Foreign Nurses in the US: second class or not
So untrue. (I am aware this is a old post. I couldn't resist putting my 2 cents in.)

Kaplan or Hurst Review?
I did both and found them both helpful in their own way. HURST: Easy to understand concepts but not big on content. I did not use the HURST review questions. Yet, I passed the NCLEX-RN without them. KAPLAN: Great for review questions (Qbank) If I had to choose between the two, I'd go with KAPLAN. Good Luck!

Do you think Patients would confuse me for a doctor if I'm South Asian and male?
Sorry, I was not familiar with the RN-MD route. I researched it more and it appears to be possible. Still... it is odd.

Want a BSN in Philippines
Hello! I am a US Graduated RN. Just wanted to make a friendly reminder to US people thinking to go to the PI to skip the competitiveness of the USA. I have 2 examples: 1. A former US high school classmate of mine decided she would go to the PI to study her BSN. She returned to the US in hopes of passing the NCLEX-RN. Unfortunately, after 4+ years and multiple times trying to pass the exam, she became a LVN instead. 2. A US relative thought she could become a Doctor in the PI, to return here to become a RN. In short, that didn't pan out and she now works as a clerk. ***I have yet to hear of a successful US person going to the PI to study nursing and come back to the US as a RN. I am not trying to be discouraging. But when there are a lot of red flags, such as your family warning you that it is potentially useless. I would listen. https://www.ncsbn.org/1237.htm Check out this link that shows the relationship between type of education/location and passing the NCLEX-RN. The statistics do not lie.

what the heck
Just to clarify: Those "lucky guesses" people are referring to are actually critical thinking skills. What you are experiencing must be very frustrating. The best advice I was given should I have failed on my first attempt... was to start over and forget the last exam. Dwelling would be a disservice to myself. Keep your chin up! Figure out your weak areas because this will help guide you to develop your own individual review for the exam... Not everyone reviews/learns the same Nor do we answer questions the same way Find what study tools help solidify content/knowledge and what strategies best suit you... Hope this helps.

Nclex pass rate
Of course 87% pass rate at the farther cc is ideal but if location/transportation/time/finances is a factor then 75% pass rate at the closer school would be fine with me. I would just hope to put it in myself to make sure I do my part to pass the NCLEX-RN and not rest it solely on the program I attend. In this economy, I would not be too picky. Keep in mind that clinical sites for the nursing program you choose to attend will be relatively close to your school.

Do you think Patients would confuse me for a doctor if I'm South Asian and male?
I had a classmate in nursing school who was of Indian (Asia) descent who had many mannerisms to imply he was pre-med. The unnecessary long white lab coat he used during nursing skills lab/clinical and his high interest in discussing the pathology behind every disease. He even said he was interested in becoming a doctor but he was enrolled in nursing school with me? I found that rather odd. Unfortunately, he did not make it through the nursing program. I can see the potential mistake patients would have for anyone (regardless of nationality) who presents themselves in a certain way can be mistaken for a Doctor or pre-med student. I also understand that in the Indian culture... Indian male nurses are not common. A Indian doctor is most commonly seen. That's just my observation in the hospitals in California I've been to.

Any good nursing programs in Solano County?
Sounds like you are looking for a LVN Program in Solano County? http://www.bvnpt.ca.gov/ Will help in your search for accredited schools. On the website it states, "*CSI Career College Expires : * 5/19/10"? I found that rather odd. I personally know a friend who went to CSI in Vacaville, CA and regretted her decision. According to her, the school was disorganized, overly priced for the quality of education provided, and she felt she was teaching herself. She is currently a LVN but working hard to pay off her loans. I do not believe in For Profit schools of nursing. Generally, I believe they treat their educational practice as a business and do not provide quality education. I strongly recommend going to a local community college, which is cost effective and allows the option for furthering education later on.

Single mom seeking advice
From the information you provided... I would suggest staying in Maryland for a while after graduating and work. California RN jobs are hard to come by. I would think jobs in Maryland or other surrounding states would be more plentiful in available RN jobs. I think it is unwise to relocate to an unfamiliar, poor economy state, and with lack of support (family/friends). It might be advisable to find another comparable Christian church/school that you and your kids might like that is relatively close to where you currently live. I find relocating for a church/school in these existing conditions... is really unrealistic. No job = No income

Kaplan NCLEX-RN review course
I did the Kaplan Online Complete (with Qbank). I liked studying at my own pace. Kaplan was well worth it! Great investment! I got mine at a discount because of a online promotion on the Kaplan website. I passed the NCLEX-RN on my first attempt! Good luck! You can do it!

Saunders 2010
Know your weak areas? Study those first! Have trouble with a system or procedure??? Look it up! Use an additional study tool to help make things stick! Looking at pictures online helped me a great deal with A&P and repetition... Breath of knowledge is key! Know the basics of each... not every single detail. Understand that with that breath of knowledge... your critical thinking skills will help you find the right answer(s) to the question. When taking the exam: Have the confidence that even if you might not know the drug or the topic in which the exam is asking you... that YOU trust your critical thinking skills that you will find the right answer! Practice as many questions are you can before your exam date. This will get you used to answering question and keep your mind active. Look up the rationale why you got an answer incorrect and review the content connected to it. I did not read my review books 100% from cover to cover. I selected areas of weakness from practice questions that guided my studying... I passed the NCLEX-RN on my first attempt! Good luck to you! You can do it!

NCLEX Alternate format help
SAUNDERS and KAPLAN had many alternative style questions that helped me get familiar with it... Looked just like it on the actual NCLEX-RN.
