Why Am I Putting Myself Through This????
I am about to enter clinicals like you. Don't worry. There are all types out there. Just be thankful for the good ones, know that you don't ever want to be like the bad ones. The more our "chops" get busted the better it'll make us anyway! Good luck!

SRNA with a problem, need some help fast!
I have a feeling i may be familiar with your situation and even the school you are at. All the #'s are adding up. First of all in response to one of the posters, no one "gets flunked"....they flunk. (I do realize that there are exceptions to this and those should fully be played out in an appeal and any sort of prejudice should come out) As far as the people who failed out in the fall/spring...all struggled or had personal issues, big life events, etc. (and most had at least 1 C in the fall semester) One of the people who is being allowed to come back had significant family issues go wrong and i think that person will be fine if those issues are resolved. The 3 people who failed the summer all (except one maybe) and that's a big maybe...struggled every semester and were always worried about whether they were going to get a B or C. I know all 3 of these people so this is not second hand information. CRNA school is about total commitment and sacrifice. If you are not "all in", you are setting yourself up or failure. I don't want to mention too many details as to reveal the program (which in the opinion of most of the passing students) is quite excellent. Back to the sacrifice and commitment....you can't bring up things about bad questions if everyone else (but 3) passed. I know for a fact (because i am in the class) that the instructor was very FAIR in throwing out bad questions. Even sometimes to my dismay because i usually got those right. (Go figure) Also, you can't bring up things like commute times, class attendance policies (which are mandated by the federal government if you are borrowing federal funds), or i had to work one day a week to pay my bills. It's not always the right time to go back to school. We are all older, have kids, commitments, mortgages, etc. If you truly had some kind of crazy issue which does happen then the administration will understand. They have in the past. Does this mean that they should allow you to pass if you didn't know the material well enough? No, but i do think they would allow you to repeat. Yea i know it's a lot of money and it totally sucks, but this is life and sometimes crazy things happen that we have no control over it and sometimes we lose a butt-load of money because of it. Bottom line...other programs will probably accept you depending on your circumstances. Remember this...they will call your director/asst. director because a lot of those people know eachother. So, while you are in the process of appealing, don't be rude, ugly, or burn any bridges. I have been quite disappointed about the way some people are handling things. I think everyone who fails wants to find as many places as possible to place the blame besides looking in the mirror first. I know the original poster did not mention the school, but i just want everyone to realize that people that post on here aren't always telling the whole story. I am sorry for the rant but, I have just seen several posts sort of like this one and it always raises my suspicions. Now i know to trust my doubt. If I totally mis-posted here and am thinking of the wrong state and wrong school please forgive, but this sounded all too familiar.:angryfire

after the loan disbursement
I just took what i didn't need and did a 6month CD. After 6 months i needed a bit of it so i took that out, then renewed the CD. Better to earn a little interest than to just let it sit there. Plus if you see that big amount in your bank account you won't realize sometimes that you are spending too much.

to study group or not..
I have always been pretty independent as well, however with this material you will come to see that sometimes you need to discuss it with someone. So, this is how i have done it. I have a good friend in my class and we study seperate. When one of us has a question about something we make a phone call. If you are going to get together with a group i feel like you pretty much have to already know the stuff to be able to discuss it. It works well for me and my friend because i think we would both be too distracted to study in a group. Trust me...someone always starts jabbing about something else or monopolizing a lot of time. You will learn that time is precious and you must make the most of it. I hope this helps.

Compare & Contrast Please
I am about to finish my first year of school and I 2nd that statement. The volume of material is overwhelming, but with sacrifice and hard work it is possible. When i was in nursing school i thought it was hard, but i had NO idea what difficult was. I look back on it and laugh now. I always say to my husband "If i had worked this hard in nursing school I would have had a 4.0". Just sit down, hold on and get ready for a crazy ride! It will all be worth it in the end for a very satisfying career.

Is Med surg experience accepted for CRNA?
I must say i am with you on this one Brian. I do think sometimes people can come on a little strong on here, but sometimes it is deserved. Hey Brian, how do things look for CRNA's up there? I am thinking of moving that way after graduation. I am actually going to be there vacationing in August after school breaks. Any info would be appreciated! TX

Admission GPA
3.0 GPA is your overall GPA that is on your transcript from your college. After this they will usually take your nursing and science courses and would like to see that at atleast a 3.0 if not better in those courses. Hope it helps.

+/- Demand For CRNA's....
More than demand for anesthesia provider statistics, i'd look at the ages of our population and the fact that the baby boomers are getting older, sicker, etc and there is a very large number of them. The need for anesthesia providers will be increasing for quite some time. Not only is the baby boomer generation going to assure us of this, but look at the obesity rate in our country. With obesity come tons of complications and risk factors for other diseases/problems. I think about it this way if people are weighing more, more sickley, getting older, etc = more jobs for a long time to come. I hope that this helps somewhat.

school attire...
It's just like school days again! Wear whatever you want. You'll be in class a bunch so make sure you're comfy for all day!

SRNAs-- loan consolidation?
I did the wells fargo way early all you have to do is get a fax from the school or something with their letterhead on it that says you will be enrolled full time, etc. If you have been accepted your school should be able to give you this without a problem. If not...i don't know what's up with the school!

CRNAs in Austin Texas
I lived in Austin before attending school and what i saw was pretty MDA dominated. The cost of living is UNREAL. I'd like to go back, but refuse to pay that much property tax, etc. Capitol is the one group and a friend of mines boyfriend just graduated and works for them and seems to like it just fine. What i saw was at a private hospital and i don't remember the ratio, but the CRNA's got paid pretty good and i believe didn't have to do call, etc. Always MDA in house. Pretty good gig but not too terribly autonomous. I think MDA just present for induction and any lines to be put in. That was my experience. Good luck finding something. I think the outlying areas of Austin may be a better choice to find a job. Bastrop and areas like that. Good luck

reference letters
It would be nice however most schools want references completed on a form from the school. Just be organized and have everything ready for the people writing your references (prepaid envelopes, already addressed, etc) and they will not mind filling them all out for you at all.

Program ranking?
From what i hear (from someone who was involved with the ranking process in the past), it is pretty much a political thing and a popularity contest. I hear it's not even based on facilities, instructors, or pass rates. Is there anyone who can have any input on whether this is true or not?

drug testing...
I am in CRNA school now and it is random testing here. We were tested on the first day of school actually.
