  1. if a patient is ordered 25mcg of fentanyl times 3 doses till pain free q 10 minutes... can you draw up the whole vial of fentanyl 100mcg and then hold the rest and give the followup administration from that same syringe to the SAME patient as long as the med syringe is sterile capped between each dose?? i cant find squat that says you cant or that you can... it just states cant be done on multiple patients and a single dose vial should not be reentered multiple times for the same patient. I dont work in an OR but dont they give sedation from a syringe and titrate the dose?? do they never disconnect??
  2. 3prn... I'm jealous. Your very experienced and probably a wonderful wonderful nurse.
  3. shoot a letter to the board... anonymously ... from the perspective of the patient and with what you have heard.
  4. what a nightmare, i hate the gowns but its like one post said... we wouldnt skip the condoms. we use all disposable cuffs on each patient its attached to the bed. . each iso room gets a new curtain and a quality housekeeping cleaning (cough cough) We only isolate if the mrsa is less than a year old. Infectious Disease in my hosp doesnt believe in isolating if older than a year.
  5. I had to google fomites... lol... :)
  6. i would ask someone who had been out on leave if they had to catch up paying their health insurance premiums. my work pays you vacation time till exhausted then they have extended sick time bank and then our state disability kicks in. also many hospitals have the disability insurance you can sign up for and its usually very minimal. ask the rep if theres a waiting period for claims.
  7. Well.... I thought long and hard and yes... I agree... I have to keep him tucked away as a memory. I did not go see the patient. We both live in the same town and I'm sure... if God or whomever wants us to meet again... we shall do so at shoprite. lol. thanks for all the thoughts.
  8. i dont know... it was so weird... the last thing i asked him was what did he think about people who die and come back and say they can talk to angels and dead people.. he raised his hand and said thats all a bunch of crap and laughed... the whole event freaked me out. ive been a nurse for over 8 yrs and this is the only time a patient abruptly coded on me... i usually see it coming. thanks for the advice
  9. so a patient and i had a talk about heaven..( i dont know how we got on the topic) ... then suddenly 2 hrs late he went into vfib. we shocked him and he came back. for hours i thought maybe i did something wrong... but we have med scanning and he got only po k for a k that was low normal and a pudding snack... it has profoundly affected me... he came back and hes was fine... 100 percent baffled .. but fine. i want to call him at the other hospital we transfered him to ... is that inappropriate??
