  1. I don’t plan on med school but I learned so much from this post; I agree her horizons are broader and she has more opportunities !!
  2. I would say go where your heart is telling you to go and have no regrets✨
  3. I am searching for a cost effective DNP program where I can transfer previous credits and finish quickly;
  4. The program went well I did have trouble with preceptors finding them and then some backed out; the classes were great, some fabulous instructors; I went to graduation in Maine; I’m glad I found the college and after a long search I found it here on allnurses.com I would highly recommend, after graduation I studied Leak and Fitzgerald and passed the FNP certification; it’s been 5 years and I just renewed my ANCC certification; strive to be dedicated, work hard and you will cross the finish line!!

I think smiles are important, and when nurses are under stress its not easy to smile, but it can make a huge difference, I have found...a smile conveys that the other person is important and worthy, and these are traits that many can appreciate....

Congratulations on achieving your RN, that is a real milestone I think In reading your post it can hurt to be dismissed by a patient; one thought came to my mind and I do not know if this applies to your situation or not..."people don't care how much you know, they just want to know that you care" In my personal situations, i have found that sharing some aspects of myself seems to break the ice. I once took care of a lady and things were going rough until I showed her a picture of my cat (he was a kitten at the time) Mikey...from there it was smooth sailing Good Luck to you as i am sure you are a wonderful nurse, otherwise you would not be a nurse!!!
  7. I take the ANCc cert exam Aug 20 of course I am nervous but using affirmations such as a big screen in my mind with Affirmations that told me I can succeed I can do it I know the answers all the answers are within Also I read the Fitzgerald from cover to cover I too have to do The questions three times have already done them once so I have two more times to go also bought the Leik book and am finding that book extremely helpful I really think the Leik is a better book because it is very intensive shor, to the point but we'll see when I get to the test I will be praying very hard to pass and I will also pray for you as well good luck and God bless
  8. I finished the FNP program in March 2015 It was tough but I have no regrets and am taking the certification exam in August☀️
  9. There are a couple hoops to jump through it seems like it's gotten a little bit tougher I enrolled in 2011 because of the costs and it was also user-friendly; recently finished my thesis and am now taking my very last clinical will be finished March 2015 I think have grown a lot from the nurse practitioner program you learn to be self reliant and do some deep digging for the courses but it is just going to assist you in providing excellent patient care as a nurse practitioner which is and was my goal
  10. Well got the grades about 1 week ago after calling the assistant director...am paying it for it now as on unit 3, (which I worked very hard on) was issued a C, "not enough blackboard posts"...well feel the same way just want to go off on them but staying professional....actually think the C maybe was a bit of retaliation there for me complaining, but 7 weeks is a long time....
  11. Thanks for the info Tracy your posts are very helpful, as is canchaser both an inspiration...I can relate to get the heck out...I learn more here than from the advisor
  12. I can understand nervous but stick with it, you have really gotten far...not much more to go...
  13. Tracy regarding the 20 tests, where did you purchase them from, was it Fitzgeralds?
  14. there is a research project or a paper..or is it both...I have to ask this question because am not sure.... also exactly how many pages should a good capstone project consist of??
  15. Thanks your post have been a great inspiration also along with canchaser........I did something unbelievably not smart....chalk it up to working night shift and doing NP school, my 1st theory I did not finish all the modules in time and got issued a WF, back in May.....I should have applied for an extension for 1 month...now am suffering because I renrolled, got the same instructor and its been 7 weeks now, no grade, no feedback....to say I feel controlled and dangling on a string is an understatement...have been in touch with the advisor but that is not really effective...today emailed the program co director to find out why no grade in over 7 weeks...wondering what the strategy here is....seems so unusual....should not have let this happen in the first place and just can not seem to get back on track...taking the first clinicals and after being an RN for all these years, I hate being a student....
  16. canchaser, I havent been to this site in a while...congratulations on finishing at St. Josephs,,,,all your posts were such an inspiration...it has been a rocky road, am in the first clinicals
  17. congratulations!! also to the student who passed Boards...
  18. Thanks for the info Shannon,,,,there are hiccups :)
  19. re the above, I got in touch with my adviser at St. Josephs and she really came through for me.... how is everyone else doing in their classes?
  20. sorry to get back here so late, thanks for the info canchaser, because I would not have contacted the clinical advisor without your input...that is why it is a good thing for this thread, lots of details.......how is your clinical going? glad to know I should be getting things in order with the 4th and last didactic class....how are the clinicals going for others at St. Joseph's??? any suggestions, comments, feedback??? I had a few issues with the policy course, papers graded late and such...contacted my advisor who really came through for me...
  21. I am taking policy and it is not going so well, the assignments are not being graded in a timely manner, it is a lot of waiting; the first topic I presented was not accepted so in presenting a new topic had to wait for approval, then got penalized on the grade because of the late submission; the instructor does not communicate, she just cc's the advisor; it seems the strategy is, communicate late, send a grade late and it wont be a fair grade for the hard work put into topics and/or projects; the last 2 classess, things went very well, this instructor is very surprising, does not email back, does not seem interested; I am glad to see the post on the school policy because the last news I received (from this instructor) was that an entire module had to be completed before anything was graded, that seems ridiculous to me, especially when you are waiting for approval on a letter to a legislator...it really holds things up, is that the goal? hold the student up? seems that way with this course... at least with the school policy I have some ammunition....
  22. Where exactly was your cohort formed? how many students does your cohort consist of and what did you have to do prior to entering the cohort?
  23. Thanks to Tracy for the update on clinicals; I am starting the policy class and have 1 more didactic class to go. Was concerned about the GRE requirement and called the school, it does not apply to students already accepted. Feel confident that the school is accredited and we can take the Board Certification. Still feel fortunate to be accepted by St. Josephs. Because of Tracy's info now know, it is best to start looking for preceptors in family/urgent care initially. Still not sure regarding the cohort issues, does that translate into a group of several students who have preceptors? as an individual student, does that mean a delay until several more students have found their preceptors? Hoping we can keep in touch and continue sharing experiences. So far so good with myself, however have not entered that clinical realm as of yet.
  24. and yes most of the work is online also, St. Joseph's has an outstanding virtual library:)
