Congrats!! Yup now the challenge of nclex is the topic now until now and than!!
  20. LOL that's why I stuck to the north side area! Good luck with apartment hunting :)
  21. Lol experience or not I'm right beside you my student loans doesn't care they just want to be paid sad but true lol how has apartment hunting going! I got something up north cause downtown is too expensive and I tend to like the suburban area more.
  22. Ohh that's super good to know that previous experience will be considered in factor in pay that just made my day a bit better! But that would be awesome for orientation the first couple days better than nothing! :)
  23. Yay!! See I knew you would!!! I hope we still get to train together even though we are on different units :) lmk if you get your offer letter first I wanna see if we get the same rates!!! Congrats!!! I wonder if anybody else has gotten offer from seton cause this thread has been quiet!
  24. No it doesn't matte whether it is online or classroom, I personally did online just cause you can go at your own pace and review everything when you want to go back to do so.
  25. I was suppose to interview in person next Thursday but declined the interview because I got offered a position with Seton. But I do wish you luck!!
