I agree with CDE. Medtronic is a great manufacturer for pumps and they have educators that will train patient as well as nurses, dr's etc. My son has had a medtronic device for over 4 years now. It is extremely important that prior to the implementation of a pump, the patient must have well rounded education on carb counting. With the high A1C levels, the pump can help with a more continuous control, however, to prevent low's and extreme high's the patient must understand the complexity of Carb counting. A nutritional consult and education would be appropriate prior to starting of the pump. Hope some of this helps!

olivia60, just because an A/P instructor told you he/she "thought" you do not have the right stuff does not mean that you cannot successfully complete nursing. Have you tried volunteering at a local hospital? Volunteering is a great way to get exposure of what it is like in hospital and working with patients. The pre-req's are difficult, but it is not a good measurement of whether or not you will be a good nurse or successfully become one. It is a lot of hard work, but if you have the drive and passion, anyone can do it! Good Luck!

Chi flavored, Yes, the main campus only accepts applicants in the Fall, but Sd and SB accept fall, spring, and summer.

MSizz, Sorry, I have never heard of that online school. You can always check the Florida Sate nurses accreditation to see if the school is accountable. I am on the same boat as you though, I am all about the person-to-person instruction.

If you do look into the online ABSN programs make sure that you identify whether it is accredited and also a lot of them have mileage limitations. I had a friend apply and was told no because she lived outside a certain mile ratius. The school mentioned that the clinicals are with person advisor/mentor nurses at the assigned hospitals and they require that you live within a certain distance. Did the school that you applied to mention why you were denied? The GPA sounds solid and so does the degree as well. And the fact that you have experience as a CNA makes me wonder what the heck they are looking for? Are they based on a point system for acceptance?

I am doing a happy dance because I got an 100% on my O Chem midterm and I find out in a month whether or not I have been accepted into a nursing program. YIPEEE. Hopefully I will have good news to report (fingers crossed)

I know it sounds like old hat, but you have to hang in there! I am in the same boat! I am sick of talking about all the different school's and their guidelines, point systems, etc. The prerequisites are the hardest classses I have ever taken, but the only thing keeping me hanging in there is volunteering at the local hospital. Talking with patients makes it all worth while. Maybe try volunteering for inspiration, the patients always will feed you inspiration and praise. You can do IT!!!!!

I wanted to ask the veteran nurses or a nurse who has had experience in this field before, what I should do or how do I go about finding this information out? If a school is accredited but it is a "christian" private college does that mean that if I go onto a Master's program outside of this school or a nurse practioner program does that my BSN classes count? Is there a state site that you can find online or do you go directly through the future college to find out? Does anyone have experience with private religious colleges and whether they have different requirments or qualifications that does not transfer or are not accepted in other universities? If it is state accredited it should work, right? My BSN should be cleared and I should be able to get into a master program from another university, right? How can I find out the info I need? I would appriciate all the help I can get before I make the big decision.

I am starting nursing school and the local bookstore is going out of business. Do you have any suggestions for books that might help while in the program? Recommendations? I do not have my book list yet from the school, but I know there are some extra books out there that possibly was essential for your education. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks.

Did you have a phone interview once you applyied? Did they tell you thath you were accepted?

I do not know anything anout the school you are mentioning. What I would do is go under the tab "region" and click on the location where you are and search specifically for your school. You will find postings from current students and student who are working on enrollment and they should be able to better answer your q's. Good luck!
