NYU ABSN- do recc letter & transcripts have to be sent directly from the school?
Hi everyone! For those of you who've applied to NYU's 15 month accelerated program.. For our college transcripts and recommendation letters, do our old schools and recommendation writers need to send the letters and transcripts to NYU directly? Or can the recommendation letters and transcripts both be sent to me, and then I can mail the entire thing to NYU in one envelope? Thank you!! I tried calling them, but they're not answering

Best HESI A2 Study Guide
btw, I studied with the Evolve 2nd edition book, but there's a 3rd one out now. It'll probably be more updated so that's why I recommended that one.

Best HESI A2 Study Guide
I think studying with the official Evolve Study Guide 3rd edition would be the best way to go. I took my test two days after my last Fall 2011 final school exams, and it helped. I only studied for the HESI for two days with that review book (and my AP notes and cliffnotes), and somehow ended up getting a 95% overall. I ordered two other review books, but they were too generic.. as in they tried to prep you for the TEAS, HESI, and whatever else all at once, so they weren't as specific as the Evolve HESI study guide. Breaking it down: The math review in the book gives you is pretty much 100% on par with what you'll be tested on. It's mainly simple high school math + lots of conversions. Great review. As far as vocab and reading go, it only helps by letting you know the type of questions you'll be asked. There was a list of vocab words to know, but I only had about 5 of them on the actual test. Your verbal abilities on the test are pretty much based off of the verbal abilities you've been capable of up until now. So if someone sucks at reading comprehension, they're not going to ace it.. but if you're average or good, I think you'll be fine. It's definitely MUCH easier than SAT verbal, so that's a plus. Anatomy & P: The book's review was absolutely useless.......... way to generic and basic. You won't be asked ridiculously detailed questions on the exam, but I recommend taking it after you take both semester of AP. I took the test having taken only 1 semester of AP so I only got an 88 on that section. I studied A&P notes and cliffnotes before the test, but I definitely would've done better if I took the second semester of AP already. Hope this was able to help you a little. You can try the more generic prep books meant for all tests, but the best study prep for math is the Evolve book, and the best prep for science.. is your old class notes lol. Good luck!!

NVCC pre-reqs-which classes are you taking?
I spoke with both an adviser from NVCC and an advisor from GMU, and they both told me to take BIO205 (Genernal Microbio) instead of the Intro level Microbio. The NVCC advisor I spoke to actually waived the prereqs to take BIO205 because she said the prereqs were there to keep the "18-year-olds in check" lol.. but she said that since I had a Bachelors degree already, she would just enroll me in the course without the prereqs since she thinks we can handle it.

ABSN: SAT scores- how old can scores be before you have to retake?
How long can you have your SAT scores before they "expire" and you have to retake them? Some ABSN programs (like VCU) I'm applying to require SAT scores still......... I took my SAT back in the summer of 2006, but I'm worried that the scores are too old now. I got a 2160 (Verbal 670, Math 780, Writing 710) but will that even matter if I took it at least 5 years ago??? Any insight is appreciated!

NVCC pre-reqs-which classes are you taking?
In reply to LawyerRN2B: I called GMU in August about the Microbio prereqs because they had conflicting information. One page of their website said you needed to take just the Intro to Microbio course, and another page said to take the General Microbio course. BUT, when I called GMU to ask about the discrepancy, they told me I need to take General Microbio (BIO205), and not the other one which is more entry level (Intro to Microbio). I am now taking General Microbio (BIO205) at NVCC.

NVCC pre-reqs-which classes are you taking?
Even if you haven't taken chemistry or bio, you can try getting into the higher level science classes (Microbio) by talking to a NVCC academic adviser. I met with one of their academic counselor's who waived the one year of bio/chem prereqs for me to get into Microbio and A&P. She said that since I already have a Bachelors degree, she would enroll me in the higher level classes because my degree proves I can handle the workload. I am finishing up my first month of classes, and everything is going fine. I have a good knowledge of Bio and Chem (from AP exams, scored 5 on both) from high school, though.. if you haven't taken ANY Bio or Chem classes, it could be useful for you to at least study a bit of those on your own!

Second Degree Nursing admission: Does what undergraduate college you come from matter
Hi everyone, I just turned 22 and am looking to pursue a second degree in nursing now that I have just graduated with a BBA (Bachelor of Business Administration) from Carnegie Mellon University (ranked #23 undergrad college in the nation; #7 for its business program). I was wondering if nursing schools take into consideration which undergraduate college you received your first bachelor degree from? When nursing admissions review your transcript and GPA.. do they only look at the GPA you have and disregard the college you received it from, or do they look at the college and GPA? I'm concerned because I graduated with a 3.12 cumulative GPA, but I scored a 2140 on the SAT (only taken once, math: 780, reading: 650, writing: 710) and landed good jobs (with salary of 50K-55K) because employers knew I was graduating from a good school. I know I should've worked harder, but I had no passion for my major as my studies continued, which is why I want to make the switch to nursing now instead of working a boring desk job! Since my business major is quite unrelated to nursing, will the nursing schools I'm applying to care that I graduated from my college? I'm afraid they will just see my 3.12 GPA and automatically think I'm incompetent. I could've easily gone to a much easier or relaxed college (I also got into University of Texas at Austin, Wellesley, Boston College, Trinity University, Purdue University..) and obtained a higher GPA, but I wanted to challenge myself and thus enrolled in a more rigorous undergrad program. Any input would be really appreciated. Thanks so much!! P.S. I do not mean to offend anyone or brag about my school. I just wanted to give you a picture of where I'm coming from. Since you don't know me, I figured that I would just share with you college statistics and my general statistics..

Any Business Major Grads turned Nursing out there?
Thank you for all your advice and encouragement! Good luck to everyone! Goldendomer63 and Carnival31, if you don't mind sharing, what caused you to make the pretty drastic career change from business to nursing?

Any Business Major Grads turned Nursing out there?
Are any of you recent college graduates who have a Bachelors in Business?? I've seen so many posts in the prenursing boards from science/tech majors, but haven't really seen any business people. Just wondering if there's any of you out there and how you're managing? I just graduated with a BS in Business and minor in Health Care Policy & Management. I was ready to have a career in health managment, but after working internships in offices, I KNOW that I don't just want to work in management, I want to be a part of health care as a nurse. What sucks is that I barely have any of the pre-reqs for nursing since business classes (aside from gen eds, math/stats) are as far away from nursing as you can get.. so I'm basically trying to volunteer and cram too many courses into my fall semester schedule at a community college in Virginia so I can apply to nursing school in the Spring 2013 cohort... ahhh...

Has anyone ever taking Bio 202 and mircobiology together?
I'm taking A&P I and Micro too! And I agree, if we can't handle that now, who knows if we'll be able to handle nursing school later on.. Good luck everyone!

Anyone taking Microbiology this fall?
Good luck!! I'm taking A&P I and Microbio (both with labs) too! Plus Nutrition, Biomedical Ethics, and Developmental Psych I. Starting school Aug 22. I've been advised against taking all these classes at once, so we'll see how that goes...

Nova- anyone had luck with taking Micro & A&P together?
hi! just wanted to share my experience. even though nova has "strict" prereqs set for certain classes, and a trip to admissions and a visit with a counselor could get some of your prereqs to the classes waived so you can enroll in the upper level class. i went to visit admissions last week, and the counselor i spoke with enrolled me in microbio bio 205 with only 1 semester of college biology and 1 semester of chemistry. she told me that nova sets most of the prereqs for students right out of high school.. so if you already have some type of college degree (i have a bs in business), they will be more lenient with letting you into the upper level classes. she basically just glanced at my undergrad transcript, asked me if she thought i could handle it, and then waived all the prereqs on her computer and enrolled me in bio 205. i also got a 5 on the bio ap exam back in high school so i'm not sure if that also factored into her letting me in.. but that was taken 4 years ago so i don't think it did. i didn't want to question her too much in case she revoked my enrollment
