  1. That is physical and emotional abuse.
  2. There are other facilities that are not so difficult. Where I work they have 2 sections. The short term and long term. The short term is mostly for rehab clients. They are easier to deal with. Then there are assistant living facilities. Also home health care. Presently I am looking into Hospice care. I have heard that you don't have to do much for them. Lady involved in hiring for one said," Working at a nursing home is like doing factory work. I would only have 4 to 6 clients. Do things like read to a client." Just realized this was posted in August. What has happened since then?
  3. How do you deal with a client whom will not let you change them when they are very dirty?
  4. I have made bad mistake and didn't get fired. I think as long as no one got hurt or the clean up wasn't extremely expensive I you won't get fired. Possibly a write up. Just try to get in the habit of looking behind yourself before you leave a room.
  5. I have found that this occurs because therapist doesn't upgrade the info in the ADL book. Thus I go to the therapist to get it upgraded.
  6. Well 5 months have gone by and still barely get done at 11:15. I see there are some things I do that other skip. Like floating the heals and asking the resident if they are comfortable. Even when I just have 6 clients I barely get done. The 6 clients are on the rehab section of building and constantly ask for help. When I have 12 on the nursing side I decide when I help them most of the time. I try to do showers before dinner. Usually only get 1 done. I am at loss as to what to do. Thinking of going to Hospice care. For one, whom hires for Hospice care, said "working at a nursing home is like factory work. Hospice work is different."
  7. I agree with that, thus I get the xrays and go to a chiropractor. Result is I get better faster. Workmen's comp Doctors just seem to push medication that it is impossible to take and work.
  8. Are you certain that they were talking about all lifts and not just the sit and stand lift? For with the sit to stand lift we are allowed to do them by ourselves.
  9. No one I saw has a band ankle sprain. Patient lost balance in bathroom and her foot went sideways as she rebalanced him. This is a no lift facility. Having 12 to 16 patients puts a lot of pressure on you to rush and then accidents happen. My injury occurred while hooking man up to lift for I was leaning forward doing it. Rushing did not move the wheel chair so that I could stand by the side of the patient
  10. I think the herbs are affecting the color of my urine. For I urine test I did at school showed the density to be thick and it is a darker yellow than it use to be. Inconclusive. Heard supervisor saying it looked a little negative but not certain. Well today was my 1st day back to work. I was really scared. They were just uncertain what to do with me. For with me have 5 on light duty now.
  11. Looked at ingredients on homoeopathic for headache I have been taking. First ingredients are: Cinchona officinalis is Quinine Bark Condurango, is South America bark of a vine of the milkweed family Pulsatilla is a species of flowering plant in the family Ranunculaceae orificenicum album derived from the metallic element orificenic This is what probably caused it to be invalid which means low amount of drugs according to Doctor I saw today. I didn't write down anywhere medications I was taking but was asked. Hoping the reason for going to human resources is that they don't know what job to assign me to. For already 3 doing light duty and Doctor not to lift more than 15lbs.
  12. Hurt myself on the job. Was given 2 drug test that night. Both showed invalid. Then the next told to go to an inservice. Was given another test and it showed up invalid. Ask charge nurse if it could because I take Herbs for pain which can be made into prescription drugs. At present haven't been back to work. Saturday told by Doctor not to lift more than 15lb. Called in on weekend and was told to report to human resources Monday. I was not scheduled back to work until Tues thus will be reporting to human resources tomorrow. Has anyone else had a invalid on blood test from pee?
  13. Well there are always some that don't work as a team and will give you a hard time. I had one co-worker that would yell at me at times. Didn't complain about it. Was good for 1 day I needed her help. When 1 co-worker said she would not spot me while I was using the hoyer lift I said," okay, I the next time you ask me for help I will remember this and won't help you. She came and spotted me. We live in a world of meism. Most are looking out for themselves 1st.
  14. Forgot to mention that in the ADL book it says the patient is max lift. No pad was under him for max lift. Couldn't find anyone whom had put a pad for max lift under patient in wheel chair. Co-worker initially wanted me to lift him with him to be. I didn't think I could do it so suggested the sit to stand lift.
  15. The less you complain the better off you are. Just make certain you have done everything you can by yourself. Keep asking and tell them exactly what you need their help with. I have complained about some things, like not having enough trash bags, and now certain people are watching me like an eagle looking for something to write me up on.
  16. Find I only get help if have patient in hooked to hoyer lift. It is because we all have a lot of work to do.
  17. Is the work load that is getting to you. I feel the same for have 12 to 16 patients to care for. Thus switching to home health care.
  18. Well today I strained my back. Did it when putting strap from pad of sit to stand lift on the lift arm. Partner didn't realise I had strained my back. He kept insisting I put the next ring up on the lift. Thus pulled the man away from the chair to get the strap on the arm. Lady visiting next bed got him to leave it where I could put it. Tried to ignore the cramp thus kept on working for an hour. Lady visiting room mate gave me numbers for private care. So maybe I will find a job that I am better suited for. This is really scary.
  19. That reminds of a client I have on the rehab side of the facility. I will keep that in mind next time I have her. For last she kept saying I didn't have the call light and bed remote in the right place. I got so angry I started crying in an empty room. I think in the future I am going to pull the heavy people towards me. Then I can make certain that I don't push their face in uncomfortable position. Also will tell them what I am going to do before I do it.
  20. Forgot to finish she also said, "I was making her very nervous and to never come back to her room." Guess I will be avoiding her for a while. Told her I was sorry but it is 11:00, which is the time I am suppose to leave. Then said, I would continue going slower. I think what really disturbed her is that I pushed her butt up to get a brief under her.
  21. I had a client complain I was going to fast. I am barely getting done in time so I am moving as fast as I can. All I did was push her but over to get brief under her. I am at loss as to what to do. How do you deal with difficult people?
  22. I have been doing the hoyer lifts by myself lately. For other CNA's told me to do so. Now I will think twice.
  23. We can only leave enough for each patient. I have been bagging for each room in 1 bag and a coordinator didn't like it. Problem for me was getting person up. Last shower took me 20 mins to get her up. The dinner was brought in and I had to stop. She stank and her room mate complained. I kept telling her I couldn't do anything since the dinner was there. She left her room and ate in dining room. Eventually she stopped complaining. Then when do you put linens and briefs out for the other clients?
  24. Yeh I think I need to go to assisted living home. Working in nursing home section is killing me. For if I don't get to eat by 7:30 I start getting shaky. For hip pain stretching right to left standing helps. For upper back pain stretching between a door helps.
