  1. These are very good tips. I just had an interview with SHC and blew it because I forgot what shared governance meant. Mash Mash would be so mad at me
  2. "Banner will identify the people within its organization it thinks will make good candidates for a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. Those participants will be educated at the Arizona State University College of Nursing. To "fill the void" left behind by the Banner staff moving up, Castillo said Chicanos por la Causa and Maricopa Workforce Connection will work to identify new candidates looking to start careers in health care." Wow, so they are recruiting internally? Story of the AZ healthcare system. You need to know someone to get in anywhere. That is so frustrating! And 700 RNs, about 800 RNs are produced every sesmster here.
  3. "Well Larry, no one's going to notice your nose now."
  4. Definitely try to get anything in the hospital. I know MANY of my classmates that worked as PCT, CNA and even food service workers while in nursing school. I believe all of them are working as RN's. Had I known this, I would have definitely worked in a hospital. Being a new grad is so discouraging right now, get in early so by the time you graduate, you have a better chance. All of the people who had non hospital jobs are still looking 3 months later. Good luck :)
  5. Yes, take it! I have been looking for 3 months. As a new grad BSN no one wants to hire us. Take anything to get that first year under your belt. You are so incredibly lucky if you find a job within the first month of being hired. I've read on this forum it takes about 3-6 months and I even read a story of someone who had been looking for 22 months!
  6. Yes, I have looked into those jobs as well, they all have 1-2 years experience required. And reading in this forum LTC RNs have 60-80 patients, I do not want that as a new grad.
  7. I remember in my management class or somewhere, learning that we can't practice below our scope of practice, is this accurate? Can I not get a job to get my foot in the door during this hiring freeze? I'm just so deperate for a job I have run out of money and looking for jobs at grocery stores. If I had known I needed to work in a hospital to get an RN job I would have started in high school!!
  8. My friend just got hired at a Banner facility, new grad yes it said, and they have a pretty extensive training program. I would do it if you have an "in" because once you get a year experience then all the other doors can open up for you.
  9. Hi, do you know if they are hiring new grads? Also do they offer housing for the employees? Thanks, and congrats!
  10. I would disagree. Or maybe because I'm very angry at the false hope I got from all the threads I've read about Abrazo's new grad program. I have a RN-BSN, I'm ACLS certified and I got rejected. I didn't even get a letter/email I had to keep checking my status. My friend got an interview and hired (but she got a Banner job) and it took them forever to contact her, they seem very disorganized to me. Maybe it's a good thing, doesn't sound like a desirable place to work anyway.
  11. I would probably email and bring the scrubs with me. Don't be embarrassed. It's your body, it is what it is. You wouldn't be embarrassed if you needed special accommodation like a ramp if you were in a wheelchair right?
  12. Android users did you find a good app that is not overly pricey? $10 I think is might max.
  13. Is the NCLEX PN easier than the NCLEX RN? I know if I fail the RN one I can take the PN one right away. Are they different? I know RN's assess but do PN's have the ADPIE and all that stuff too?
  14. Hi, sorry if this is already a thread (I looked though) I was wondering of the people who passed NCLEX, did you do practice exams to prepare? and what was your overall comprehensive percentage? I'm getting in the high 60's and I feel that I need around 75%, does any one agree? Thanks
  15. Oro Valley is a long way from Phoenix. You should find a thread that talks about Tucson stuff or Pima Community College.
  16. I know this is kind of old, but when I applied two years ago, I had already taken my HESI at a community college in Coolidge, I just needed to bring the records over and that knocked down the initial fee since I did not have to take it. Most of my classes transferred. Like you, my sociology class was too high and I had to take the lower one, I also had to take economics. Hope this helps and if you have more questions I'll be happy to help :)
  17. I graduate this October. If anyone needs the uniform I can sell it cheaper than what they are new. I never got blood or fluids on it. The tops are both L and I have 4 pair of bottoms that L and XL. Good luck to you all :)

I don't remember her saying her name. I called around five pm, I was surprised anyone answered to be honest. That's awesome about the teaching position! congrats :)

Hi I called today, they are working on getting the class together. The price is $50 more with the AZ emergency people than the hospital I found. But I may go with them because they are for new grad nurses. Thanks for your help :)

Thank you so much Lunchbox :)

I know at least one other person a BSN new grad nurse that would like to take and ACLS class too. Do you know how much the cost is? Thanks
  22. Hi Dixie, I can send you the link to the required classes. I took all but 2 pre-reqs at MCC and I did not want to wait on their 2 yr list either. Chamberlain is very expensive but if you looked at GCU then you know that. It's a bachelor's program and that seems to be a plus as a new grad. Good luck :) http://chamberlain.edu/docs/curriculum-grids/bsn-curriculum-grid-incoming.pdf http://www.chamberlain.edu/docs/academics-admissions/tuition-grid-2011-12.pdf http://chamberlain.edu/docs/academics-admissions/academic-calendar.pdf Also it's year round too. But with all your re-reqs done and you don't fail a class, you'll be done in two years - the time you'd be wasting waiting to get into the MCC program.

Hi, I clicked the link, it seems they are all refresher only classes. I go back and forth from Mesa to Phoenix. As long as it's in the Phx metro area I don't mind driving. Thanks for your help :)

Hi, I will be graduating this semester with my BSN and I was wondering if I am able to take an ACLS class to get certified. Do you think this will help me get a job as a new grad? Also does anyone know of the potential costs? I saw one for about $100 plus $50 book deposit. Thanks :)
  25. Hi, I'm not sure if anyone mentioned Central Arizona College program. You have to have your CNA certification for this program, but I've heard that is pretty easy. (about $1,000 + community college is a whole lot cheaper!) this could save you on gas too since it's in Coolidge. Plus no waiting list! This might have changed since 2009 when I looked into it.
