Collin College ADN Summer 2019!
I'm originally from Chicago as well lol I moved here 2 years ago. Needed a change in my environment and better career so Texas was it for me, I love it here!! I'm hitting 36 next month so we have some things in common :-) One thing for sure, it's never to late to go into nursing or school-- I already have A&P 1/2 complete from a previous school, I now just need to complete Microbiology and take the PSB exam. Shooting for Summer 2019 but Fall is fine as well, because I can use that time to knock out some more pre reqs.

How to take Lpn's classes in High School?
Mz2juceey Most LPN programs for Chicago Public High Schools have selective enrollment. Few schools that offered this program are Percy Julian and Gwendolyn Brooks, Benito Juarez, Dunbar and Sullivan. They are under the medical & health career academy program or as they call it education to careers (CTE). Start the program during their Junior year. Their numbers are below. Percy Julian (773) 535-5170 Gwendolyn Brooks College Prep (773) 535-9930 Juarez (773) 534-7030 Dunbar (773) 534-9000 Sullivan (773) 534-2000 Or you can try to reach Chicago Public Schools to get a list of schools that offer the LPN program as well (773) 553-2108 I was able to find a pdf version of the program with more info here: http://sullivanhs.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/CPS-CTE-Health-Sciences-2012.pdf Hope this helps!

lpn to bsn or rn to bsn?
Im in the Midwest and a few schools here offer the lpn to bsn bridge or accelerated BSN program. Check out your schools website,it ususlly lets you know if that program is offered. Depends on what you see yourself doing in the future. If getting a bsn is the goal, you may want to jump into a direct program. Good Luck!

who attends ATS Institute of Technology
The program is either 12 or 16 months depending on your placement exam results and any transferring credits that may cover the pre reqs. Type in ATS and you will get all reviews from both the Chicago and Ohio campus. Definitely do your research and check other schools out as well.

looking for lpn school in chicago
I can answer some questions based on when I was considering them some years back. The program is 12 or 16 months, depending on: your (Accuplacer) exam, and your transfer credits for A&P 1/2 (both at the same school) with a B average,Psychology,Eng Comp, and College Algebra. If you do well on the placement but no pre reqs complete you fall into the 16 month program dont matter if you are days or eve. There is also a PSB entrance exam that consists of science, and nursing situations,...My cousin attends the evening session and will graduate in the fall, most of the time she gets out at the same time through out the week, sometimes earlier. So far for 2013 out of 81 students 56 passed so their passing rate is 69%. They received a warning because it needs to be a 75% or better. ATS 1st class was in 2011 so alot of bumps and unorganization along the way,but hopefully it gets better. In the beginning they offered a $5000 tuition discount, that is no longer available and tuition is high since its been approved for financial aid. Books(up to 1000),Uniforms and background check/immunization fees are not included in the tuition, most have to pay out of pocket..

update on ATS nursing school
Hello FutureNurseMini Not too much info from what was stated because they both are new schools and it will be their 1st class this year. Best Med class has been pushed back to August and pre reqs will start in May. Tuition is the same as above,no financial aid but loans and payment plans are accepted. I believe they will only have morning classes to start off. All American Nursing offers pre reqs within the program so its 15 months, and class starts March 24th so $1,000 deposit will be due upon passing the Hesi. Tuition is still the same and morning classes as well. Remember both are fairly new as far as the LPN classes goes so just keep that in mind, their websites are below if you want to check them out,and by all means contact them to inquire about the program so more. They both are Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) :: BestMed-Care Institute LPN Program :: All American Nursing School Another option is PCCTI they have days evenings and weekend start dates, financial aid is available. that is what I'm leaning on at the moment so I can still work. Next session is 6/02 and it's days 10am-2pm with clinicals on Wednesdays or Evening session in August. LPN Program | PCCTI :: Healthcare School :: Chicago / Oak Brook, Illinois :: Advance your professional career with us

Networking... challenge CNA ???
Most states will let you challenge the CNA exam after you complete Fundamentals of Nursing and a certain amount of hours in your clinicals. Here in Illinois its 40 hours. Check with your state.

I left another one out lol Ambria College in Hoffman Estates is one that accepts financial aid (pell and loans). No waiting list and Pre reqs needed are: Psy,Math for Nurses (dosage calculation),Eng 101,A&P and Intro to Computers. Classes start in Jan/May and Sept. There is 60 slots available per start date. They also have the LPN to RN program and just added the RN to BSN for 2014. NCLEX pass rate for LPN is 90% RN is 100% Job Placement is 98%.

update on ATS nursing school
Babygirl you can check these: All American Nursing in Alsip,Il. School is fairly new but they been offering cna classes, the LPN class starts in March. Pre reqs are included in tuition,no transfer of courses unfortunately . Everything is included in the tuition,$23000 1000 down 200/month payment plan available. No cna certification is needed. 15 month program(morning) and you have to score a 78 on the Hesi exam(math, reading, vocab, grammar). Im taking my exam mid January. Another option is Best Med Care in Dolton,Il. This facility been around for awhile doing cna classes,Now their 1st 11 month LPN class starts in May,but tuition is $18,500(books/uniforms/fees),need cna, cpr, med terminology 101,psy,pharmacology,a&p. If you dont have those they will offer that starting in Jan. If its a c average and taken in the last 5 years you can transfer it in...Hesi exam is also needed before acceptance. Scholarships are available for around 3000 off lpn course last time I checked. Im very close to school so will see what else I can find out.

MAT 155
Contemporary math is kinda business related ,still deals with statistics,geometry,science,etc..I have heard thats its easier than College Algebra, but haven't taken it for myself.
-
MAT 155
MAT155 is Statistics. This is a course that combines math and science. Deals with probability and analysis from what I remember. Majors in Nursing,Natural Science usually have this as a gen ed requirement.

why are you going the LPN route?
The 2 year program is so competitive and not enough slots available for the majority of applicants applying. Also considering the long wait list for RN programs, the LPN route is a better fit for me at this time. I have a teenage daughter in school, and I still want to work part time so this program allows me to do so. I have the majority of my pre-reqs done so when I complete everything I will still transfer into a LPN-BSN once I get my feet wet and time permits. If you are looking to get into nursing sooner than later than this is the best route to take, you still become a nurse and can advance your career when you are ready! Some people will tell you that LPN's are being phased out,(been hearing that for years now) but I believe the job is more available than previous years and even more outside of the hospital setting.

Grades
Most schools will take some C's while others prefer B's. The entrance can be either the Hesi ,The Teas Test,or PSB. You can find out exactly which one they have by calling the admissions dept or check out their website, and look for admission requirements for the nursing program. It does varies by schools.

Grades
Welcome to AllNursing!! I think you have a great chance to get in,especially if you do well on the entrance exam and everything else needed for their admissions requirement. You can also find a traditional RN program that is 2 years and apply there as well so you have other options available to you. Keep us posted on your journey 2 Nursing :)

Associate degree in Health Information Management
You should be able to get into a nursing program because most only require the pre reqs done like med terminology,a&p,eng, psy and college algebra. I took up medical office assistant about a year ago and most of my classes were transferrable to an LPN program. As long as your science courses are C or better and 5 years or less when completed you should be okay. The school you are interested in will tell you what else is needed.

Pccti review Updated information 2013
TJerdine did you apply for financial aid? Compared to ATS 30K plus books, uniforms and transportation, parking I will take there tuition lol I was able to receive my award letter last month to see what I'm working with and it covered most of the tuition except 1300. That would be spread over the months of the program. It's a private college so most of these schools are in the 15-30 range unless you are at a community college then it's probably 5K. Pretty ridiculous when check other states and see how much they charge,I wish Illinois was the lower tuition states.

LPN-BSN in chicago
Its a couple of schools that offer Lpn to RN or BSN. Purdue University in Hammond offers an accelerated program where the pre reqs of 27 credit hours need to be done for advanced placement. Some off the top of my head are: Saint Xavier University,Ambria College in Hoffman Estates,Chicago State,Oakton Community College, and Morton College are other options. Indiana State offers the Lpn to bsn online but pre reqs need to be taken already somewhere else. I think I'm going to check ISU out since clinicals can be done locally and all classes are online.

Pccti review Updated information 2013
Thanks Jess! If I had my cna certification finished I would be right there with ya lol Definitely keep me posted. I'm sure the nervous bug will go away after the first few weeks of class :-) Just make sure to get a schedule going for studying and reading chapters. Have yourself a little study area in your home. If you have your textbooks already most students suggest skimming through it and maybe read the first chapter. I know you are planning on working while in school, so stay motivated and I will be right here cheering you on! I'm a single mother myself so I know we have to do what we have to just to get where we want to be...Our job is never done lol

Pccti review Updated information 2013
I notice they have a high turn over rate when it comes to employees. I had three different admissions rep,one left because she felt the school was treating students unfairly. Tjerdine did you do the lpn program there or just cna?

Pccti review Updated information 2013
