New Grad friendly hospitals?
google NEw Grad RN Programs, Residency, Versant. Start looking at the hospitals listed and look for the application dates, requirements and start dates. Make a list of the hospitals with the application dates. I got a job with UCLA and I start their new grad program in Feb. Apply early, the first day, as soon as the application opens up. Another hospital I had applied to, only looked at the first 500 applicants. Start early, stay organized, and apply early. Some hopsitals let you set up a job profile, which will make the application process easier. Set reminders about the applicaiton dates. I forgot one hopsitals application period and applied the last day. I would go to the hospitals web page and read their mission, values and nursing mission statements, copy and pasted it into a word document. For each hospital I would do this and also include when the application period was, their requirements and program start date.

I start nursing school in a week!
Stay organized. Know all your due dates, and test dates. It is easy to get overwhelmed and stressed out. Dont get caught up in the drama and conflict with other students. It is so easy to get sucked into this and it really takes away from school. People complained about everything and anything, but always look at the big picture. You are doing this because you want to be a great nurse. Just like what Memories said, I remember thinking about how excited I was when I got my acceptance letter. I would think about this when I was down and out or beyond stressed out. Never take your eyes off the prize. Ask questions, clarify early if you any concerns. Always seek out new learning experiences, as a student we always want to know ok what time are we going home, I hope we go home early. Remember that everything you are learning now will make a difference in your future nursing practice. I wish you the best of luck :)

Test Taking strategies
Make sure you always go with your gut response and dont change it after that. Read each questions carefully first. Dont skip any words or assume what the question is asking. That use to be my problem. I would read a question way too fast and skip important key words. During NCLEX I read each questions twice, slowly each time. I would ask myself, ok what exactly is the question asking, before I even looked at the answer options. Also, maybe do practice questions. If you have an NCLEX review book, go to the section that your test is on and practice those questions. Plus this will help you when you are getting ready for NCLEX. Hope this helps.

Interview for Neuroscience and Spine Unit
Hi, I am a new grad as well. I got a job at a large hospital on their neurosurgery/ neurology unit in southern california. The new grad program starts in Feb. During my interview, they asked the generic interview questions, tell me about yourself, why do you want to be a nurse, tell me about a time you had a challenge and overcame it, why neuro? They told me they look for new grads that will be open minded, dedicated, energetic, flexibile. They know neuro is a challenging unit and its going to be hard. They want us to ask all the questions we have about patient care. They said some new grads come in thinking they know everything and dont ask questions and thats a huge red flag for them. When the director called and offered me the job, she said she really liked my attitude, and energy. I completed CEU's on neuro patients and put that on my resume that I brought it. I also included it in my "tell me about myself" part. I completed my NIH stroke scale A cert, which they were impressed I had the cert already. Is the hospital your interviewing for a Stroke Center? If it is, make sure you get your stroke scale cert, its free and you do it all online and can print the cert right away. I did not have any scenario questions. I think the most important thing is to make sure they know you will come to work with an open mind, eagerness to learn and flexibile. They also said during the interview, nursing is not just about getting along with patients anymore, it is equally important to get with co-workers and be a great team player. Good luck!!!! :w00t:Might sound cheesy, but right before I walked into the interview I told myself, I got this, I know I will be a great nurse, and this hospital would benefit from having me on their staff. LOL It helped me relax a little and gave me a boost of confidence. Take a deep breath while you are walking back into the interview.

Stress level on a neuro floor
I will be starting the UCLA New Grad Program in Feb and I was hired onto their neurosurgery unit. I am so excited because this is my dream unit. UCLA's offers a year long new grad program which I am happy about because I know it is a difficult unit to work on. I ordered a book to read in the mean time to, Clinical practice of Neurological and Neurosurgical Nursing. If anyone has any advice to help me out as a New Grad, it will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advanced.

Am I making a mistake by enrolling in an ADN program?
I obtained my BSN and was hired by the first hospital I applied too. I know ADN RNs who obtained jobs in hospitals as well. I know BSN and ADN RNs who have not found jobs. I really think it depends on the individual. People can tell who loves being a nurse and has a true passion for this career. While I was in school, I signed up for various job searching sites and I would look at the job positing requirements. Some had specific certifications/ courses they wanted. For example, some job would say BLS required, ACLS preferred. Good luck!!! It is very exciting.

Resume Help- new graduate
For my resume, I changed the template. Instead of listing my experience after the objective, I listed my certifications first. Followed by my education, including honors. Lastly was my work experience. I put my work experience last because I dont have any experience as an RN. I kept my resume to one page, easy to read with built points. Each employer is looking for something different. I think it is equally important to have a strong cover letter. The first new grad program I applied and interviewed for, hired me!!! I wish you the best of luck and make sure you proof read your resume. Make sure everything is perfect.

Applying before you even graduate?
Hi, the job posting will typically state if you can apply before you have your license. I applied and received a job offer before I had my license. The job posting may state, must have license by ____ specific date.

UCLA New Grad RN Program-Winter 2012
Hi Jamie! My name is Cynthia. I met you during the UCLA interview. I interviewed for the Neurosurgery unit, I live in Southern California. Congrats on the job!!! I got the job too :) She had called me on 12/6!!! I am so excited. I passed NCLEX and have my license now. I emailed HR and the Nurse recruiter about the hiring process and the exact start date since I am going to move closer to UCLA RR. I know we can't do our livescan or physical before 30 days of our start date. Do you know any more info about the actual hiring process? I figure we will hear from them in Jan after the holidays...hopefully. I am going on Monday to check out a few apartments.
