  1. They were suppose to have a night class which I would have considered doing but so far nothing as of yet I will check and see if they have one possibly starting when I went there they had plans to start on I think this January 2015. The Florida campus has nights so I'm not sure why the jersey campus doesn't.

  3. When I hear things like this I'm so glade I didn't stay because for all the money they were charging I did feel that sometimes they were lacking in teaching not all the teachers but also hearing from classes that were ahead of me how some of the teachers would lecture about things all day and nothing about it had to do with the upcoming exams. Also I really didn't like how in some classes they would do the content review after the exams. What I mean is if the exam was on chapter 1-3 you would read those chapters on your own have the exam and then the teacher would lecture on those chapters and go over the exam to see what you got right or wrong.
  4. The price had me a little but not being able to work and the travel was like 45-50 minutes one way plus a dollar toll every day on the way home. Besides those I would have stayed I guess I wasn't fully ready to attend when I did. Overall I will say it's a good school I have 3 friends who are still there and they are doing well.
  5. I went there for a month and while the school looks nice I felt it was over priced for an AS degree the course has gone up I'm hearing it's about $33k now. I decide to stay with excelsior college as there overall tuition with clinical wouldn't even be half of what this school was charging.
  6. So clinicals are 3 weeks long 4 times a year. I would probably go to Florida and rent a place for just one month as long as the price range rant to high. WGU has a really good tuition for BSN. I will request a brochure
  7. Can I do the pre-licensure if I live in Philadelphia. I was just wondering
  8. Hello I still haven't found steady work as an lpn but work in psych as a tech, my bosses said they will offer me a job once I get my RN since they no longer hire lpn for nursing position. Looks like it's fate that I don't ever work as a lpn and the lpn was only a stepping stone to getting my RN. I now mind you I graduated lpn school in march of 2012 and only time to time got a gig here and there in home care but nothing steady since they don't have to much work for male nurses. I wanted to work for davita but they too seem to only hire RN here in PA. Not worried I'm going to work hard at EC and then hit up Sheri Taylor work shop when I'm ready for cpne
  9. Each state has their own rules you can call the board of nursing in your state to see what their requirement is for licensing. P.s I decide not to use achieve prep as the extra cost was to much. I'm using studygroup101 and loving their material.
  10. Those 8 weeks course follow the tuition of the undergrad wow that's like 425 per credit. I rather use studygroup101 materials and test out true you get financial aide but the overall cost jumps up like crazy for the same course. Test out is $325 plus $75 for the practice exams. And you can be ready in 3-4 weeks studying on your own, but to each their own. I prefer to test out.
  11. just to update had my orientation and I have to say they told us from the start that its going to be a hard program so i am ready and i already made changes to work so school won't be effected. Have you visited the school and will you be attending the next class.
  12. hello i am currently will be attending the November class and from what i hear it is a good school to attend. 30k to become a nurse and work in my dream job is worth it to me so i say take a tour of the school and get a feel for it, that's what i did and have to say once i was told i got in all i want to do now is finish and graduate nothing but god is before my education. what price would you put on your education.
  13. Ok I wanted to put my two sense. Most teachers don't look away they do change it up, but the material must be available to the student that is policy. When I was in lpn school my library had previous books which I read from and guess what boom some of the material was from those books. Using a test bank is not an easy A it's additional material to use and study. But if you save it on a cell phone or in a hat or your shoes then thats cheating if your using it to match what you've been reading then that's different to each their own. But also that's why schools have exit exams if you get through the classes cheating then there's no way you should get through the exit exams.
  14. I'm in the same boat as you. I started EC 6 months after graduation I haven't worked as a Lpn since no one is giving me a chance I've applied almost every where. But I'm prepared not to work as a Lpn while I get my RN and I had plan to use a program at achieve prep but decide not to. Since it would add on to my cost. Will be looking into Sheri's course once I get to CPNE
  15. What do you mean by real RN school. Excelsior is located in Albany New York and its one of the few schools that is NLN certified. They have been open for over 30yrs and in 2012 Nclex they sent 2100 students to Nclex with over 1600 passing the first time which gave them an 86 percent average. Now the states that require a few more steps to attain licensure can't explain why excelsior students are passing the same exams that traditional nursing students are also taking.
  16. Its hard for me to answer your question. In my case I haven't found an LPN job yet but I currently got a job as a Mental health tech and it pays well and had a ton of OT, they said once I have my RN they will offer me a position. so unlike your case my job is already kind of in place, so I won't be asked those extra questions. best way to answer would be to let them know of your past experience and challenge your past experience with a green nurse coming out of a brick and mortar school. I would ask them would they hire a nurse who came from a school but couldn't pass nclex at the end of the day we all are sitting for the same exam.
  17. for me i'm using a prep school called achieve test prep to get me through the excelsior program. they create a classroom type environment and i have to say that is the best way for me. yes its an extra cost but i will do what i need to do to get my RN.
  18. true thats why there is a list of state on excelsior website which has their own rules on how a excelsior grad can become licensed. But for some reason these are New because up until around 2006 all of the states didn't have a problem licensing EC grads, matter of fact no reasearch has been done to prove that EC grad nurses are worst off then traditional school nurses. But if you were to check the 2012 Nclex pass rate you would see that Excelsior had a 86% pass rate which is nation wide the norm, but what isn't told is that excelsior sent out over 2000 students and over 1600 passed the first time. The other states are just protecting their pockets, think about it.
  19. Yes I can say at some point in my lpn program the school owners seem more likely to kick you out then to help you. But I wouldn't let those bad experience get to you. You have experience and will be able to work somewhere else where it's not negative. I did get my license in may and finding work is crazy without the 1yr experience. But even so I have applied and will be doing achieve prep to get my ASN through excelsior. No matter what happens never second guess yourself and keep pushing towards your goal.
  20. Hey a "C" is passing and I'm sure you will do better on the next try. Plus the topics in some of the nursing class were taught to me during my lpn classes. A friend of mines said you just graduated and got your license sign up and start excelsior but use achieve prep to do it for the additional help. She said she did that and loved it. So when I had the meeting at achieve I felt like yes this is where I want to get my RN. Also print out the content guide that excelsior provides for free. My friend said she used both achieve and excelsior content guide
  21. I had a meeting at achieve test prep here in Philly and loved what they had to offer. They are a prep or tutoring if you would for excelsior. They have a full lab that you can use to practice for the CPNE. You still get the flexibility of excelsior but the environment of a class room. They have their own books which is helpful and price wise if you have no prerequisite would be $20k mines is around $15k since I have some. You could check you community college, but remember your competing with about 1000 other students for maybe 100 seats. I say have a meeting with achieve and then decide
  22. Yeah but the wait list can be three years which depending on when you got your science class done could be a problem
  23. Yeah in Philadelphia Lpns in LTC are making $21-$26 an hour and $26-$30 an hour pool and agency
  24. Yes I am a student at pitc...I would say it is what you make, true things aren't the best. At times you do feel like your on your own but that is where you pull other student with you and start a study group. My class has the highest student ratio and I think the owners don't like that fact. I have only stayed because the other students have made fun and bare able. We have a guy who calls himself the class president, he is kind of goofy and funny, but I find him very cute. People like that have made this crazy nutty school ok to be at. Yes the fast track RN is not true in a way. Joy porter will probably come at the end to discuss online programs we can attend. I already want to attend excelsior so my mind is made up, also for the $20k your paying you get crappiest equipment ever. My advice is only go to pitc if it's your last option.
