I just took training in Syracuse at Iroquois Nursing home but they aren't doing any more for a while... James Square Nursing home is having one soon I am not sure when exactly but its on their website http://www.jamessquare.com it should have it on there. Its a free training :) I live about 40 miles outside of Syrause. and work in Jamesville at Iroquois... It was on their website, I don't know what the cutoff was date wise but I know they do a few a year anyways... You can always call!?

Twenty Five dollars a month is cheap! I would much rather have to pay that then 100's or 1000's of dollars to a hospital or doctor for not being insured, having to pay out of pocket... I think they are lucky to only have to pay that little whether making 8.00 an hour or 20.00 an hour it is affordable vs. not having and paying out of pocket.

Handwashing is one you will get no matter what also patient privacy as far as dignity (knocking on the door introducing yourself and telling them what you are going to do and pulling the curtain and patient safety! Just study study study and try not to be nervous! Sleep good the night before and make sure you eat breakfast it helps trust me :)

Where I work if you are tardy the person on the previous shift in your position is pretty much automatically mandated and you are sent home. There is no reason for tardiness IMHO, I drive 40 miles to work I live in the snowbelt in NY. I figure if I can get to work on time and drive through a blizzard to get there during the winter then I can also be on time any other time of year, only time someone should be tardy at all is a true emergency like something happened on the way in eg: car trouble etc... My work place will fire you for being tardy. Sorry to go off topic with this I am just a stickler for being at least 15 minutes + early to work everyday!

Oh trust me you aren't the only one that is dead when you get out of work... I get up at 5 am and commute I chose days though cause I want to get it done and over with and then come home and relax but I am sooo tired when I come home.. I work in a LTC on a Palliative floor and its always busy. I come home my feet are sore, my back is sore etc.. I take a couple of Ib's and relax and all is well again but you know? I wouldn't change my job for nothing :) at the moment

well restarting as a CNA at the age of 42 but plan on getting my lpn soon!

I had the Transfer from bed to chair. bedpan and making an occupied bed on top of the handwashing and the knocking on the door pulling the curtain

The way our rooms are set up you have to pull the curtain the rooms are huge BUT if someone comes in you will be able to see our residents if someone was walking by their room and another aide comes in or whatever the scenario may be.. You get the picture LOl

yes exactly you don't get in trouble for doing it just for not doing it. We had a list of a couple of things you really didn't need to all of them I questioned anyways cause it was for stuff that I would have closed the door/pulled the curtain for anyways LOl

sit relax and eat lunch, the other 2 breaks are only ten minutes so thats just a matter of going pee and grabbing a sip of water lol

moving from bed to chair on the test we didn't have to pull the curtain but everything else we pretty much had to.. but while providing care or attending to their needs YES always pull the curtain. or close the door etc

Sure I work at Iroquois Nursing Home... I have worked at Suny Upstate they pay awesome...I make 9.15 an hour pay is lower then most places around here BUT they pay fully for your LPN 6 months after you start there... They give you bonuses all the time. the health insurance is quite inexpensive for a family.. The benefits really are super duper. They also treat you like a family! Its a really decent place to be at :)

Most Hospitals won't even look at you until you have at least a years experience, some hospitals might hire you right off the bat. In NY you have to be state certified to even apply in Hospitals (again most places) most LTC's will hire you with or with out Certification they will usually word their ads as CNA preferred or able to obtain with in so many months of hire, When I say New York I am way up past Syracuse

I have been a CNA fora while before this time around I just took the tests a week ago Monday... when we did the skills I was first and the girl that was second was my resident. and then visa versa.. supposedly our skills were "computer picked" but who knows since that day (we had 15 in our class, I tested the first day with seven others. The next day the rest tested.. Every other person on my day had the skills i had and the other half had the skills my person that was my resident had. LOL. anyways Good luck you will do fine!

I tried to do that same thing on the remembering a rhyme but it wasn't working... LOL.. my mind was a mess the day of the test. When I got in the room to do the skills our person from the state gave me this paper with my skills on it and when i saw there was no ROM I was like YESSSS :) LOL
