I've never been contacted by anyone concerning my application so I don't know what my weaknesses are.

So I've been at my facility for about 8 years. For a while now I've been trying to get into a particular department. In 8 years, I've applied for a position about once or twice a year. As a matter of I fact, I stopped applying this year because I came to the realization it's just not meant to be. Anyways, I got called in for an interview on this unit this week. Immediately after sitting down the first thing the manager said was "I've received several of your applications over the years." She sounded really annoyed and let out a big sigh. So my questions for managers, Is it really a bad thing to continuously apply to a job? Do you guys ever get annoyed from the same person applying?

I walked in to introduce myself during change of shift and the patient promptly pressed her call light to request another nurse and stated the reason was "I don't associate with n******". I swapped with another nurse. I don't have time to put up with ignorance. Unfortunately I've encountered this more than once in my nursing career of only 5 years.

OUCH!!!!

The youngest grandmother I met was 26. She had her daughter at 13 and her daughter had a son at age 13. The grandmother bought the baby into the ER for fever, while the mom was at an after school program. When she said "grandmother", I stuttered a little bit due to shock! I'm 29, and I can't even see myself with my own kids yet...most definitely not a grandchild!!!

Me: "Hi, my name is Dazglue and I'll be your nurse tonight. Can I get you anything right now?" Patient: "I don't associate with black people." After that she promptly pressed the call light requesting a new nurse.

Are you serious?

Did we use to be co-workers? Lol. Seriously, while I was on orientation, I had to be charge nurse with making assignment's, having a full patient load of around 6-7, handling all types of emergencies clinical and non-clinical, be present for all codes and rapid response calls, all while only being a new grad of only a few weeks. Problem with the schedule? Co-workers would go tattle and then I'm summoned to the office to be reprimanded. UGH! After 4 years, I'm still trying to get off of this unit!

We get these kind of patients on our floor and I work in a skilled nursing facility. I'm constantly fighting with our house supervisor and admission coordinator when we get patients like this.

I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE THAT DID THIS! Lol.

Oh my goodness! What is your problem? I commented my personal opinion on a thread and I NEVER referred to you and you just came for me! You are free to state your opinion (just like I did) but don't get smart with me. Just make your comment and carry on....

Excuse me? I was just referring to the policy at my facility and the consequences. And if you can't read that sign then yes, you will get fired. No need for a smart mouth response. Jeez.

Someone did this at my job...they were promptly fired the next day. We even have a sign that says "No firearms or any type of weapon allowed inside facility" on every entrance.

I'm awake now because while I was sleeping I heard a bed alarm go off. I jumped up off the couch to catch the patient before they fell. My stumped toe did not appreciated that. Earlier today, my mom called and I answered, "skilled nursing, this is dazglue. How may I help you?"

Well, my Friday the 13th hasn't started out too good. I was supposed to work tonight but had to call out sick. I'm not the superstitious type but considering we're at full capacity I'm glad I'm dodging a possible bullet tonight.

Doable? Yes. Would I recommend it? No. I had a healthy classmate get pregnant during nursing school and because of a difficult pregnancy, she delivered early and had to drop out 2 weeks before finals....of our last semester. She was able to graduate a year later but you never know what might happen.

Nothing. Along with a full patient load as well. The only things I get extra are a headache and stress due to having to be the charge nurse whether I want to or not.

If my job calls me, I rarely answer. If it's important they will leave a message. 99.9% of the time they just want to know if I'm willing to come in to work, and my answer is almost always no because I enjoy my off days.

Yeah, after we are written up we have to make it up by working a 2 day weekend or a holiday, usually she picks the 2 day weekend to make up. I understand that there has to be a punishment, especially if it is repetitive behavior. There have been times I'm "called off" so a nurse on the other rotation can make up his or her call out. So I get shorted days and have to use my ETO/PTO for this to happen. It's just a big mess!

Incident report filled out, everything handled as far as workman's compensation goes. Still an automatic write up because it happened on the weekend.

Thanks for the responses. It's good to know this is not "common". I am currently looking for a new job. Recently I sprained my ankle by assisting an overweight patient, of course on a weekend shift. We did not have enough staff. Only 3 people to help, usually have at least 5 staff members. I had a doctor's excuse and I could not even put pressure on my leg. Guess who was written up? My other write up had just expired. I had a miscarried and was written up for calling out that day. Jeez. I'll never be able to transfer if I stay here so I'm looking elsewhere. And they wonder why they have THE highest turnover in the hospital and lowest unit morale.
