Ahhh ok, wasn't sure if they still did that. I remember back in my STNA days we had to train all these people who were waiting to take Boards. Thought it was strange, but some of them really needed that experience! LOL

Hello all! It's been awhile since my last post...I graduated from an ADN program this past week, so I am officially a LPN/ 'graduate nurse'. :-) I'm wondering if I can start applying for jobs now, even though I haven't taken Boards yet. I plan to take it in July, but money has been a little tight so I'm not sure of an exact date yet. Should I just wait until after I take it or can I start applying now? What are the chances of me getting hired because of this?

Hello nurses!! It's been a while since I've checked in...well my question is about insurance & going PRN. I'm currently on medical leave from my job, and am set to return next week. I'm also in RN school full time, and it's been a struggle to keep up working 3-11. Going PRN has always seemed like a wonderful idea, but I really need insurance- especially now with my medical issues. Does anyone know of a good company that offers insurance for PRN nurses?

I signed up with The Network as well around Memorial Day, and after reading posts about them here, I canceled by that Thursday. Work fast if you choose to go another route...you only have 3 days to cancel your contract.

:redbeathe I am a VERY PROUD graduate of CSPN (April 09), and yes- it is a no nonsense school. It is not an easy program, but they have a great reputation. Only the strong survive there. The instructors are OUTSTANDING :yeah:and are more than willing to help, but it starts and ends with YOU. You have to want it and put the work in. In 1st level, my class was a total of approx 45 people, and 28 of us graduated- along with 2 other students from the class before ours. It was rough...there were many tears and many panic attacks (at least for me lol), but at the end it was soooooooo worth it! You walk away with a great education and life long friendships. BEST OF LUCK TO YOU!!

LPN in Cleveland OH, 2 years experience @ LTC facility- $22/hr including $2 shift diff working 3-11.

First off, congrats on passing Boards!! I'm shocked to hear you can't find a job in Houston!! When I graduated in 09, there were NO positions open to new grads where I lived- very discouraging. I started to expand the search and there were pages and pages of LVN positions in Texas, LTC to hospitals...I almost moved there, but I was finally able to find something here in Cleveland after a 3 month search. I say just start going to different places, giving them your resume- even if they aren't hiring or want 2 yrs experience. You never know what may come of it. Good luck to you, nurse!! :redbeathe

Thanks for your imput on this matter. There are about 2 or 3 of my classmates that are constantly fighting and/or arguing with faculty, and it is BEYOND annoying. But in this matter, I really do feel it's a waste of time since ALL the ITT nursing programs have this policy now. Ugh...it's going to be a LONGGGG 2 years if this keeps up! LOLOL

helloooo nurses! i am currently in itt-tech's rn program, 1 semester in. when we first started, we were told anything below a c would place you on probation, but then we were told starting 2nd semester on, only a b or higher would allow you to continue...and my classmates are very upset by this and want to fight the school on it- but i'm not sure what the problem is. don't most, if not all rn programs require you to maintain a certain grade point average to remain in the program?? i know there are some that want you to have a 3.0 to even be considered! is maintaining a b average too much to ask of a rn program??

Oh how I miss 12hr shifts!! My current job only offers 8hr- and of course I got stuck with 3-11. I just finished my 1st semester of RN school @ ITT-Tech, and it was ROUGH! Get out of class @ 12:45- go home changes clothes, eat, walk the dog, then leave for work- back home around midnight (if I"m lucky)- force my tired self to study, but can't stay up too late or I'll oversleep and be late for class @ 8am....UGHHHHH!!! When I went to LPN school, I lived w/ my mom and only worked weekends...this time around, it's a whole new ballgame. I'm single so I have to work or I don't eat or have a roof over my head, and my work schedule isn't very flexible, so that doesn't help matters. The job market for LPN's is so crappy here though, so no matter what it takes I HAVE to make this work. Best of luck and much love to you on this journey...

When I was looking to start RN school, the waiting lists were out of this world! But to get my foot in the door, I went to LPN school- graduated in 09. Only problem was finding a job afterwards. Most of the facilities here want you to have experience, which of course you can't get until someone HIRES you LOL, but it worked out well eventually. It was definitely worth it. I just recently got into an RN program, but they don't accept any of the classes I took @ LPN school because they are clock hours (??) and don't transfer- which means I'm not eligable for a Bridge program. Luckily I already had a lot of the general ed courses; english, psych, etc, but still need A&P II and microbiology :chair:. So if you do go for the LPN, make sure the classes you're taking will allow you to do a Bridge program! Good luck!!

Hello nurses!! I do apologize for late response, but YES- I was able to cancel my contract without any issues, and after a few weeks received my refund. My ties are officially cut from those people! Yayyyy!!! SO thankful to you all for putting this information out there. I've steared a few of my friends away from them and programs like it as well. I'm currently in the RN program at ITT-Tech. 1st semester down, 2 A's & a B+....but a full time school schedule has been a challange. Many days I go straight from class to work, so I have to work much harder to keep up with homework. Just trying to keep my eyes on the prize, though.
