Reccomendations for post immunizations??
The use of fever reducing medication has been discouraged for a few years now as studies showed it may interfere with the immune response needed for effectiveness of the vaccine. The only exception I am aware of is if the child has a history of febrile seizures or a fever greater than 100.4 after administration.. As a nurse who routinely gives vaccines it is my job to answer questions parents may have and I want them to know what we are giving their child and why.

Nursing Salary Survey 2014
I have been reluctant to join these polls in the past but am now motivated by what being an LVN has meant to myself and my family and want to encourage anyone who thinks it may be right for them. 1. California 2. 40.33 hour with full health benefits, a pension plan, 8 paid holidays, 108 sick hours and 3 weeks paid vacation per year. 3% pay raise per year and performance bonus. 3. Pediatrics 4. LVN 5. Certificate with an Associate Degree. ACLS, PALS, PEARS. I also take any certificate courses/tests offered by employer to RN's. 6. 22 years 7. Full time 8. Day no eves, nights or holidays 9. I would get shift differential if I chose to work additional shifts. 10. Not a manager of supervisor I work for a large employer in a Union facility, I work as I would want a nurse to take care of my child and love what I do. I have been grateful to those who have made our job compensation what it is, and yes they are still hiring LVN's currently. Take anything to get your foot in the door, then use bidding rights to move up in hours or transfer anywhere they have facilities. LVN's are currently offered bonuses in hard to fill regions or with second language skills. Not an ad for employer just anticipating questions.

Continuing Education credits online
I love NetCE.com. You can complete everything online including print certificates. When you register they keep online transcripts you may view and print anytime. I have used no one else for at least a dozen or more years.

Kaiser Permanente LVN
Take any position posted. Almost every LVN hired I'm aware of in the last few years started as on-call or short hour and worked as much or as little as they wanted. One on-call had no idea she would be called as often as she is, she is now eligible for conversion. Also some changes may be coming in skill mix (number of RN, LVN and MA) in the clinics so stay on top of new postings. Good luck!

Ca. Nurse Assn. has a new affilate...
They will not share assets? CNA loaned 2 million dollars to NUHW. These two unions have been affiliated for much longer than most are aware of.

LPN JOBS IN VA HOSPITALS OR MILITARY AS A civilian
American Hospital Service Group does indeed have jobs for LVN's and LPN's, I found them easy to work with. Don't believe everything you read, check for yourself. Good Luck

Is this a med error on my part?
The NP wrote the order is what you stated initially. I would not assume anything (no orders for meds because nothing delivered) pharmacy could have dropped the ball. It is our responsibility to follow through. I hope it works out.

Sympathy strike...would you do it??
Surprises? Unfortunately nothing these involved unions do surprises me anymore. There are questionable motives and self-serving actions shared across the board. I was only clarifying that this srike is not about the LVN's MA's, Clerical Receptionists etc., they have a contract, they are not part of this planned strike. But you have my interest with the amazing tape recording comment. Where can I hear this for myself?

Sympathy strike...would you do it??
I wanted to correct the statement that the strike was/is about Kaiser trying to take away benefits from LVN,MA's clerks etc. The strike was/is about supporting a small group that broke away from SEIU-UHW and formed a much smaller union NUHW. SEIU-UHW members (LVN's, MA's, Reception/Clerks, EVS, etc.) have a contract in place that protects wages, medical benefits retirement and working conditions. NUHW has not been able to secure a contract since splitting from SEIU-UHW and is using its relationship with CNA to attempt to put pressure on the negotiations. CNA is asking it's RN's to support NUHW in sympathy. I wonder why the relationship between these two unions has not been questioned. Now another one day strike has been scheduled for Jan 31. Most of the RN's I work with opted to come to work last go round and do not support the upcoming one.

Role Call...California LVN's
I recently stumbled on this org while on the web. I was surprised to find 58th annual convention this year practically at my back door. Tried to call with no return phone call. Mgr would have given day off to attend if I could register. I have been LVN for 20 yrs and union member. This group has an opportunity to organize LVNs into a collective force if interested, I would love to support an org that promotes and protects the LVN practice. I spoke with no less than a dozen of my co-workers (all working LVNs in Ca) not one was aware this group existed.

Kaiser LVN's
I've worked at Kaiser 10 yrs +.I am always looking at other opportunities but have yet to find any that would make me leave. I too started as an on-call quickly bid up to short hr and then full time. The benefits of staying w/KP have been greater than what's in the market today although...I am starting to get postcards and letters from CHW and Sutter touting opportunities with them. Who knows what could happen?

Future of LPN?
I was surprised to read that I no longer work at Kaiser through this post. It's true that some positions have changed and have not seen the same levels of opportunity once experienced by LVN's but I just finished orienting three new LVN's to our dept. I also want to thank the post that clarified the nurse/patient ratios ie: licensed nurse it does not say RN only anywhere in the bill/law.
