  1. My friend is a LPN in NYC & they started him at $23/hr.
  2. I agree. But you have other nurses on here practically ridiculing her for typing this post, further enforcing the abuse that goes on in this field.
  3. Yes, but they can't make that happen overnight. Think of a single mom who makes "too much" and doesn't qualify for any aid. How will she pay for college? When will she go? After work? Who is going to watch her kids while she's in school? How much is that going to cost? We are in the middle of a GREAT DEPRESSION. So no, it's NOT as easy as it seems. I think there are PLENTY of motivated people, on this board, but we need to be realistic. I know engineers and lawyers who cannot land a job. A few settled for housecleaning and bartending.
  4. Yes, true! And it just gives them an excuse to abuse nurses...who, in turn, accept the abuse.
  5. Welcome to nursing school. It only gets worse from this point on.
  6. Seriously! It doesn't bother me, but I have no idea where such foul attitudes come from. Who CARES if the OP is being sensitive or not? She didn't go SLIT her wrists because of this, she's just pointing out how it was rude and she disliked it. OP, please keep venting away! I'm "listening" .
  7. Absolutely issues. No, they don't have a voice because they don't stick together...they're too busy fighting each other instead of backing each other up.
  8. Jmeng, I'm not in denial. I agree with a lot of what your saying. Also, like MentalHealthRN..I have to agree that I love the patients and pretty much hate everything else. You're allowed to state your opinion and I encourage you to keep posting on here. What you're feeling is not uncommon in the least. However, we are on a nursing forum, so you may receive some biased replies for those who are gung-ho about this field Don't let it shake ya. :)
  9. Thank you for being intelligent. Point on. IMHO, the OP should "toughen up" if reading posts about ones dislike for their job bothers them so much that they made an entire post ranting about it. It seems like a lot of this goes on in nursing. EVERY single time someone on here voices their opinion about disliking their job, field, floor, working conditions, etc. You get some nasty ol' nurse berating them in their thread or giving them the general "Put up or shut up". It's another fine example of how classy & intelligent some nurses can be in this field.(sarcasm)
  10. People are allowed to complain or vent. What difference does it make to you whether or not they like nursing or quit? It doesn't. Time to grow up. The world is full of complaining, venting, and/or flat out negativity. It's a shame to see kudos on this post. Just another confirmation of how nursing is! "Put up or SHUT UP". Something a very intelligent and classy person would say when they read something they don't like. Nursing isn't all flowers and candy, so expect to see those kinds of posts. People are entitled to their opinion and you do not get to dictate what they do or what they can say.
  11. Haha, I had a lapse..was looking at the "juli" screen name. Forgive me
  12. Those people almost ALWAYS have NEVER even taken a single nursing class. I feel your pain. At this point, I would just take ANY job that you can get.
  13. Seriously, that's what I am about to do right now. When I was a waitress at IHOP, I was averaging $20/hr...and since I was younger, I was usually assigned to the less-than-desirable shifts aka lunch/weekdays. I'm honestly thinking of going out and applying to some places and taking on a waitress job again. Many of my friends who worked at steakhouses were making $30-45/hr serving dinners. The nicer the restaurant, the better the tips, generally. If I had to do it ALL over again, I would have gone straight into a city or state job. Whether it be a boring desk job or whatever. I don't knock people for finishing college. But for the 4 years that most everyone puts in, there seem to be very little in rewards. I guess it depends on what you go for and how your market yourself. The one thing that IS guaranteed is student tuition debt. I'm currently in the midst of deciding whether I even want to finish my BSN. All of my BSN friends aren't having anymore luck than I am in this field. If I really had to do it all over, I would have gone for a Biology or Microbiology degree and then applied to a PA, MD, or PharmD program. Second choice would have been to major in Math and become an Actuary. I'm sorry to say, but so far, I totally regret basing my life around this field. I waited to get into the field as I needed to save up and have my support system going. It seems like a lot of wasted time, right now. At least I'm not in denial over it anymore. Sadly, this field is going down the drain. I'm just trying to make the best of it for now..and then, making a quick escape.
  14. I don't understand what that's supposed to mean. Why wouldn't she be? Juli--sounds typical. I have seen this as well.
