Hi , just came across your post. Did you ever take that PRN position in Day surgery? If so, can you shred some insight on the role? Tasks? Likes/dislikes? I'm looking to apply to a similar position. Searched and searched on this forum for threads, but couldn't find much. Thanks!

I graduated from their program a little over two yrs ago, i was already a Bachelor's degree holder, so my gen eds were waived. I was able to complete the program w/in 1 1/2yrs, no summers off. I pass the NCLEX on the first try despite the lingering "horrible" pass rate # everyone always brings up. I will tell you this much, they have changed the structure of the program significantly in the last couple of yrs and to crush the "bad passing rate" rumor, the most recent graduating class had a passing rate >90%, im sure that information will be on the BON website soon. My suggestion to you is sit down, meet with the staff, ask all of your questions directly and make your decision from that. Every school has good and bad points even those with the best NCLEX pass rates. Your best bet is to make the best decision with your own assessment, trust me, that's a skill you will need throughout your career. Do the assessing yourself. Good luck.

Sorry you had such a bad experience. I went to Laboure completed the program in 1 1/2 yrs (including summers) & passed Nclex on my 1st try & got employment at a hospital shortly after graduating. I am someone who holds a bachelors degree already, though; so that definitely made the difference in how quickly someone can finished the program. Just like someone mentioned, it's all in what and how you make of Nursing School.. and that goes with any institution. No school is perfect, this school certainly wasn't either. As far as clinical sites, Boston is saturated with nursing programs, its tough for schools to get contracts/placements for students. Experience is experience no matter the setting. Nope, not looking at the city. I know that market is tough. I've been applying to the community hospitals..Carney... Norwood .. Brockton... etc. I'm findig it hard even with those areas too. *shrug* it's discouraging.

*warning- this will probably be a long post* To all soon to be nurses- RNs & LPNs, first, I want to tell you all YOU WILL PASS your boards. I've been on this website for a while intermittently reading posts throughout nursing school and while I was studying for my boards and I promised, I'd come back and provide words of encouragement. I think just about all of us, nurses, know how if feels to be overwhelming anxious, scared and worried about the BOARDS! My first advice , and I know it will be hard to do, but is to not be afraid or scared of NCLEX. i know i know, easier said than done.... ... but I promise you, CONFIDENCE in yourself is key. You made it this far, there's no reason to doubt yourself now. Write on a piece of paper, sticky note something..Somewhere in your home that reads your first name last name and most importantly afterwards, RN/LPN; look at it everyday and SMILE... Secondly, do QUESTIONssssssss... i think this piece of advice is on over-kill on this forum, but honestly, it helps.. it helped me.. I did tons of questions. I don't think one applications is better than the other, i used quite a few resources for questions; i.e. NCBSN, Uworld, NCLEX mastery, ATI , NCLEX 4000, Saunders, Lippincott..... all of these sources are helpful. You have to keep your brain and self in as much of a "study/learning" mode as possible. Trust me!! I also used Saunders and Mary Hogan's NCLEX study guides to look up anything unfamiliar. Just dedicate as much time as possible to uninterrupted studying time.... hours vary with the type of person you are... so I can't give specific # of hours per day; I personally did about 2-3 during the week more time on the weekend......And listen.... that means, no facebook, no instragram, no twitter, no allnurses.com either:no: while in "study mode". Then once, studying is done.. RELAXXXXXXXXXXXX, go to the movies, out with friends, LIVE LIFEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!! Please.. don't stare at 4 walls 24/7 thinking about NCLEX, you will drive yourself crazy!! and lastly, I think this piece is my most important piece of advice, if you are someone who prays.... PRAY I've read a couple of posts, where some have had some, in my opinion, NOT SO NICE THINGS to say about others who have thanked God for helping them pass or who have credited the power of prayer to their success.. Well I am here to ENCOURAGE you to say a prayer or two, if you believe. Don't let a nay-sayer, discourage you from your beliefs. I found a few posts on the site that were beyond encouraging from people who said prayer helped. If interested find the St. Joseph's prayer on allnurses, it's worth it!! with all of this said..... I wish each and every single one of you all the BEST of luck on your NCLEX.. you will pass. Be sure to share your words of encouragement and help for the next line of soon-to-be's.. hope this helps someone... can't wait to read the good news when you are officially an RN or LPN. Britney, if you don't mind me asking, how much was SNHU roughly, i checked online and I'm not sure if I got the right info, but I think it might be $960 per cr. And to fullfil the requirements at SNHU you must complete at least 30 credits total?? Joy, the discount for state schools by chance do you know if that applies to any Mass state schools or just UMass & Framingham?? I have a Bachelors degree in another field, i wonder if i'd apply for such perks?? Thanks so much!

hello All, I'm coming here in hopes of getting some responses, opinions and just thoughts on Laboure College's nursing program. Or if you know of someone who recently attended Laboure and graduated. Unfortunately, all the comments on here are so old. I'm curious to know.. How is the program? academic-wise, clinical-wise and in general.. the school's atmosphere. Student/Teacher ratio etc.. Are students getting jobs post-graduation anywhere, not specifically hospitals? I know it's an ADN program.. are students continuing to the BSN program there or elsewhere?? Anything.......... I'm trying to help a friend out who has been struggling to get into a program and was finally accepted there but with reading reviews on here, seems like a lot of students don't really have anything good to say about it. They've been around for so long, 120yrs, I thought that was a good sign.. but maybe not. again.... if someone has attended/graduated or knows someone, please let me know. Thx much appreciated!!

Hi cwrn1, Thank you.. yeah, its stinks. maybe i'll try again next yr or something.. Applying to Nursing School is so draining!!! Sometimes you just can't get your hopes up too high, I guess! But as far as my status, it didn't change online. I received my letter and that's it. To be honest, I haven't logged on again to see if it's changed. No point in looking anyway. From reading some of the other posts, if you haven't heard as of yet, you have a good chance in being accepted. Good luck!!

I got my rejection letter also. I'm SUPER bummed!!!!!!!!! My background: 3.0 GPA-BS in Health Science... 3.7 -pre-req GPA I currently work in a Hospital, got two recommendation letters from my dept. Not sure of what I could've done better either! But Good luck to those who have upcoming or have had interviews. Best of luck in Nursing School. Keep us posted on your progress and the program, Not sure if i will re-apply yet.

There's another thread under the Ma Nursing programs tab too. But yes,I know someone who just finished her cohort this summer. It took her a couple of months to find a job, but she eventually did.. but it's out-of state. She said the program is super competitive and is ALOT of work. On the other thread a poster sadi she had gone on an interview at UMASS already. She had submitted her application pretty early and way before the 02/01 deadline. She said they explained to her that those who submitted on or around the deadline will received a letter of acceptance or not by the beginning of March. She will lucky hear back by next week I think. Thanks for the update.. from reading some of the older threads, seems like if you were called in for an interview, you have a pretty good chance at being accepted. i guess I'll be one of those waiting til March.. I put my app in early, but only by a couple of days or so. Good luck!!!
