How to get a job as a PCT
I have 0 experience as a PCA or PCT, will just start working on my CNA and my nursing pre classes this semester. I started my first week at my first health care company, I applied for first time and got hired the same day, maybe because they were needing people so bad at the moment. I walked in and talked to the office supervisior about my desire of becoming a RN and working wt sick people, she just smiled at me and said she would get in touched with me, and luckily called me back the same day and gave me all the paperwork i guess i didnt have an interview. I started my training same day (working only 1 week ). I think the key is to show as much as enthusiasm and eagerness you got. Tell them that you have a huge passion for your career and you cannot wait to help sick people, thats what i did.

How much?
I am a new unexperienced PCA which is the same as PCT. I am starting taking my pre-classes for nursing and also working on my CNA, so I thought it would be a good idea to start making as much experience as needed once I graduate from school. I got hired the same day I applied for the first healh care company I work at right now ( 1 week). I walked in the office and explained about my desire of becoming a RN and really wanted to start working with patients eventhough I have 0 experience. They are starting me at $10.86/hr, some places here in my town are starting at $8.00, $9.00 depending on your experience, I think i was lucky to get it for my first time, they will be helping me with my school schedule. My supervisor let me know, she heard really good comments about me from my patients, she encourages me that i will be a great nurse, i just hope i will.

I felt so touched today
I am a new PCA going to college this semester and starting my pre requisite classes for nursing and also will work on my CNA. Right now, I am a new hire at a healh care agency so i can get as much experience as i need once i graduate from college. I have one week working with elders, my first day was helping a lady getting a shower and I did it pretty good. Yesterday, I walked into my new lady's house, talked to his son and introduced my self to him. I couldnt see anyone else except for him as i was walking in. I asked if his mom was at home and he said yeah she is there sitting in the couch next to you, however I did not noticed she was sitting there since i didn't see any movement at all, when I saw her i felt very touched, it was like seing my grandmother in her who passed away few years ago, my eyes watered a little bit and remembered i had to control myself, fortunatelly his son didn't noticed it since i was facing the 95 yr old lady. She was sitting there with her eyes closed, i got on my knees and started to talk to her but no answers from her at all. This first week was very touching to me, I am becoming more compasionate for people especially for the elders. I am blessed for being healthy and able to help this people. I am enjoying helping them and at the same time feeling sad to face suffering in them. What can I do to not involve my feelings at work? is there anyway i can see this as a only job and not as something that affects my feelings?

Pre-reqs This Fall
I am also nervous about starting the pre nursing prog, I have a AAS in Business but changed careers. Good luck in your studies.

CNA first then RN after????
so having a CNA is part of the pre requisite classes before applying for RN?

New pre nursing student

Thinking of quitting nursing program...
"And HOW DO YOU TELL YOUR PARENTS YOU'RE QUITTING THEIR DREAM?!" It seems like you hate this career, if you dont like something it will be hard for you to acomplish someelse's dreams and not yours. I think if you feel you dislike nursing, you should quit now.

Going for it but scared...
Just give your best, I am also starting taking my pre requistes this August. Honestly i am not scared but a little nervous by all the comments i heard about how hard the nursing program is, but you know what we have to trust in ourselves we can do it, please please dont let others intimidate you rather take it as an advice. we all have different personalities, strenghts, capabilites. Therefore, if someelse fails doing something doesnt mean you will aslo fail. It is all up to you, I know you can do if you really have the desire to fulfill your dreams. good luck in your studies.

New pre nursing student
Hi nurses and future nurses, I am a new member at this thread. I am currently 24 yr, have 2 semesters left to finish a BAS in Business Management and I was laid off almost 2 months ago, I got really dissapointed of not being able to get al least a call after having applied about 100 online jobs and others. When I just started college back in 06 I had enrolled myself for the nursing program but got discouraged by others saying that the nursing program was really hard and a gave it up without giving a try and changed it for the business career which was easier. Being a nurse has always been in the back of my mind; these 2 months I havent been doing anything helped me realise that I am ready to pusue my dream of become a nurse, I know it will be hard but i will not give it up this time, I am so eager to fulfill my real dream. I will start taking my pre-requisite classes on August, and one thing I got a job as a personal care attendant at an agency and will work there as a CNA once i get my liscence. I know this career change will be totally different from my business degree, but honestly I have never enjoyed my business job as I was supposed to, I get so bored being closed in a four wall building and not interacting with other people rather than my coworkers. I look forward hear your opinion.
