LPNs Often Fare Better Than Some Degree Earners
I'm a CNA and for the past 2 years,I have been in and out of college and jumping from one major to the other because I wasn't sure what I wanted to do,I wasn't completely happy with any major. I just knew that everyone was expecting me to go to college. I jumped from going for my RN to wanting to get a grad degree in OT,to accounting but always in the back of my head I was thinking of becoming an LPN. I applied and was accepted to a tech school for LPN but because of personal issues,I dropped out. I am too late to apply for the September 2012 classes, but I plan to apply to some tech schools near by who offer LPN for their September 2013 class. I'll be 25 next month, and I'm tired of going to college when it's obvious I'm not happy there. In the future maybe I'll go back to get my BSN but for now I'm just focusing on getting my LPN.

Lazy stuck up nurses
I'm sorry if it came off as me saying all nurses were this way. Just venting, I know both sides have good and bad. It is just frustrating and I really don't want to be miserable everyday at work and have a toxic work environment and while I'm at it there is a CNA who has been working there for a long time and is buddies with everyone from the nurses to the DON to the human resource woman and she constantly is in the break room texting. I don't know what to do, and I can't quit this job in such a rotten economy but I don't want to be miserable or confront anyone and be seen as difficult and be iced out by everyone. I'm in a lose- lose situation

Lazy stuck up nurses
I have been working as a CNA for a couple months now at a nursing home, on the rehab floor in the morning. There are four of us for about 40 residents and we usually get breaks and lunch by pairs so there are sometimes just 2 nursing assistants on the floor during that time. The thing that really ticks me off though is that sometimes when I come back from break or lunch there will be a ton of call lights going off and the other 2 nursing assistants are running their behinds off, while the nurses are either sitting on their lazy rears talking about who they are dating, where they are going after work or whatever. It seems they think they are above doing "CNA work", but even worse than that,is what if the resident had an emergency or something and they are just sitting there doing nothing instead of answering a call light! I luckily don't have to go back to work until Thursday, but I don't know how long I can hold my tongue because there is nothing I hate worse than someone who thinks they are better than other people and when their stuck up attitude might cause harm to a resident.

Im 24 and I want to be a nurse badly but my age discourages me!
I know this is a kinda old question, but I was feeling the same way. I graduated at 18, and now at 23 I'm just starting to get serious about school. I got my CNA, which I'm proud of but I keep thinking that those 5 years I wasted I could be done or almost done with school, but I just decided that 23 is still pretty young and I'll get older anyway so I might as well be older with a degree.

What Colored Scrubs Do You Wear?
I plan to get scrubs, that are bright colored on the top and dark on the bottom. I am sooooo glad I am out of clinicals and don't have to wear those stiff plain tops or white pants(I really don't understand why the would make you wear white in healthcare when you can get feces, blood, urine or vomit on them.)

Dutchess Boces Info Please?
I think you will get in, you mentioned on the other thread that part time is full and you are not sure what you are going to do. Maybe you could try a PTA or COTA program you probably have all the pre reqs for the programs. No problem, I like to help especially since not too many people talk about Dutchess Boces on here.

CNA's/PCT's how much do you make?
The job I have yet to start, I will be making $14.00/hr.

Dutchess County Boces LPN 2012?
Well I am looking at Touro College, Suny Stony Brook, LIU, and maybe Russel Sage College( Even though it is super expensive), I think the 53% might be overall, because on some sections I got below a 53%, that sucks that they told you there would be part time spots open and now there are not, would you be interested in maybe getting you COTA or PTA, I do know they have smaller classes than nursing but you might can get in since you already have an associates degree, you probably have all the pre reqs. For whatever reason not too many people on this site are familiar with the Dutchess Boces LPN program.

Dutchess Boces Info Please?
Hi again lol, I wish I could tell you about the clinical sites, I had a paper with where clinicals were but threw it out, but I do think you go to hospitals as well as nursing homes. The tops were dark blue and I think the pants were white(not sure why they are so into white pants! ) The books you can get as you go along, they gave us a site and a code to get a small discount but the discount did not work so I got them on Amazon. I had a stethoscope from my CNA course it might be a good idea to get one to practice on people with, one more thing they are REALLY REALLY strict about cell phones, the school has mostly high school kids so they have issues about that, like people taking pics of the kids without consent(not sure who would do that but whatever lol) You either have to go outside or sneak in the bathroom to use your phone.

Dutchess County Boces LPN 2012?
Hi, I actually have the option of coming back in January for part time, but I declined and I decided to get my associates in science also and transfer to a 4 year college and get my BS in health sciences/ MS in occupational therapy while working as a cna, so I hope everything works out for you and me both :)

Dutchess County Boces LPN 2012?
No problem :) Yes I did end up leaving the program, it would cost too much money for transportation to get back and forth to school. You could probably get a smaller loan than I did hopefully, the math was not too hard I am not too good in math either. I was actually going to go to WCC for LPN too since I have to complete my associates there anyway but if I have to wait for clinicals no thanks lol. The first day though all the students full time and part time have to come in early at like 8 am until either 12:30 or until 3 to hear the person in charge of the program talk (it was so boring), and also make sure you have you CPR by the first day no matter what.

Dutchess County Boces LPN 2012?
Hi I was accepted to the program for the Sept 2011 class, I took a loan for 9,000 and if I recall correctly I got a grant for 5,000. After you take the TEAS they will give you information and papers to fill out for financial aid. Also depending on your score they put you in full time or part time. Either let them know ahead of time you want part time or you can wait until you get your acceptance letter and see which one they put you in, when I took the test she said there might be a waiting list but I did not have to wait at all. Also when I took the TEAS I thought it would be a lot of anatomy and physiology but it was not, only about one or two question were A/P the rest of the science questions were physics and chem. If you have any more questions let me know.

Mid manhattan/brooklyn adult lpn
Hey all I decided to try and get into this program, since i'll be moving to the city next year. Does anyone know what proof you need to bring to show that you are a NYC resident? Will they take my state id even if the id has my old upstate address?

Dumb mistake,help!!!!
Thanks for the answers and congrats everyone , sorry I am just responding (computer issues), I requested a new card and certificate which hopefully will be here very soon. I did not tell the human resources lady that I did not have my card but I asked her why I needed one and she said it was to keep in my file just in case the state came to the nursing home. I am really excited about this job and hope everything works out in time for orientation.
