JJC Pre Nursing Students - Anyone else out there?
Did anyone meet with a nursing advisor? I know its recommended to do so but my schedule is crazy hectic and I didn't know if I could go a semester or two without meeting with one?

LPN or RN any difference?
I just transferred to community college and I am just taking some general classes because I have to take a math placement test. However, the community college I am going to offers an LPN or RN program. I know the RN is a year shorter but is there any difference? I know both programs are strenuous but I was thinking of completing the LPN then finding an LPN to RN program online?? I am so new to all this nursing stuff, so I wouldn't know. I am also a single mother trying to find out if this career is best for me and my family. I would have support from friends and family but would pretty much be on my own since my mom who was my main support is now working two jobs and going to school as well.

Going for it but scared...
After messing around in school on and off for the past five years I am registered this fall at my community college for nursing. I am so scared because I read and hear so many different things about nursing school. I like medicine and love helping people in whatever way I can. My mom says I can't do it but I have two boys that I have to provide a life for. Its all the benefits of nursing that draws me to it and I could care less about the money. In my opinion every one is over worker and under paid at some point. I'm hoping that I can apply to the program next fall since I am just starting out but even though I'm scared to stuff I'm hoping that I am good enough to be in this field. Anyone taking pre-reqs or already in the nursing program any advice on how to survive nursing school with kids would be great!

I knew I could do it!
Congrats that's amazing!!! Good luck to you!

Nursing or Teaching?!?!
Yes I am definitely feeling burnt out from working with children and having my own children! I am definitely trying to spend more and more time on this site to get an insight to the profession. I am registered for one class this fall until I talk with a nursing advisor.

Nursing or Teaching?!?!
Right now I am in a early childhood education program. I have always loved children but ever since I had my first son three years ago I'm slowly losing interest in working with children. I am 22 a single mom of two boys ages 2 1/2 and 7 months. Nursing has always been in the back of my mind and I love the flexibility, stability, and opportunities with a nursing career. Right now I'm struggling between the two. I've maxed out the amount of student loans I can take out as a undergraduate (I was being stupid about school). My only option is community college. I have already registered to start pre-reqs for nursing at my local community college. Everyone talks about how hard nursing school is and I can imagine because nothing in life is easy. Right now I have a job working nights and a day job that's extremely flexible. Right now I am tired of messing around and want to build a life for me and my boys. While the money is good for nursing I assume its not what draws me to it. I love to help people and find medicine interesting. I just don't know if I would be good at because my mom has always told me she doesn't think I would make a good nurse. Anyone already in the process of going to nursing school that can give me some insight?!?!? Thanks!

Single Moms and Nursing Schools
Hi Everyone! I have been on this board a few times before inquiring about nursing as a career. I was going to Kaplan University Online for medical assisting and that was by far the biggest mistake of my life. I wasted so much time and energy on that program but I am done beating myself up about it. I am attempting to start at College of DuPage this summer and I have been back and forth about actually pursuing nursing as a career. I am a single mother of a 1 1/2 year old. My job is really flexible but the pay sucks so I stick it out because my boss is great, I can take my son with me, and again its really flexible. Another thing my mom watches my son a lot while I am working sometimes and just need some advice about nursing school. Is it as demanding as everyone says? How are the classes and clinicals usually scheduled? Is there anyone out there currently in the nursing program at COD?? Should I go straight for my RN or attempt the LPN then do the bridge program?? I am also dealing with the fact I may have to start from the beginning which doesn't depress me too much because I am only going to be 21 this year. However, I do have a crap load of student loans already from attending two different schools. Even if people know of other careers that are good for single mothers I will be open to those too! I just need some advice about everything really I don't want to struggle forever, but I don't want to miss out on my son's life either. Thanks for reading!

Chamberlain College
I have decided to apply to Chamberlain College as my main choice of nursing school. I am going to apply to COD and Aurora University as well. Far as Chamberlain how is the school?? I have read great and some discouraging reviews. I go to Kaplan University for Medical Assisting the school is accredited but I've read that Chamberlain doesn't really accept many transfer courses. I've also heard the program is flexible is that true?? Also what the admissions process is like?? Thanks I would appreciate any answers/advice!!

BSN or Graduate Entry...please help??
I am nearing the end of my program online at Kaplan University for Medical Assisting and finally decided that I wanted to pursue a career in nursing. The only thing with transferring to go to a BSN program is a lot or maybe even all of my classes won't transfer from what almost every school I have called is telling me. Kaplan is accredited so that confuses me. I don't want to do a ADN program and I was considering graduate entry, but medical assistants are typically employed full-time. I have read kind of bad posts about WSCN and good ones about Chamberlain, Aurora, and possibly Lewis. I am just wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation. I am just really looking for a good flexible nursing school thanks!

Should I try for the ADN or BSN??
Once I finish my medical assisting program online in about jan/feb...I will have 6 of the gen ed completed for the JJC nursing program in addition to classes being transferred from another college as well. I am at a crossroad whether to try for my ADN or BSN. The schools in my area are Lewis, Aurora, St. Francis, has anyone heard anything good about any of these schools or are currently in the nursing program at these schools? Also it seems it would be quicker to get my ADN rather than BSN. Also since medical assistants are usually employed full-time, how long do clinicals usually last, are they all day and how many days a week. I have to factor in how much time I would basically be spending away from my son while trying to pursue either degree. Any advice or suggestions is greatly appreciated!!

Need advice about nursing school?!?!
Hey all! I currently go to Kaplan University online for Medical Assisting and will be starting my clinical in October and done in February. I want to continue my education once I am finished with this program in nursing. I am in district for JJC but have heard they have a waiting list? Once I am done with Med Asst I will have a lot of science classes that I would need for nursing. A girl I work with that just finished nursing school thinks I should go for it, but I have heard a lot of positive and negative things about nursing. Also I'm debating whether to try to transfer to a four-year school or get another associates? I already attended St. Xavier before online school and have no interest to go back there. I'm just kind of lost anyone run into this problem? I also worry about clinicals clashing with my work schedule and taking care of my son? Should I try to pursue a BSN or just get an ADN, which one would be the quickest with an AAS in Medical Assisting? Thanks :-)
