  1. mjgernurse, How long is this program? and are you required to find your own preceptors? thanks
  2. You may need to contact Ms Nunnery cuz she emailed us like 2 weeks ago wit the details of where we are to be and even wear. Definitely call her tomorrow if u didn't get that email.
  3. Ya I was too nervous to do the PVT so I had one of my friends check for me over the phone since I was bout to have a panic attack! Got the good pop up but u still feel like u may be that one exception!...Good luck stay encouraged!
  4. I just took mine today as well and didn't feel confident at all walking out of there. So here I am on allnurses researching this PVT just to feel somewhat at ease. I also got the good pop up and finished at 75 and am just in disbelief since the test made me feel like I didn't even go to nursing school! But all my classmates as well say the same thing that it works... Those in my class who have tested already and passed got the same pop up!! These next 48 hrs still gonna be long tho ugh!
  5. I have not heard from her. I did speak with her couple weeks ago about license stuff and she said she would be in contact closer to our start date. I wasn't really expecting anything until February to be honest. Didn't know she was gonna contact in January lol
  6. I'm not moving until Feb myself since I'm still workin and the ED doesn't start til 24th. Not sure how the rhythm test is but they have a study booklet on the site if you don't already have it.
  7. This was inspiring! Congratulations! I also have kaplan, saunders, and lippincott and test in January!
  8. this post was helpful! thanks yall!
  9. I also plan to test in January 2014 and bought the 6e recently, I plan on studying front to backwards in addition to kaplan since its offered by my school oh and lippincott. I did not have a saunders book which was why I got the 6e but i'm sure the 5e is just as good and efficient!! GOOD LUCK
  10. Thanks for this review! My school offers kaplan and since I already paid for it! plus my weakest I feel are meds so i'm glad Kaplan reviews that! Thanks again for this awesome post..very helpful!
  11. Ya definitely do the interview then go from there! Congrats and good luck!
  12. Speaking as a new grad who just accepted an ED Residency position I think you never know unless you try really, however I do think its a great idea to apply to internships/residency programs as they are specifically open to new grads since you'll get some good training and its a great way to break into a specialty so i've been told. Good luck in your endeavors hun whatever field you start in i'm sure your gonna ROCK IT! Congrats on your spring graduation as well!
  13. Hello everyone and Congrats on your acceptances!!! I just found this thread! THANK GOD since I was accepted into their ED residency program as well!!..i am moving from out of state and know NO ONE but i am beyond EXCITED! I wanted an internship and I wanted it in the ED! I guess i'll be seeing you Steph001 in february for orientation!! CONGRATS again everyone! hopefully i'll get to meet all of you!
  14. Just like the previous poster said if u want it bad enough you will do whatever u have to. I also worked well am working full time my entire nursing school career. (Im just goin into my last semester in the next week actually) I'm not sure if u could switch around ur schedule to work possibly only weekends or something else but I work nights which wasn't great for clinicals or class time but i was determined to make it work. I switched it to wear I worked thurs- sun's so I would have my clinical and class days off. My classmates tell me all the time how they cant believe im working full time and my response is always 'you do what you gotta do'. I'm also paying out of pocket since I have a degree already I didn't qualify for loans at the community college I attend but it was affordable thank God! If nursing is something u really wanna do it will work out as long as u make an effort to make it work. I was there thinking about how your not sure it's gonna work.. But it will if u want it to. I've gone without sleep and missed out on a lot of fun but again in agreeance with the previous poster u just have to put those blinders on do what u gotta do for that time being. It's only temporary. Good luck!! u can do it!!?
  15. Sorry I may have confused you in the end but the earliest you can start if accepted through MERIT is Jan 2012 (if you are accepted into the nursing program and apply for MERIT by june 30, 2011). Fall 2011 is impossible from what I was told by the nursing dept in orientation. They are no longer accepting MERIT applications for that session, last time was oct 2010 I believe. Sorry if I confused you at first!
  16. to jennynav82, hey i just attended the orientation session for the mtc adn nursing program and my start date is jan 2013. to answer your question there is no possible way for you to start this fall 2011 but quite possible for jan 2012 if you have already been accepted and are applying for merit. merit as some of people commented earlier is basically bumping your start date up an entire year. so one must have already been accepted into the program. with all your pre reqs done i'm sure you stand a great chance at starting early but you must be accepted into the program first. the deadline to start jan 2012 is june 30th for the merit program.(that is apply to the college of nursing first then apply for merit) that is the only way you can start that early at mtc that is. another college is a different story. hope this helps if you hadn't already taken the advice of the previous commentor on talking to ms. boufawaz. i too have a bachelors but in biology and am currently working on the rest of my pre-reqs and i plan on applying for merit. to apply for merit you have to have taken bio 210 ( a & p i) and it is based on a point system so say you took bio 211 and got an a then you are awarded 10 pts for that course. i believe the merit gives points based on grades recieved in dev. psych, micro, a&p ii, pre cal, nurs nutrition, and a class at mtc. also if you have a 3.0 from your ba degree that adds 10 pts. to get the details you should visit the website and click on the merit info. again, it is the only way you can start jan 2012 or fall 2011 because those seats are already filled but they save like (8-16???seats don't quote me) for merit accepted students for the jan 2012 session. hope this helps! good luck! :-)
  17. Hey AshleyPCA, I'm in the same boat. But I graduated in 2008 with a BS in Biology. To answer your question yes their are direct entry DNP programs out there. The university I graduated from has one, University of South Carolina (columbia) and I believe University of Portland. Their programs are like 5 years long or so but within the first 1 1/2-2 years or so you earn your RN and begin working while you complete the graduate portion. I'm not sure of any others, I found it hard to find any other programs to be honest. I was looking up direct entry MSN programs and found myself on the university of Portland website and saw their program, I was beginning to think USC (south carolina) was the only one who had a program like this. My high school classmate was just accepted into USC 's program but i beleive they only accepted 8 people for this spring that is. I applied but was denied so i'm focusing on direct entry MSN programs. I was accepted to an ADN program here in columbia SC but like you I too feel as if i would be going backwards. But i'm determined to become an NP with a DNP and will do whatever it takes to get there. I also want experience as a nurse in order to be a more efficient NP of course, so i guess its not too bad since i would have more experience before reaching my end goal, but i would also like for my current bachelors to count for something..lol. Anywho....the next deadline for USC (south carolina) for Fall 2011 is May 1st and for spring 2012 its Dec 1st I believe. oh ya! Case western university (i forgot!) sort of has a direct entry DNP its like 3 different entry points/stages. First you get the MN which prepares you for work as a nurse then you get the MSN (specialty option) then you continue on to get the DNP. Once admitted initially you are automatically admitted into the MSN and DNP programs. Its called the graduate entry program. Look it up and get the accurate details I'm just going off of memory here. I thought about applying there but its so expensive...duno though. Hope this info helps! Monah86
  18. hey lbuac! this is actually my first post on this site but i too can relate to your story. i'm wanting to apply for summer 2012 also! my gpa isn't all that great either (i worked a lot my undergrad career as a cardiac care technician at a hospital, worked around nurses for about 5 years)i actually have a cum gpa of 3.2 which i'm not even sure if they take the cumulative (grad and pre-req courses at 2 other schools) or just my undergrad from my bachelors? i'm currently finishing up my pre-reqs this year too. i'm applying to other programs but this program is definitely on the top of my list so im also wanting anyone's input on my possible chances and info on their experience if they've completed or are currently in the program. i would like to apply to an absn program but my financal aid is very limited for another bachelors degree and wont cover it all if i pursue one. with the direct entry msn program at least your current bachelors will count for something lol. hopefully we'll end up being classmates...lol...good luck with your pre-reqs and apps!!
