  1. I took my NCLEX last Friday. Had 221 questions, mostly priority, teaching and delegation. I felt I was guessing at every answer, that is the nature of the NCLEX beast. No answer will look spot on, so try not to doubt yourself. I did and worried myself sick, but guess what...I passed! Good luck to you!:wink2:
  2. :clpty::clpty::clpty: congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. They almost had to have a counceler for me and I didn't even know yet. I remember saying something to the 2 women such as... I think I failed, and left. It was all a blur. It was the most torturous 2 days. Yes...it would be a good idea, but it would definately have it's negatives.
  4. :dncgbby::dncgcpd:congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:w00t:*wine:ancong!::dncgbby::dancgrp:
  6. I will keep you in my prayers. Just a few days ago I was in your shoes. Believe in yourself. I'm sure you did fine.
  7. I took the live Hurst review and basically we got a book and it had a lot of blanks in it and when she talked we filled in the blanks. It was a good review of content, IMO. The way she explained things were simple and no nonsense so that you can easily understand. Once the review was over I got the online review so I could watch more lectures again. You also get questions, a lot of info you will need, lab values, cranial neves, stages of development etc....basically she said everything you need to know for the NCLEX is on the review. I liked it a lot, but I also studied it a lot and we were told if we were going to pass with her review we had to be able to teach the content by heart. On top of the hurst I got the Kaplan q bank for the questions only. I passed. Hope this helps. Everyone learns differently. Good luck to you.
  8. I can appreciate the fact that you have dreams. Everyone should be allowed to follow theirs, but is seems as if your wife is resistant, not of your dreams, but of her fears. Being in nursing school is a different expereince than any other type of college degree b/c you are with your classmates more than your family. I can see how this can cause issues if your wife already has problems. My best advice...get to the root of the real issue or things may not get better, but I sincerely hope they do. Best of luck to you.
  9. 1. how many hours a day did you study? all day everyday with a break every 20 minutes for 3 weeks straight (but i also worked some in that time too and took care of my family ) how many months? only one. i waited to study after i took the hurst review and marlene hurst's philosophy is if you get the content, you can pass. i guess she was right, cause it worked. the book you get with the course has everything in it you need to pass (including a mock nclex) and it was simplified and easy to understand. i read it twice before taking the test. 2. did you use kaplan? i used the kaplan q bank and it helped me a lot. especially the priority questions. 3. if you used kaplan, what were your scores on your qbank? between 54%-65% 4. do you recomend watching the videos on content of kaplan? i never saw any of the videos, but i did watch marlene hurst's videos. 5. did you use the ncsbn "learning extension" site? no 6. did you use lippincott?no mosby's? no saunders? no hesi? i only did the hurst review for content and kaplan q bank for questions and kaplan strategies book to learn the tips and tricks. (i recommend that book!) 7. what do you believe was the most helpful in passing your nclex-rn?? well, i just passed, but what i think helped me pass was understanding the content (hurst) and then applying it with the qusetions (kaplan). i also read every rationale and took my studying seriously. what other advice can you give an nclex-rn test taker who is schedule to take her test on the beginning of november?? try to be as calm as you can when you take your test. i was waayyy too nervous and thought for sure i failed and about had a breakdown. take your time with each question, use your common sense and couple it with what you know. good luck.
  10. congratulations! :yeah: :yeah:i too found out i passed today. it's an awesome feeling isn't it???? you deserve it...we all have worked very hard for this. i am also very grateful to this site as i have been a member since before this long haul. it's always been there for me. luv allnurses. :redbeathe
  11. Does your state participate in quick results? If so you can check the pearson vue site and pay 7.95 to get your results early. If I hadn't checked there I wouldn't already know I passed because my state board hasn't updated yet. Good luck. I will says some prayers.
  12. i just found out i passed too! congratulations!!! :yeah::redpinkhe:bowingpur:lol2:
  13. I can't believe it...I passed!!!!!
  14. Thank you...it has been a really rough road and I wish more than anything that I would pass so that I may move on now. I keep checking the pearson vue site and it only says my results aren't ready. I wish they'd hurry already. I feel I let me anxiety take over and that makes me more upset than anything else. I'm sure lots of people here can understand that. Hopefully by tomorrow I will know for certain....we'll see.
  15. I'm in your boat. I took my NCLEX yesterday and had 221 questions and feel awful about it. I really think I failed. Most of my classmates had 75 too, all passed but one. I studied so much and did so many questions...I think I let my nerves get the better of me and am so dissapointed in myself right now. This waiting is just horrible. I'll say a prayer for you.
  16. Thank you..I know the number doesn't really matter, but somewhere in my heart I feel like I didn't do my best. My nerves got the better of me and by questions 200 I thought I might have a full blown panic attack in my chair! My heart was pounding, my palms were sweaty and I just couldn't think straight anymore. My son was dx with ALL leukemia in my last sem. of nursing school and I feel because of school, new job, orientation and studying for this test I haven't been able to give him the time he deserves. I wanted more than anything to have this finished...sigh. Ironically my very last question before the computer shut off reminded me VERY much of him...I hope that was a good sign. Anyway....thanks for your encouragement....it's a waiting game now.
  17. I feel shell shocked. I took the RN boards today...I had 221 questions (4 hours), mostly priority, teaching and delegation. I had some that I felt were way too easy and those freaked me out. I had only 2 math and about 7 SATA. Anyway....I'm just spent, depressed and just feel down right crappy. I'm almost certain I failed... Does anyone pass with these kind of numbers? I felt prepared, as prepared as one can be anyway. I always did well in school, I don't get it...this is torture. Words of encouragement would be great, because right now it doesn't feel very promising. Thanks for listening.
  18. I know the feeling...I test on Firday (RN) and am VERY anxious and to top it off, I think I may have a touch of the nasty stomach flu too. I took the Hurst Review, read the book again, read the Kaplan strategies book and did about 1500-2000 Kaplan q-bank questions and about 500 of the NCLEX 3500 questions and other miscellaneous questions. I hope it's enough. Everyone in my class has passed except one and I hope I'm not number 2. I think you have a lot of time studying...review content and test on that each one at a time, then just do lots of questions...or so that is what I have been told. Good luck. :nuke:
  19. can someone please explain what the lpn can and cannot do on the NCLEX. I have geen getting many practice questions wrong because I am confused as to their scope of practice in NCLEX world. this info would make my day!! thanks in advance!
  20. i took the hurst review a couple of weeks ago and will be taking the nclex in a couple of weeks and was wondering if anyone took this and if they thought it was helpful for the nclex? i'm wondering if i should only use this material or use others. i'm getting sooo nervous :uhoh21: and don't know exactly how or what to study. any and all advice on how to study and what to expect would be fantastic! thanks in advance.
  21. Thank you all SO much for replying. I guess I have caught a case of the 'paranoias'. I'm taking every precaution to avoid bringing anything home, but having a child with cancer makes me extra nervous about it. I'm working on a general surgery floor right now and would like to eventually transfer to a floor with less "sick" people such as post-partum or something to avoid as much illness as possible. It's not what I want to do persay, but I may have to if it means keeping him healthy. It's just not a good time for me to be a nurse , but because of our financial situation it's a must at this time. I will talk to his Oncologist Monday and see what he thinks and recommends. Hopefully it will give me some peace of mind. Thanks again.
  22. Hello all. I just graduated nursing school in December and as many of you may already know, my 4 yr old son was dx with ALL leukemia in August. He is in remission, but still very vulnerable and is receiving chemo currently and will be for the next few years (protocol). Here are my concerns...I have taken care of MANY pt's with MRSA and I am extra, specially careful, almost to the point of obsessing about my hand hygeine and keeping my clothing and shoes out of contact with my kids. I clean the toilet seat with antibacterial wipes after every use, I won't kiss my son on the mouth "just incase" and I make certain to always wash my towels and scrubs in hot water. I want to love him and give him affection, but I'm afraid I may give him some funk I picked up at work. I see nurses all the time use the poorest hygiene practices (opening doors with their dirty gloves etc...) Eww. Sigh. I'm just so worried about bringing this home to him, because as we all know it's everywhere, even in rooms that don't have those "cute" little stops signs on the door! :angryfire I am not asking for medical advice, but am wondering how many of you have contracted it and given it to your children or someone else? Is there anyone else out there who have an immuno-suppressed child at home like me who also works in healthcare? I'm about to take my boards in late Feb, early March and am truly concerned if I should even continue. I've wanted this for...well, EVER! I would gladly give it up for my son's best interets...I guess I'm just concerned and venting. Am I crazy? Any ideas, advice is welcome. I'm very anxious about it. Thanks in advance.
  23. I must say this.... when my little boy (who is 4 and has leukemia) was hospitalized my husband asked for the bedside commode. My little man went poo and my husband asked for the call bell to tell the nurse to empty it. :angryfire I schooled him on that real quick. "Why would you have the nurse empty that when you have perfectly capable hands?" She appreciated that and me sooo much. It just goes to show that even though others intentions may not be bad, they think a hospital is equivalent to a hotel... live and learn and he did that night.
  24. Well, I think if you could find time and money to devote to their school for 2 + years, then they could give you one night in your honor that doesn't involve the entire college, geez! I got pinned last Friday night (YAY!). It was so emotional for all of us. We all dressed up (not in our whites!) and there was a speech from our class prez & the director of the nursing program...then we watched a slidewhow that me and my friend from school put together, which you can check out on my blog (see my stats for the address). After the slideshow (I think) we were given our pins then said the Nightengale pledge and that was that. OH..and afterwards we had a reception and a meet a greet with cake, nuts and punch. It was very bittersweet and well worth it. I cried a lot, but I'm sappy like that. It's a special night for nursing only, and well deserved since it's the hardest program at the college. I hope you get to have one...let us know.
