  1. Thank you so much!! I am starting nursing school in one week and I have major anxiety. Your tips were definately helpful. We already have about 6 chapters of reading assignments before the first class. How can I prepare for the first class, if I don't know what the instructor will cover yet? Should I start reading or wait till class? Also, I was wondering if you could give me some suggestions on a few other things: 1. What do you think are the best/most essential books (besides the ones that are required) that will help me get through nursing school? I need all the help I can get, as I've been out of school (besides the pre reqs) for over 8 years now. I've already ordered the Saunders NCLEX book, but what about drug books, med/surg, nursing care plan, pocket guides, reference guides, etc. There are so many good books out there, I'm sure, but I can't buy all of them, unfortunately. 2. What are your recommendations/suggestions for keeping organized and what strategies seemed to help the most for notetaking, organizing, etc.? I already bought a few 3 subject notebooks and lots of expandable folders, but that was before I started reading all the posts on here. Now, it seems as if one 3 ring binder or multiple binders (separated by each class) seem to work better for most people. If it doesn't make that much of a difference, then I will just use the notebooks I already bought, but if it makes a huge difference in being organized and prepared, then I will use the binder instead. Would you mind telling me exactly what you used to take notes and organize everything? Do you think index cards would be beneficial as well? Any ideas, strategies, opinions would be greatly appreciated. I'm stressing already and I haven't even started yet!! 3. Did you work while in nursing school? What is your opinion on it? Would you recommend not working and just living really poorly, if you can do that? I have a lot of bills, but I would hate to have work get in the way of my study time, which is way more important. I'm not good with time management, so I'm a little worried. I'm so overwhelmed already, yet so happy and excited to start school! Thank you so much!
  2. Hi all. I was wondering if anyone knew the information on the book that we need for NUR207. I tried to go to the bookstore online today and it isn't working. I was hoping to order it from amazon, but I need the name and author and publishing year, etc. If anyone knows and could tell me, it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  3. Great! Thanks! I think I'm going to take Ethics this summer as well then. Right now I'm registered for Statistics and NUR207 and I'm finishing up Nutrition. Is Ethics hard? I'm definately going to try to get into the Fast Track. I think both the Traditional and Fast Track students are in the same classes. I'm not sure. They might have a few due to the number of people. What is your email, if you don't mind me asking? It's a lot easier to talk through email than through here. My email is [email protected]. Again, Congrats! Go celebrate this weekend! :) Tracey
  4. Congratulations Nick!! Good to hear! So happy for you! Is there a specific campus that you picked? Also, my enrollment counselor said that I need to take Ethics in order to do fast track. Do you know what the exact name of this class is and whether they have it at MCCC or not? She said that fast track and traditional students all take the same classes at the same time. The only difference is that traditional have summers off. So, I can try to get into fast track now or wait until next Spring or so. So, hopefully I'll be in that program as well. But, either way I'm really excited that I got in at all!! Yay, so happy for you!
  5. Me too! Is COM270 the same thing as NUR207? I think so. It's an online communications class that starts July 4th I believe through GCU. I'm very happy and excited that I got accepted, but now I'm wondering if I will still have a chance to go on the fast track program. Keep us posted and goodluck! :)
  6. Hi Nick. Think positive. ------- (enrollment counselor) told me that they won't totally be done with the acceptance process till the end of June, so you still have time. :) They may just be telling some people a little later than others. Who is your enrollment counselor? Mine has not called me or emailed me back in a week, and I've called and wrote her several emails. I'm getting really irritated, as I still need to register for NUR207 and have a lot of questions. Goodluck! I have a good feeling that you will get in for Fall! :)
  7. Hi. I was accepted into the traditional Nursing program for fall, but I'm thinking that I want to do the fast track instead. Nick, who did you talk to about being accepted for Fall? Does anyone know who I could talk to about this? Thanks!
  8. Hi everyone. I was accepted to GCU's Fall traditional program! :yeah:I went to the immunization orientation last Thursday. It was only an hour long and it was only about the immunizations that we have to get. No need to take off work or anything. Nick, maybe you should try to apply to the traditional program. I heard that there aren't as many applicants for the traditional and my enrollment counselor said that it may be possible to switch over into the fast track if you change your mind and want to finish the program quicker. Just an idea. I really would like to finish the program in 20 months, but not having a break at all kinda scares me. So, I'm not sure what I would rather do. I only applied to the traditional because I still didn't take NUR207 or Stats yet, but I'm going to take them this summer before the program starts. I'm just happy that I got in at all. I'm really excited! Out of curiousity, how many of you are working during the program, whether it be part time or full time? I'm definately not going to work full time, but I'm considering doing part time. I just don't want it to interfere with school and not have enough time to study. Do you think it will be best to not work? I'd love to hear your opinions. Thanks! Nick, goodluck on being accepted! Think positive!
  9. Congrats to everyone who has been accepted to the traditional! I got my email yesterday! So excited!! Goodluck to all the fast track applicants! : )
  10. Hi! I plan on taking the Hesi A2 Test within the next few months and I was wondering if I could get some advice on which study guides are the best. It would be nice to just get one study guide that had everything I needed in it to study, but after reading all the reviews it seems like you need to buy more than one to cover all the sections and receive a high grade. I think I'm definately going to use the Evolve Admission Assesment guide. But, I'm not sure what else to buy. Which book(s) seemed to help everyone the most? I don't want to load myself with too much information either. I was thinking that I may also buy either the Kaplan study guide, Barrons Nursing School guide or McGrawhills Nursing School guide. Has anyone used any of those? Which books do you think are the most beneficial for the Hesi test? Are there any other resources that might help? Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! : )
