  1. A good chunk of lawyers who work with nursing boards will let you make payments. PLEASE retain a lawyer if at all possible. Twoyearnurse said it perfect- you worked incredibly hard for that nursing license. Please don't give it up!
  2. Try Baylor Healthcare System. Some of the departments there are TPAPN friendly. Also try Davita or Fresenius Dialysis centers.
  3. KaseyJo, I have dealt with a suspended RN License. I am still dealing with one I know the broad spectrum of feelings you are experiencing. I can promise you this.... IT GETS BETTER. I found a job with a family owned company about a month after my license was suspended. I have been out of medicine for about 18 months. I've been doing things right this go-around in my sobriety and things have gradually gotten better. I will hopefully get my license reinstated in a few months. It has been one heck of a road! Things began to get better when I let go and let God... I forgave myself and quit beating myself up. My suggestion to you would be to start attending meetings and document your attendance, find a sponsor, and see about getting some sort of treatment. This will not only get you on the right path, but it will show your nursing board you mean business. If you want to PM me, I'll go into greater detail with you about my situation with the nursing borad. I have faced former colleagues and nurse managers 'throwing me under the bus' for lack of a better term. Several of my old coworkers, some who I considered good friends, printed my board order and distributed it around the department I used to work in. I know how betrayed you feel and how much it HURTS you. Try not to dwell on in. Hold your head high and move forward. Surround yourself with those who are Team KaseyJo!! I read this in a post eariler... You are a WONDERFUL person, you just did a not so wonderful thing. It will be ok, I promise. For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11
  4. That is just fantastic!! Congrats my friend! I'm so sorry about your 'friends' who won't associate with you anymore professionally ... You just don't need people like that in your life. I am very happy you found a place in nursing. Keep us posted! I also just saw you post above about mother passing. Please accept my condolences. I went through the exact same thing with one of my parents last year. I'm glad things are looking up!!
  5. I agree with backtowork, I think if we are expected to make contact and/or turn things in a timely manner we should expect the same courtesy in return from the monitoring program. I hope they respond soon so you can start working!!
  6. Yes Fresenius is VERY recovery friendly. Give them a shot. I went on their site, saw the locations hiring and went in person with resume in hand. Dialysis is a very rewarding area to work in. Let us know how it goes. Good luck!!
  7. Any word from JPS? I know Baylor Healthcare System will work with nurses who have stipulations. Have you thought about dialysis? There is a great need for dialysis nurses in the DFW area. Good Luck!!
  8. Do everything they tell you to do. Learninglessons and TXRN2 covered the the bases very well. Good Luck, this forum is great for support :)

yay!!! Congrats to you!! As everyone else has said, don't forget us! Learninglessons, I got your email but it won't let me reply because I haven't posed enough entries. Please let me know how it went.
  10. Learninglessons, you are SUCH an inspiration!! Thank you for sharing your story and replying to some of these comments with dignity. Living in addiction is something that won't be understood unless you lived it. I wouldn't wish it upon ANYONE. However, it doesn't give the right for others to judge those of us who are living in addiction, trying to find the courage to admit we have an addiction, or working our recovery. Trust me, living with addiction also means living with guilt and shame, not to mention the repercussions of our poor decisions. One thing I have learned is people are going to judge us for our past mistakes, and I do my best to stay away from those people. It is none of my business what you think of me. Yes, I am an addict. I thank GOD that it didn't kill me, or anyone else for that matter. Stay strong my friends!!
  11. Jamie, I have dealt with a suspended license. My advice to you is spend this year concentrating on your recovery. Document everything you do so you can take it to the BON when you request reinstatement. The BON can be unprediacable at best. I wanted to do RN-BSN while my license was suspended and the programs I applied to told me to come back after my license was reinstated. I know the road you are traveling on seems bleak. There will be many hoops to jump through, fines to pay, etc. I'm still jumping through hoops and I will be for a while... BUT IT GETS BETTER!!! There is a light at the end of the tunnel. :) Continue working your steps and your recovery. Do you have a sponsor?
  12. TPAPN closed my case and sent it back to the board a while back. It was due to my own stupidity I'm hesitant to contact TPAPN due to that reason.
  13. I was board ordered TPAPN, I didn't take it very seriously, TPAPN sent my case back to the board and my license was suspended for a year. I had several 'blips' on the radar screen that contributed to my license being suspended. It's my doing and I will jump through whatever kind of hoops are placed in front of me when my license is reinstated. I'm not going to sugar coat the fact the BON is intimidating. bigdttu, PM me, I bet we are in the same area. Do you have an attorney?
  14. I was a critical care nurse for 8 years before I diverted narcs. I went to dialysis after I started probation and I LOVE IT!!! I truly learn something new all the time, whether it be different ways to access a site or how each patient reacts differently to a hypotensive episode. Dialysis has kept me on my toes. It is fast pace and you use your nursing knowledge all the time. I have also thoroughly enjoyed getting to know my patients and their family members. In a way, I feel my sense of compassion has returned. Let me clarify by saying I AM NOT stating critical care nurses are not compassionate. I am using my case as an example. I worked in an extremely busy ER and I lost touch with the compassionate side of myself, and I feel that was one of the triggers to my using. I am thankful everyday for my manager believing in me and giving me the opportunity to work there. I had a lot of doors slammed in my face, and by the grace of God I found the job in dialysis. I've made some big mistakes. I didn't learn the first time around either. But everyday I wake up, I thank God for my family, my sobriety, and my job. I agree with prior comments that it is a tough road, and I LOVE the comment 'grab the bull by the horns.' That is what we have to do. There are better days ahead. And again, I will tell you, I am a former critical care nurse who LOVES her dialysis job. You truly have an opportunity to make a difference in these patients lives!! :)
  15. I am in the panhandle. There is a group in my area but I've been told it's 'invitation only' and that's all I've been able to find out. Where are you?
