  1. Thanks Hurt, When you say swap after 12 months in, do you mean to a 12 hour shift employee? Thanks
  2. Are these CA State prisons jobs 8hr or 12hr shifts? Really curious to know because the recruiters aren't letting me know. I have a few lined up in norcal and knowing if they are 8s or 12s will determine if I move forward with interviewing. Thanks!
  3. This thread is great! I wanted to know if the correctional nursing jobs are 8 or 12 hr shifts? I'm planning to relocate to norcal and have a few SP facilities lined up, but the recruiters aren't able to tell me if they are 8s or 12s ??‍♂️ I really want the 12s to keep more days off and pick up when I need it. Looking to you guys for the info. Thanks in advance! Zig
  4. Hi meanmaryjean, Yes, she went to a small private school here in Los Angeles. Do you happen to know why they would ask such a request? She is feeling lost and doesn't know how to move forward. I just want to help her out and see if there is hope. I have searched for schools that offer just a med surg course, but have had no luck. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
  5. Hello, My friend was a previous nursing student back in 2015. Due to unforeseen circumstances, she was not able to take the boards with her class as she needed to tend to her family during that time. Fast forward 3 years later, she applied to the CA BON and she received an email stating that she is not eligible to sit for the board at this time and that she needed to take a med surg course again with out any explanation. She contacted the school that she finished the RN program with and they were also baffled at the response from the board. I wanted to know if there was a school or course that anyone knows of that could assist my good friend in re-taking this med surg requirement that the BON is requesting. Any advice of direction is greatly appreciated. Ziglar1
  6. Just seen this and was excited to hear about it! I was wondering if it is an online program? And do you have to be an Adventist to attend? Thanks and congratulations on being accepted!
  7. Has anyone gained entrance into a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Program with a WGU BSN? If so, which school was it? Really interested in this field and would like to see if I can get pointed in the right direction. Thanks in advance!
  8. I took all my science pre-reqs at West LA college in Culver city. I was able to register to them except physiology. I ended up adding on the first day. Good luck!
  9. It was 12 seats last month. Hopefully it's 20 seats next year
  10. I'm shooting for the cedars cohort in 10/15. Pm me if you want to connect.
  11. I like your positive thinking tsm! I'm thinking the same thing also. I made sure all the paperwork and requirements were satisfied prior to enrolling and provided it all in one file so there was nothing that could be missed. The counselors just told me that they would keep the file active for the following cohorts to come as I made it an importance to me that I would like to apply to all the upcoming cohorts. My friend told me the same thing that they probably have paperwork of other applicants ahead of mine. Now my question in regards to cohorts is if my file will be transferred from clinical site to clinical site or will I have to continue to submit to each cohort/clinical site? I have currently applied into the cedars cohort and the Pasadena cohort. But what's peculiar to me is that when I applied to the cedars cohort, I received a denial email from WGU, but I didn't get one from Pasadena. I was informed from my counselor but I had to hunt this counselor down as she was new to me. My first counselor graduated from the program and I was handed off to another enrollment counselor. Kinda hated that, but oh well. So, with that said, do you think cedars will have my info/application or will I need to fall in line again?
  12. Thanks NurseCastle, I did have that bond with my counselor and she would be able to tell you that I had that right mind set and attitude towards obtaining a position in the program. I was in sales and was very successful at it prior to healthcare and I do have that drive and impact that helps me to stand out. I will wait it out for the next cohort and see what happens. Thanks
  13. Yes I have direct contact with patient care. No feedback as to why I wasn't selected. Just gotta keep truckin I guess. Going to retake my TEAS and see what happens.
  14. I did, to both cedars and pasadena and I got denied. The thing that gets me most is that i have a coworker that has lower scores and grades and he got accepted in. I don't understand. He applied a year ago and got denied. Waited another year and reapplied and got accepted. We both work for cedars. So is there a wait list or something? I really don't want to move and would be willing to wait if there is a wait list, but I really need to get this going.
  15. I found this on the WGU website: WGU is currently recruiting students for programs in Southern California, Texas, Florida, Indiana, and Utah. California opportunites are in Los Angeles, Orange County, and Pasadena. See admissions requirements below. So, are these the only schools offering the BSN-PL? For you UT folks out there, if I move to UT, can I apply before moving or will I need to be a resident first before they consider me? I would contact my enrollment counselor, but Monday is so far away... =D Thanks
  16. Thanks commuter, I currently work for CSMC in West Hollywood, but its so competitive that I don't want to wait. I have a 4.0 and scored an 87 on the TEAS, but because there are like 300 applicants for 12 slots, its just frustrating. Looking to better my odds in a different state.
  17. Hello folks, I'm currently a resident of CA and was looking to relocate to a different state to have access to WGU's BSN pre-licensure program. I cant seem to find the list of states that offer the program. I know UT has them and really considering moving to UT, but am I able to apply before getting accepted into the program or do I need to be a resident first before they consider me? I've heard that other states programs are not as competitive in regards to entrance like it is in CA. Just want to get the ball rolling and if moving to a different state is necessary, then so be it. Thanks in advance!
  18. SBE, I am patiently waiting as well! Like you, WGU is my only option as having a baby and working, it only seems to make sense that WGU fits the schedule very well. I have been trying to get back into my old hobbies to help the time pass and to get my mind off of the suspense as it is killing me as well! LOL! I wish you luck and I hope to make it in the cohort with you! Prayers sent!
  19. Thank you for that post! I will take your advice to heart! I too want to be in the ICU as I believe that is where I belong. Thank you again for that insight!
  20. To the op and the rest of you on this thread that are in or about to start CRNA school, what schools did you apply to/ get accepted to and what region of the country east/west/Midwest/south. I am considering other schools in different regions and was curious to know what schools and regions you guys are in. Thanks, good luck and congrats!
  21. I too was leary on the WGU program, but then I started talking to some new grads and the 5 I write about are at the hospital I work at. I then started to get pumped and felt confident about their program. I cant wait, 2 more semesters then I will be making the phone call. Cheers!!!
  22. Congrats to those of you who got accepted into the program! I was wondering, for those of you who are currently working on the program how does your weekly/monthly schedule look like? I will probably be in next years cohort and wanted some insight on how I should schedule my work/family schedule so that I can start making plans on what to expect. Thanks in advance! Cheers!!!!
  23. I currently know about a dozen WGU BSN grads that are now working as nurses. About 5 of them were working at the hospital that they are at now, but as transporters, logisitics techs, scrub techs and lab assistants. The other half received employment but were never in the medical field prior to their BSN degree. So, I think its well worth it, for the price and time, you cant beat it. My wife and I are soon to be WGU BSN students! Good luck and I know you will get what you are looking for!
  24. Thanks guys for the replies. I contacted my enrollment counselor about a question I had about passing grades and highest gpa I can achieve. She told me that its either pass or fail with the highest gpa of 3.0. I plan on obtaining my crna degree as soon as possible. Being that crna school is very competative, wgu would not work for me as the highest gpa you can get is a 3.0. Goodluck to everyone on their endeavors and stay safe. Thanks again for all the advice.
  25. There are 4 schools here in CA. Here is the link http://www.all-crna-schools.com/crna-schools.html#section4 USC will not recognize WGU. Sammuel Merritt in Oakland will Kaiser/Calstate Fullerton I was not able to get a hold of Loma Linda I couldnt get a hold of them as well. I will try next week and post back a report. I also think that WGU is a good school to get it done and affordable as well. But I think if it is true about the 3.0 GPA is across the board than I cant take the chance. I will confirm with my counselor and report back. Good luck Fcat on your endeavors!
