Hi! I wanted to see how you did on your boards. How was the exam? I am taking the test in two weeks and I am very anxious! Do you have any tips? I have been using these two books to review: Core Review for Primary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioners and the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Certification Review Guide. What was helpful for you? Melanie, Are you from northern Nevada or Las Vegas? As a new grad in the PICU at our hospital you get about 12 weeks orientation with a preceptor, more if you are not comfortable yet. I was also a nurse apprentice for a year and a half and did 4 months on a gen peds floor before transfering. I think if I was thrown out on my own after three weeks I wouldn't feel very safe. There are so many things I have yet to learn!! Good luck to you, and don't forget to ask for help! Talk with your nurse manager too, they may be able to stretch it out for you if need be. Tracy

TB affects the lungs, maybe you mean arthritis? To be tested for TB you are injected in your forearm, if it comes back positive (raised wheel > 10mm) you then need a chest x-ray...followed by possible treatment, usually isoniazid (INH) Here is some information for you that might be helpful: http://www.cdc.gov/nchstp/tb/faqs/qa.htm

Just a side question, how do you get out of your contract without being fined by the hospital? I signed a two year new-grad contract and who knows how long I will really want to stay with this hospital. Thanks.

I just graduated in August and was taught by an instructor to write "omit" rather than "error". :)

At the hospital I work at a yellow band is a fall risk patient. At another hospital in town, a purple band means do not resusitate. I think it depends on your hospitals protocal. I know our local news is doing a story on it tonight.

This article made my heart rate go up and face flush with anger, why is it that we are going backwards? What happened to seperation of church and state? Who are they to decide how other people should run their lives? So many questions that come to mind but one thing I know for sure, these people do not belong in this profession, we are here to help and provide knowledge when it comes to healthcare. We are not in the position to be forcing our values on others. :uhoh21:
